Chicago Typewriter has been considered as a masterpiece, by most of the fans and I was always intrigued to watch it. So when Netflix mentioned that they are removing the drama soon, I had to give it top priority. The drama has been tagged as supernatural, rom-com, reincarnation, but the genre which intrigued me the most is MYSTERY.

What is mystery?

It is a situation which is not understandable at first glimpse, that has no logical explanation or is unexplainable.

Since the beginning of the drama the writers were successfully able to capture the audiences attention with the mystery elements, and suspenseful glimpses of the character's past life. So here I'll be talking about how CT covered almost all the mystery elements throughout the drama.

Who was calling for help within the typewriter and asking people to take him to Se-joo?

The Typewriter looked such amazing with its antique vibe, I could understand why Se-joo wanted to take it home so bad, the moment he saw it. The object had a strong aura which makes the writer feel like they are owing a priceless object. Being the owner of the typewriter made a person feel honoured and brought in a sense pride. So since the beginning of the drama I was intrigued about the story behind it, it felt like the typewriter had a life within and it was shouting out to be saved.

Who was opening the doors everytime when Seol entered Seo-joo's house without permission?

Well it was a messy scene, although the director wanted us to understand it was Seo Joo opening the door everytime, but something in the house was telling us that it was not him. Well then the next doubt came on the stalker, but even after the stalker died strange things kept on happening. Like the earthquake in the mansion, the matchbox positioning and so on.

Both these mystery objects can be considered under the creating suspense with a sense of urgency element. For example, regarding the typewriter scene, Seo-joo discovered it in a foreign country but due to the unwillingness of the owner to sell it he left without the typewriter. But if we consider the audience's perspective, they were kept hanging about the mystery around it.

Initially the time travel happened in Seo-joo's dreams but gradually it started happening in reality, or was it the dream again? Confused right? Well I was so confused with this one, I tried to put my pieces together. What was making this happen? The typewriter? The pocket watch? The spirit? And how was the old Seol in touch with the present Seo-joo, they literally kissed each other so is it there's no ghost in there? Episode 4 left me in a perplexed mind!

This element is covered under the subvert narrative explanation, where the story shows us glimpse of the past, makes us curious about the whole story and slowly builds up the drama.

Seol and her connection to guns had been shown since the beginning of the story. But weirdly even after being diligent and practicing day and night her hand shakes when she points the gun at people. Her only explanation to this is that in her past life she might have killed someone dear, that's why she can't use one in this life. Whenever this flashback is shown I keep on guessing who is it?I thought there's only 2 options, but I was so wrong!

Through the constant flashback scenes, the crew mastered foreshadowing. They kept on giving subtle hints of the past and made the viewers anticipate the victim.

He's one of the biggest mysteries in the drama, starting from his presence in the present world to his death in his past life. But I've to say many a times I laughed coz of him. He loves playing hide-and-seek as a ghost, sometimes he's hiding in the typewriter, sometimes in the painting and sometimes even possesses the dog. Whenever he vanished and writer Han kept on searching for him, I kept on guessing his whereabouts.

Through Yu Jin-o's character, the writer introduced us to the mysterious identity element. This character created the most suspense during the initial episodes, as with every flashback a new aspect of his life unfolded.

That's all for the mystery around CT. So how was this drama for you? I was mainly amazed by how well the plot was stitched together. It had alot of scope for mes, but it didn't, amazing work by the crew.
