🧨⌇gank your heart៹

It’s not a secret to anyone

that has ever had a conv-

ersation with me that I

dislike modern Chinese

dramas because they’re too

ridiculous for me and the

acting, in general, is

TERRIBLE. Although I don’t

ignore them completely

because I know that not all

the dramas are like that, and

that refusing to watch them

because I didn’t enjoy a few

will prevent me from finding

the gems, I do try to avoid

them. However, every once

in a while I’m in the mood to

torture myself with one of

those dramas, and after

watching a clip of Wang Yi

Bo being illegal, I decided

that it was time to “suffer”.

This drama surprised me not

only because it isn’t ridiculous,

but it also isn’t boring. The

characters are likable and the

plot is not draggy, it even

managed to get my attention

about the e-sports thing, I

never understood what was

going on because I’m not

familiar with those games, but

I was interested anyway. The

romance is really cute and fluffy,

the characters had great chemistry.

I can count on the fingers of one

hand the number of crime dramas

I have watched. I’m not a big fan

of this genre because I find it

extremely predictable, after a few

episodes I already know what’s

going to happen and I feel like

there’s no point in continuing

watching if the “mystery” is solved.

I decided to watch this drama

because two of my favorite actors,

Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won,

were the main leads. I have to

it that this drama got

predictable after six episodes and

it took me a year and a half to

finish it (after episode 8, I watched

an episode per month), but I

enjoyed it a lot. You won’t find

layered characters or a complex

plot, but the drama is well written

and it has a good pace, it’s

not boring.

Although I can't say that I wasn't

going to like anything about this

drama (it's a historical and that

already makes me like it a little

bit), I wasn't sure if I was going

to enjoy it because it’s about

zombies, and I think zombies

are the stupidest thing ever.

Despite the expectations and

comments about this drama, I

didn’t expect much. However, I

was pleasantly surprised, it took

only one episode to get my

attention. Unexpectedly, the

zombies were one of the things

that I liked the most, it was well

justified and logical, and that

added more suspense to the

story. I can't wait to watch the

next season, this is undoubtedly

one of the best dramas of 2019.

Zombies and Korean historicals

are two things I strongly dislike

and try to avoid as much as

possible. However, since the

team I was in was watching it

for our blog, I felt compelled to

do so as well (and didn't think I

would lose anything since the ep

count is negligible). And boy was I

in for a shock. The writing,

direction, and acting were all so

good that I had zero time to stop

and hate on the zombies or the

historical aspect. I was not bored

for a single second. I'm still not

into zombies or korean historicals,

but this drama is a winner and I

have no regrets about watching it.

I know I act like I'm gonna go

extinct if I don't include TU

everywhere and here it is yet

again. This is one of my favorite

dramas of all time but it belongs

to a genre that I really don't care

for. But I am so glad that I took a

chance and watched this because

the story and characters impacted

me in such an unforgettable way.

The writing was great and a lot of

details and moments in here

meant a lot to me personally, and

specifically at this point in my life.

There are very few things in life,

and even fewer dramas specifically,

that I cherish this much and hold

in such regard. I doubt that most

people will have a life-changing

personal experience over this, as

those are rare even in general,

but I can say there's no harm in

watching it (if you're genuinely

interested ofc). I am still shook

that I love TU the way I do but

I am truly at peace with it.

When people complain about

anything less than 100 eps I

find it quite funny because this

drama, like many family dramas,

has 100+ eps (123 to be exact).

(disclaimer I know not everyone

has time in their life, etc so I'm

not judging) Where I live,

kdramas air on tv with subtitles,

so in middle school I used to

catch a few eps of wtv dailies

were airing at the time so I had

exposure to long dramas; but I

never truly got into dramas til

way later and I started with the

16 ep ones when I did since

they seemed easier to watch.

Then I saw a compilation of

Krystal saying "stupid" and ofc

I had to watch HK3 cos of that,

but the family genre at this point

was not smth I was interested in

anymore (or so I thought) and

the ep count looked intimidating.

BUT once I started watching I

couldnt stop. It was really light

and funny, tho silly at times. I

got really invested in the

characters and so the episodes

just FLEW by. So now (even tho I

still get surprised by ep count

from time to time) I know that it's

not a big deal for me to watch a

longer drama as long as I find

the drama to be interesting. And

family dramas are nothing to be

afraid of either, they might not

seem appealing at first glance

but some of them are iconic.

Finally someone wrote about Gank Your Heart. It's way too underrated imo. I mean it has a decent plot, lovable characters and antagonists with understandable motivation. Hard to find modern Chinese dramas like that.
