So first of all some colours are common to certain breeds, for example:

Haflingers are almost always flaxen chestnut, and friesians are almost always black.

Where as other breeds like the Thoroughbred or Arabian I have basically every colour of coat you can find.

Some breeds have to only have specific markings, such as Dartmoors shouldn't have excessive white markings.

Tricky Looking Colours

Did you know that there is no such thing as a white horse?

Yes, coat colours can be quite confusing sometimes!

There is no such thing as a white horse, they are all classified as grey, even Lippizanners! Lippizanners are born bay or black and turn grey as they mature. The same thing goes for most light grey horses.

Also, there is a type of paint horse called the solid paint horse. This type of horse has to ed Paint Horse parents, but has none of the features of the classic Paint Horse! It is a solid colour horse usually Bay or chestnut, although other colours can appear as well

Actually alot of this is incorrect sorry

(Equine geneticist here)

1. White horses do exist, they are basically a giant white spot to put it simply.

2. Paint is a breed NOT a colour.

3. Bays have black points and ALWAYS have black ear tips. The brown colour you see is just fading, its still black.

4. Pinto is the other way around, they have coloured coats with white patches.

5. Grey isnt a mix of black and white hairs, its a pigment disease which over produces pigment until it burns out causing the horse to grey.

6. Whats described as red roan in the photo is actually bay roan, whats described as strawberry roan (which isn't actually a real colour its a shade term) is red roan.

7. Grulla IS dun. A grulla is a black dun( black + dun) and they always have a dorsal AND face mask.

8. Chocolate palomino isnt a real thing. They dont have a bay body as palomino is red + cream. They are visually darker because they are affected by sooty. Genetically they are exactly the same.

9. Brindle isn't a colour as actual brindle isnt found in horses. "Brindle" aka br1 is a texture pattern which gives it that look but it is not in any way whatsoever a colour.

Overall great job! And great visual description, just a few common misconceptions. :)
