I'm sure y'all seen the show Arrow right?

Yes that DC show Arrow. I think y'all can agree that the show is pretty badass. U got this dude Oliver Queen, who people thought was dead, blasting mfs left right and center with just a Bow and Arrow. His girl is Black Canary, who i used to main in Injustice 2 til Sonicfox dropped her (I'm not a tierwhore i swear). So i think y'all can agree with me that Green Arrow, has big d*ck energy.

So you'd think Fire Emblem's archer class would also carry the same amount of big d*ck energy right? Hehe...

NO, much to the dismay of many, FE archers do NOT have big d*ck energy! They have the OPPOSITE of big d*ck energy! INSTEAD, they take big d*cks, RIGHT UP THE A-

Out of all the classes that have ever been created in FE, none have been done more dirty than the Archer class. For some reason, IS seems to have some kind of personal vendetta against these units. Did 3-13 archer sleep with Shouzou Kaga's wife? I mean...possibly. Who wouldn't wanna sleep with 3-13 archer? THAT'S 3-13 ARCHER! Nobody kills Laguz quite like him- but we're getting off track.

today we're gonna go through the almost complete history of FE archers, to hopefully see if archers are really as bad as people say they are. Ofc I'm not gonna through every single archer in the series, or we'd be here for 1000 years, I'm definitely gonna skim through some things so viewer discretion advised.

so with that being said, to go through the history of archers, we need to take a ride back to the past...Samurai Jack-

The year is 1990.

Back to the Future 3 just came out, and meanwhile ur at ur crib bumping that new Vogue by Madonna. u went up to ur mom one day and asked her:

"ファイナルファンタジー3を入手できますか?"

("Can I get Final Fantasy 3?")

But then ur mom hits you with that

"ファイナルファンタジー3が自宅にあります。"

("We have Final Fantasy 3 at home.")

And ファイナルファンタジー3 at home ends up being a piece of sh*t box cover, known as ファイアーエムブレムシャドウドラゴンと光の刃

But u say to urself それをファック, and booted up the game on ur old ass dusty ass famicom system, and u are greeted with a long ass opening title screen, because u didn't know that u can just press start to skip the whole thing (f*cking idiot :moyai: ).

Once u enter the 1st map, u can control 6 blue men and a flying horse. One of those blue men is an Archer that goes by the name Gordin; who looks like if Tinker Bell had a one-night-stand with Oscar the Grouch

Gordin was significant because he was ofc the first ever archer in the series, and spawned an archetype of his own...it also spelled the realisation that Archers were doomed from the start,

because Gordin was ass.

As u can see, terrible bases, poor spd, he had it all, and was pretty much the blueprint of how crappy starter archers were gonna be like in the future. I mean sure, u do get Kashim/Castor in the next chapter who s as a hunter, which is way better than Gordin...

hey wait a minute.

u telling me Hunters can't promote in this game?!

BUT MAAAARRS!!

But the saving grace is Wolf and Setger, who as bow cavs in ch 5, which is a sigh of relief...but lets be real, u probably reclass them into generals in the ds remake anyways, so what's even the point anymore smh...

but hey….

Over in gaiden, sh*t starts getting mad gimmicky now with the 2 routes sh*t whatever- u get like 2 archers throughout the game. And just like gaidens gameplay itself, their completely dogsh*t, 999% percent of the time. Combine that with gaidens hit-rate being more doo doo than doo doo itself, and the exp distribution as generous as a concentration camp, u get two 3-ranged archer that miss,

every

single

time

And YEAH. IK. Echoes exists. But tbf, everyone got a buff in that game. But even then, both archers were kinda meh. The only reason Echoes archers were alright can be summed up with:

Ight so wat had happen was Gordins mama told him before he went out to war for like the 2nd time:

”Gordin you better take your little brother with you!”

”BUT MOOOOOOOM he’s a little BIIIIIITCH!”

”IDC YOU BETTER TAKE HIM OR IM GONNA GET MY BELT!"

...so thats how ryan came to be :)

At least in New Mystery, they do give u some explanation as to how he u in Ch 1, but in the super famicom version, he just kinda appears...w/o explanation. like 1 sec ur starting up the game, and boom...4 speed. But don’t be fooled, he actually has better growths than gordin; most notably his skill. But despite that, hes just kind of a mini gordin...meaning hes a bit g a r b a g e.

But tbf, alongside Warren (who s in the next CH) these archers are useful for the next couple CH cuz they both have flying enemies , so u do have chances to give them kills and grind them a bit. But mostly likely ur just not gonna be bothered with doing all that bullsh*t, given that their bases are pretty bin worthy.

So now we go on the highway to Judgral, 88 MPH, with the game Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the HOLY SH*T, Archers are actually good in this game! In the prologue, after u seize the first castle, Midir (the inventor of the word simp) s as an bow knight, with 8 move, and he’s f*cking great. Jamke, who is an archer, s in the next ch during the worst map sequence I've ever tooken a part in, but he s with a high attack base, so he's ready to kick ass and chew bubble gum....his dad dies.

Wait i think I'm forgetting somethi- OH RIGHT

Including the child bow s, i think its safe to say, Archers got it good in this game :ok_hand: .

But unfortunately, much like Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, it all goes downhill again.

So Thracia 776 returned back to the status quo….the status quo being that archers will forever be sh*t for as long as Mangs stays bald. But for some reason the devs decided to get a little um….

So first off, Tanya. We know who tanya is, first archer u get, low bases, no skills, u know how it goes..

but then we get to Ronan, and he is a WHOLE different story :joy: . For some reason…IS thought it'd be a rAdiCal idea...to give him 15% in strength…

and a 55% MAGIC GROWTH

Ok so i have 2 theories as to why they designed Ronan this way:

1. The guy was originally supposed to be a mage, but then they accidentally programmed him as an Archer, and due to time constraints, they left him like that. There's a bit of evidence to suggest this, being that at times, Thracia is a bit of an broken game;

- Black Fog

- Green units that attack you

- Whatever FUCC means

2. Maybe they intended him to be one of them magic resistance archers or some sh*t. Given that magic works differently in Thracia, ig it would make sense that they would intentionally make him this way.

But it doesnt matter what the explanation is, at the end of the day, ronan is crap either way. If u have an ar- oh wait my bad, um..

Who doesn't even do the job that the bowfighter was meant to do-and that is to be a bowfighter, then wth is even the point? 🤣

Later in the game, u get the equivalent of Setger and Wolf, in the form of Selphina and Robert. But lemme ask YOU reading at home something; guess which one of em is more worth it?

Ok, so im gonna class these all in the same category, because lets be honest...they're pretty much the same game.

contrary to popular belief, Archers are actually better in these games, because of the fact that most of the enemies u encounter are flying units, meaning archers at least have more of a use. But lets look at the 3 starting archers from each game, Wolt, Wil, and Neimi (and ig Rebecca). I would consider these guys to be like the Pillar Men of GBA archers...if the Pillar Men consisted of the 3 Stooges.

and Neimi wore those pants.

Ig To put it simply, let's just say u ain't gonna see them in endgame that's for sure...unless u like bare ankles.

I know I'm skipping over alot of units, but to summarize, GBA archers arent really anything to write home about. Yeah u get guys like Rath, and u get Lyn trying to pretend to be an archer, but really their kinda mediocre at best. Ig the silver lining to all that is, hey…

Yeah they have crap bases, yeah they have mostly mediocre growth rates, but that doesn’t mean they’re unusable. Earlier i said Tanya was a piece of sh*t unit in Thracia...

I mean, If i had the choice between.

a pre promoted archer with great bases, S rank in bows fresh off the gate

or

A pink sack of sh*t with sh*t bases, cries all the time, with weird looking pants

Ig one of the fascinating things about Fire Emblem, is the feeling, the satisfaction u get from making a widely regarded trailer park trash unit into a world beater. So that u can go to ur friends house and be like, “Yeah bitch, i gave Norne the Parthia, what have u done wit ur life :sunglasses: ”, and then ur friend goes all like:

”Dude, stop breaking into my house, you’re scaring my kids!”

You may have heard the saying “theres no such thing as a bad unit” in FE before, and there’s a reason everyone says it, because its mostly true. The FE developers designed every unit with one intention only...and that is to be usable, Archers included. It really just depends with how much u are invested in a character. The games give u chances to make a bottom tier really powerful, whether that be stat boosters, arenas, or grind maps, there is ways u can make a unit as powerful as a high tier unit, if noy more. It also all depends with how the player wants to play the game. One thing to know about the Fire Emblem series is that there isn't really a right way to play the game. Each players experience with the games differ from the last, depending on their style of play or, what units they wanna use. Maybe ur wanna do a solo run, or u wanna do an LTC run, or maybe u wanna see if u can get a 5 star unit out of Ronan and see where that takes u. Ur experience will change depending on what ur main focus is, and who u wanna invest in. And maybe those were the devs intentions, to have the player create their own unique story.

You can give the Nidhogg to Neimi, and have her kill the Demon King herself, because thats how you want to end the game...and that's how I completed FE 8 :joy: . again...there really isn't necessarily a "bad" unit, in reality everyones on equal footing. It all goes down to wat ur personal preference. That idea definitely applies to FEH, and to an extent 3 houses. Everyone plays differently, and in the case of FEH, everyone can whoop ur ass differently.

the point is that yeah, archer are kinda sh*t on the surface, but that doesnt mean u cant make them OP. If u really like archers, go ahead and make them great, the sky is the limit really. But that begs the question, are archers really sh*t? Yes but actually no. I used to think Archers were completely sh*t, and judging from their bases, they kinda are. But after killing Thracia 776's final boss with Tanya, i realize that units are kinda subjective if u think about it. Everyone thinks Seth is amazing, but personally i think he's overated. it kinda just depends on the player really :joy: . Kinda like how everyone hates Mila's new artwork, but i personally love it. Everyone has their own views in life, and that applieds to fire emblem as well.
