In the 1968 film Night of the Living Dead, siblings Barbra and Johnny visit their father’s grave in rural Pennsylvania when they are attacked by a zombie. Johnny is killed, and Barbra escapes to a nearby farmhouse, where she meets Ben, a drifter who helps her barricade the house against a growing horde of flesh-eating ghouls.
Inside the farmhouse, they discover five other survivors hiding in the basement: Harry, Helen, and their daughter Karen Cooper, along with a young couple, Tom and Judy. Tensions rise as they struggle for control and survival while dealing with the relentless attacks from outside. The situation escalates into chaos as the group faces internal conflicts and external threats.
As night falls, tragedy strikes when several of the group are killed or turned into zombies. In a grim twist, Ben survives the night but is mistakenly shot by a rescue posse in the morning, highlighting the film’s themes of isolation and societal breakdown.
