Lines

The Line is an element of design that can induce emotions and feelings. It can also give directions in places, highlight shape and pattern or provide a border and visual illusion.

There are six categories of a Line and each depicts different functions:

i. Horizontal Line

- can stretch out the visual aspect of the room lengthwise as it makes short walls look longer

ii. Vertical Line

-can give the feeling of growth and stability visually

*If walls are high, it is recommended to avoid vertical striped wallpaper or decorations.

iii. Diagonal Line

- can give out a visual illusion of the room being unstable or appear to be falling over.

- can also create a feeling of transition, excitement, or movement

iv. Wavy Lines

-are unstable lines that give out feeling of giddiness or sensation of whirling

*It is recommended to  avoid visually distracting decoration in places that require concentration such  as office, school or study room.

v. Directional lines

- are  used to direct attention to something or lead the subjects through a building

vi. Combined line movements

- are pattern grids or combined lines and colour to  achieve visually stimulating effects.
