Tonight I had the exciting pleasure of watching Gerald Kargl's 1983 horror film Angst. I was aching for a horror movie that was actually scary, and also one with lots of blood and a healthy amount of violence, and Angst had just that.

The main character has no name, in fact none of the characters do in Angst, and he is only referred to as "the psychopath". He's played by Erwin Leder, best known for his role as Johann in the 1981 film by Wolfgang Petersen, Das Boot. He's unbelievably talented, he plays his character with such vigor and ion that for moments in this movie I wondered if the character was partially based off Leder himself. No

The aesthetic is very, very gritty. The whole film is washed in sickly, muted green and blue tones, which actually makes the film feel more realistic, especially in areas like the petrol station or just down simple roads, I love the authenticity it gives the film, and it makes it scarier. It reminds you that anyone you walk by in the street could be a deranged killer.

Zbigniew Rybczyński did the cinematography for this film, and my god it's incredible. Rybczyński used a dizzying 360 body rig for certain shots, and the effect is extremely impressive. It makes the scenes even more tense and definitely had me sweating at parts.

Overall, Angst was an extremely entertaining and exciting experience in my opinion. I'm so happy I managed to find it online, and it's definitely a new favourite of mine. For anyone wishing to watch this, I found it on Effedupmovies.com !
