I like that the show also covers a topic like pollution because it is an important topic. As I mentioned before in a previous blog called "Poverty & Hunger", in the episode "The Painted Lady" we see a village populated by poor, sick and starving people. They were sick because the nearby Fire Nation factory polluted the river.

This episode gives a really good explanation on what pollution is, how it arises and what its effects are. We see how the factory drains its chemical waste into the river, causing pollution. We see how sick all those people get because of the dirty water and how much it affects their everyday lifes.

Pollution is a problem that affects us in our everyday lifes as well. It affects our health for example. Pollution of the air, water or the soil can lead to headaches, fatigues, respiratory or cardiovascular illnesses, skin irritation or a higher risk of cancer just to name a few effects.

We can see some of these effects in the fisher village. The pollution of the water affected their health immensely. A lot of people were sick and tired. They had to lay down and rest. We also saw a young boy with a skin irritation.

Rewatching that episode always makes me sad because by now we have learned from Aang that every life is precious and that nature needs to be treated with respect. Seeing how the Fire Nation just doesn't care about pollution really makes me sad every time.
