Welcome to the May edition of The Craft Corner! Crafty Amino's only newsletter written for the crafters, by the crafters.

Thanks for all your love and on last month's newsletter! Our team had a lot of fun putting it together and we were quite pleased with the result. The newsletter is constantly evolving, and we will be introducing new features every now and then, and even bringing some old ones back (keep reading!). We're always busy brainstorming how to make it new and exciting for you all each month!

:grey_question: Yukine :cherry_blossom: the :cherry_blossom: Dinosaur Hallo! Does anyone have any idea how to get glitter (specifically holographic glitter) to show up when added to clay? It seems to dull once added to translucent clay 🤔

:white_check_mark: Crafty Cupcake Hello! Well that's really weird since lot of people use it on any clay and it works.. :open_mouth: so maybe adding more glitter would help? Or not mixing it then just putting something on the clay (like an adhesive) so the glitter will stick on your clay before baking :blush:

You should try adding lots of glitter and also glazing your charm makes the glitter in the clay more bright and shiny!

Hi! I was wondering if I buy hearty clay (air dry clay) for how long approximately would it stay "fresh" (wouldn't dry)?

:white_check_mark: Crafty CupcakeWell few minutes I believe! I work with air dry clay as well so to completely dry, 24h, but it starts​ drying after just few minutes. :blush:

It requires a lot of patience and time to do this project! But it's worth it once you see the final result.

It's time again for Crafter of The Month! :tada: This month we have an extremely talented individual who specializes in making amazing Mickey Ears with floral wire! So without further ado, let us introduce you to:

JC Mickey Ears (Jennica)

Q:Tell us your name and where you're from.

A:Hey my crafty friends, it's Jennica, and I live in the lovely state of California.

Q:When did you start​ crafting and how did you learn?

A:I started crafting when I was in Pre-school. The different art styles and techniques really inspired me to learn more and make more while growing up. Since most of my crafts on Crafty Amino are Mickey Ears, I started making them on November 11, 2016. I was self-taught and I am still continuing to learn new techniques (with wire designs) every time I make Mickey Ears.

Q:What made you want to continue crafting once you started?

A:The final product and the that I get from others makes me want to continue crafting. Making crafts for people always makes me happy, even if I spend countless hours on them.

Q:What was your first craft medium?

A:I can't my first craft medium, but ever since I was a little kid, I was exposed to many of them (Ex: origami, hand sewing, friendship bracelets, bookmarks, crocheting, scrapbooking, etc.).

Q:What other crafts have you tried?

A:Besides being known for making Mickey Ears here, over the many years that I have been crafting, I have made small, easy crafts for my family and friends to enjoy. I recently became interested into cosplaying, about two years ago. My first closet cosplay was Batman, and my "official" (sort of) cosplay was Zatanna. I always tell myself that there are two sides to me, DC Comics and Disney :joy:

Q:What is the most difficult thing about working with wire?

A:The most difficult thing about working with wire is getting the right shape of the character that I am trying to make. The proportions and sizes have to be very precise, otherwise the character would look unidentifiable and/or it wouldn't fit accordingly with the ear.

Q:How would you describe your style?

A:I would describe my Mickey Ears style as either cute or elegant, but they definitely scream "Spring!" I also get a garden and a watercolor vibe from them!

Q: Are there any designers/YouTubers that youparticularly look up to?

A:I look up to both Amber Arden and Michelle (Shel) on Instagram. They are both truly talented cosplayers and artists, and I was really lucky to meet and take a picture with Amber, at WonderCon '17.

Q:Where do you look for inspiration?

A:I look on Google, Instagram, or Pinterest for inspirations. Especially when I need more ideas to sprout in my head for the next ears that I am going to make.

Q:When do you feel the most creative

A:I feel creative when I have someone or something motivating me to keep going. Usually I am busy with school, which sadly keeps me away from crafting.

Q:How do you combat craft blocks?

A:Usually when I don't have the motivation to work on a craft, I don't force myself to do it. The craft will turn out bad, since I would want to rush through that craft. :sweat_smile:

If I have a goal in mind, then I will want to reach that goal as efficiently as I can.

Q:What are your can't-live-without craft room essentials?

A:I can't live without hot glue, scissors or pliers, especially when making Mickey Ears. It is possible to make Mickey Ears without those essentials, but then the Mickey Ears would turn out bad :sweat_smile:

Q:What are some of your hobbies/things that you like to do outside of crafting?

A:Outside of crafting, I enjoy drawing, taking photos on my phone (phonetography), watching and/or reading any of DC Comics' work, spending time with my family, and listening to music.

Q:What is your favourite thing you've made?

A:Out of all of the Mickey Ears that I have made so far (51 Ears in counting), my favorite one (at the moment) would have to be my most recent Rapunzel Ears.

Q:What is one craft you'd never try again?

A:I haven't tried all types of crafts yet, in order to determine which craft that I would never try again... but my least favorite would have to be anything with glitter. It's ironic because for some of the Mickey Ears that I have made, some of the flowers have glitter on it :joy:

Q:Do you have any message for our readers?

A:"Spread happiness throughout this world."

Just a recap on what this new segment is about: I will introduce the Crafty trends that are going around each month.

The last Month in Craft trend was holo or holographic! These monthly trends are to let you know what is popular that you may not have known before. It can give you some inspiration for your future crafts :wink:

Let's get on with May's month in crafts. It also happen to coincidentally go with our newsletter theme.

Who wouldn't love the beauty of flowers? The colors and smell are so simple and lovely, it just brightens your day. Here is a different way to stay in touch with nature!

Designer Gahee Kang has created these DIY rings inspired by the Japanese art of flower arrangements called Ikebana. The rings are called Ikebana Rings and are a sterling accessory that holds blooms that were picked and arranged by yourself! Unlike other jewelry, this can be customized and changed daily just by the season or your outfit. You have an adjustable band where you can thread your flowers of choice through the loops.

Look around, as you may see there are many colors surrounding you! They all have their own meanings, too! Maybe they can even say a little about you!

Pink is a very pretty color! It has to be my favorite for sure and I bet you know someone whose favorite color is pink! Want to know what pink can say about you?

  If you like pink, particularly pastel pink it can mean you are very positive and have a great imagination! You are a big romantic, loving everything around you! You try your hardest to be sweet and kind and when you don't succeed you try again!

Yellow is a color that is common to see but usually isn't a favorite of most, but if it happens to be one of your favorites it can say quite a bit about you and your personality!

You are a very cheerful person who finds the brightness in people, you like taking the easy way of life and never really want to fight. You love children and particularly babies. You find ways to comfort others and soothe yourself with your peaceful mind!

When I think of a light green I think of mints you get when you go to a restaurant for some reason. :sweat_smile: But that's besides the point, if you like the color light green it shows a lot about you as a person!

You like trying to stay natural in regard to what you eat and your impact on the earth. You always find a way to put a positive spin on negative situations! You tend to be more of a quiet person or just enjoy peace and quiet now and then!

Blue can be a very diverse color! From different shades like aqua, turquoise, navy, etc. blue can be very unique! It also says a lot about you!

You like to take a positive outlook on life. You are very faithful and never quit. You follow your dreams and make goals. You have a very impressive appearance and everyone wants to get to know you!

Purple is a very pretty color. When I was little I would love to mix reds and blues to make different shades of purple—little did I know those purples actually had meaning behind them!

You are a very positive person. You aren't very outgoing and you try to stay close to your comfort zone. You are very sentimental when it comes to family and objects you have feelings for. You are very protective and will speak your mind.

This month we will be talking ing flowers, both artificial "silk" flowers and flowers that you create to add to your projects of any medium. Flowers are good for Mother's Day, spring, or any time of year.

:cherry_blossom: Hello everyone! We are happy to announce that we have brought the scavenger hunt back for this newsletter edition!

:cherry_blossom: This is a test to expose your inner detectives. Would you be able to spot the hidden images within to solve the final scrambled quote? If you believe, feel free to try out our mystic hunt!

:star2: Rules and Instructions :star2:

:cherry_blossom: This scavenger hunt will have nine clues including the one below, and will be in numeric order.

:cherry_blossom: The tenth and last image will lead to the scrambled image of a floral quote you will have to solve and message Here :point_left: 🏻

:cherry_blossom: The message will have to contain ALL 10 images with the links or screenshots. It will also include the scrambled quote and the answer written out correctly.

:cherry_blossom: Each clue will be the image plus another image that will lead to the next name and the next clue. You can search the name in the search section but, make sure you click on the "" tab. If you don't know how to search up names, click :point_right: 🏻 Here :point_left: 🏻 for more information!

:cherry_blossom: For the next clue in each profile, it can be ANYWHERE, so search well!

:cherry_blossom: There maybe more than one name that is similar to what you are looking for. Spacing of the names do matter; try the name without spaces first, and start with the name closest to what you solved first!

:star2: Hints :star2:

:cherry_blossom: You will get three hints per PERSON, so use them wisely. Hints can be given out if you state the number of the clue you are stuck on and message The Craft Corner directly! Please DO NOT ask any of the newsletter chats for hints—only a private message.

:cherry_blossom: You can let us know about the clue you need help with and the numbers will be located on the top left corner of the images. The hints will help you find the profile that the clue is on, not where the clue image is hidden.

:star2: Prizes :star2:

:cherry_blossom: And of course the prize will be a collab with a leader or a curator! The first person to give us the correct answers and crack the scrambled quote will get the collab.

:cherry_blossom: They will also be allowed to choose the theme for the collab and the collab will be featured! If the first place winner doesn't respond in time, the rest of you have 48 hours after we have a winner to message us the right answer.

:cherry_blossom: This is important because even if you don't get a collab with a leader or a curator, you still get added to the top 3 leaderboard that will be featured in the next newsletter. Good luck everyone!
