June Summaries

Hello KDA!

#DAOfamily!

It's the end of the month and I'm back

with my monthly summaries. Erm, I've

only watched two non-BLs this month

and since I'm back in the office, I can

only watch movies and shorter series.

I have basically ran out of BLs to watch

so I've resorted to watching lesser known

/ totally unknown BLs off of YouTube so

I'll introduce them to you today. Do note

that they are lesser known for a reason...

Rest assured that I'm sticking to

just a quick overview and my opinions.

So don't worry about any BL material

emerging out of the blue and shocking

you in any way possible. Chill, yah?

Let's get going!

Shubh Mangal Zyada

Saavdhan (BL Hindi movie)

Aman Tripathi is the gay son of a

conservative and homophobic family.

He is in love with Kartik Singh, an

energetic runaway. During his cousin,

Rajni (Goggle) Tripathi's wedding, his

father tries various ways to "purify"

his son and un-gay him. :blue_heart:

My Rating: 4/10

Aigooo. This one. It started off funny,

became slapstick, and then I did not

really know how to feel. It got enjoyable

halfway when they professed their love

at the wedding BUT with the horse and

black cauliflowers, I didn't know what

else to think about this anymore.

Does The Flower Bloom?

(Hana Wa Saku Ka) (BL Jmovie)

Kazuaki Sakurai is a 37 year old man who

works in an advertising agency. He meets

a 19-year-old art student, Yoichi Mizukawa

during a photoshoot. Sakurai is attracted

to Mizukawa but Mizukawa is only interested

in painting. Over time, the two men become

close but Sakurai gets sent to Osaka. :blue_heart:

The age gap was cringey. I got lost mid

-way, then lost agaim and then, oh, the

old man is hitting on the young guy and

then suddenly the young guy was so clingy

to the old man. Whatever... Forget it.

As If You Whisper 속삭이듯 해줘 (BL Kmovie)

Beom-soo busks as a hobby and he falls

for his fan, Hyun-woo. Hyun-woo however

has a secret musical identity. Although

producer, Hee-jin wants Beom-soo to be

a successful singer, all Beom-soo wants

is just to make good music. :blue_heart:

So, you people thought Where Your Eyes

Linger is Korea's first BL? Well, there

were many others before but WYEL is

by far the best, that is why it's slated

Korea's first BL (you get my point?)

Back to this. Well. It was cringey af and

the storylime was meh. So yup, just watch

it if you wanna compare WYEL, I guess.

The Moment รักของเรา (BL Thai-Kmovie)

The Moment tells of the story of

three couples who are all friends

and the life lessons which they've

learnt while in the cities of New

York, London and Seoul. :blue_heart:

My Rating: 5/10

Interesting storyline but the like

between the Korean man and Thai

man was escalated just a tad too

fast. I was like, oh, they're in love?

Wrong Decision (BL Viet movie)

A man working in an HIV counselling

centre discovers he is HIV positive.

He attempts suicide by jumping off

a building. He lands on a male masseur

/night worker and breaks the male

masseur's arm. So, he lives with him

to help him with daily living. - bLoBZz

My Thoughts

My Rating: 7/10

This is the first Vietnamese BL and I was

pleasantly surprised. I did not expect that

it would have a believeable storyline and

the acting was on par with the Thais. This

would be one I would recommend if you

want to try out the Vietnam BL scene.

My Brother (BL Viet web series)

A boy's mother remarries and his step

-brother turns out to be an arrogant

young man who has had a crush on him

for the longest time ever. - bLoBZz

My Rating: 6/10

The top fell for the bottom long ago

but he never had a chance to get to

know him. It was an okay kind of story

-line and the chemistry between the

couple was not too bad, especially when

they got together. I'm pleasantly

surprised that Viet BLs are fun...

Roommate (BL Viet web series)

A male couple who live together

deal with each other's daily life

and idiosyncrasies. - bLoBZz

Neighbour Guy (BL Viet web series)

Male nighbours who stay next door

to each other flirt with each other

occassionally and eventually fall

for each other. - bLoBZz

My Rating: 🤷🏻‍♂/10

The only thing I can say is...

They used the same apartment as the

above web series. It annoyed me a little.

All I thought of was, "Same apartment."

Again, I am also unable to rate this or

even comment coz like whatever. Argh.

Sisak (BL Indian web short)

A silent short clip about two men and

how they meet daily on the train. They

refrain from speaking to each other

due to the social stigma of Indians

on gay relationships. - bLoBZz

My Thoughts

My Rating: 7/10

One of the males is married. He thus

intentionally removes his wedding ring

when he is onboard the train. I had initially

rated this an 8, but I'm docking off a point

for the intention to cheat on his partner.

I do understand that the marriage was

meant to cover up his actual sexual

orientation, but, since that has already

taken place (whether forced or not), he

should honour the marriage nonetheless.

Love for Sale (Indonesian movie)

Richard, a 41-year-old single man is

challenged by his friends to bring a

girlfriend to a wedding. Not wanting

to be embarrassed, he turns to dating

site, Love Incorporated to search for

a date. The site matches him with Arini.

The only catch is that Arini has to live

with him during the 45-day contract. :blue_heart:

Love for Sale 2 (Indonesian movie)

Ican is a 32-year-old single man who is

carefree and doesn't want to be tied

down by a marriage. Tired of his mom's

matchmaking efforts, Ican turns to

dating site, Love Incorporated for a

pretend gf just to shut his mother up.

The site matches him with Arini. The

only catch is that Arini has to live in

a neighbouring house during the site's

stipulated 45-day contract. :blue_heart:

YYY: The Series (Thai BL)

Nott, an inventor lives in an all-boys

apartment owned by Porpla, a huge

yaoi fangirl. Porpla decides to kick

Nott out after he shortcircuits the

building's electricity, when Pun, an

ad celeb arrives looking for a room.

Nott and Pun pretend to be his boy

-friends to help Nott stay on but as

time es, they fall for in love. :blue_heart:

My Thoughts

My Rating: -100/10

This not only insulted my intelligence,

it insulted my whole being. I felt so

stupid wasting my time on this. It was

not a comedy, it was just so slapstick

it threw the stick out of the window.

En of Love: This is Love Story (Thai BL)

This is a love story about how the play

-boy of the engineering faculty, Neua,

falls in love with high school student,

Praram, the younger brother of Gun

Tossakan. It focuses on how he wins the

heart of Praram, and of course the

acceptance of Gun as well. :blue_heart:

Where Your Eyes Linger (BL Kdrama)

Han Tae Joo is a 18 year-old student and

successor to the TB Group. Gang Gook is

his childhood friend, who doubles up as Tae

Joo's bodyguard and confidante. Tension

erupts between them when a new female

student, shows interest in Gang Gook. :blue_heart:

My Thoughts

My Rating: 8/10

I'll just it that I was one of those

craning my neck, wondering, "Are they

ever gonna kiss?" Heh, I'm tainted, Ig.

This was an enjoyable watch. It was so

refreshing to watch jealous Korean men

fight. I was so used to watching jealous

Thai men throw punches at each other

but when I heard Gang Gook scolding

Tae Joon in Korean, I was like, "Man, this

is something I never thought I would ever

hear." Like, yaaaaaassssss, finallyyyy!

The plot was spun out well and the fast

pace of the series was actually enjoyable.

I dunno how it'll play out of Korea ever

intends to do a full 16-ep BL series...

I guess, I can only wait and see, right?

Cain and Abel (Kdrama)

Lee Cho In is a very gifted doctor who

has everything going for him whereas

his older brother, Seon Woo, is jealous

of all the attention that he receives.

Seon Woo blames his brother for taking

away their father's love, getting more

recognition as a neurosurgeon, and for

stealing the woman he loves away. :blue_heart:

My Rating: 9/10 (ep 12 to 20)

I began Cain & Abel in May while I was

prepping for a #DAOssics blog. My MIL

had been nagging at me since 2009 to

watch this and I have not done so.

So, they operated on a lady without any

gloves and with an industrial drill. Woah.

To be very honest, there was just so much

plotting going on in eps 1 to 11 then it

took me more than 20 days to finish

these 11 eps. I was like, "Please just

gimme my medical!" ARRRGGGHHHH!

I got frustrated and was on the verge of

giving up when I told myself, I wouldn't

give up. Disgruntled, I started ep 12 and

I was hooked. Suddenly, it got interesting

and the plotting disappeared coz it was

suddenly time to uncover what all those

evil people did! Lo and behold, I was really

enjoying myself and I finished ep 12 to 20

within 2 days. It got so interesting that I

was so fully invested I couldn't believe it.

Dew (Thai BL movie)

Pop and Dew are schoolmates. They

realise that there might be something

more than friendship between them.

Unfortunately, they live in an era

which was not open to same-sex

relationships. They are separated

but are reunited 23 years later in

a most perculiar way ever. :blue_heart:

The King and The Clown (BL Kmovie)

Jang-sang is a boisterous older man who

teams up with a quiet and feminine Gong

-gil to travel to Seoul. There, they work

with a struggling acting troupe. However,

their performamce mocks the famously

hedonistic king so they are arrested.

They are then given a chance to live if

they can make the king laugh. To every

-one’s surprise, the king loves the show

and names the actors official court jesters,

and gives them food and shelter. Gong-gil

catches the eye of the king, hence, his

mistress, the ministers and Jang-sang

suspect the king's true motives. :blue_heart:

Lee Joon Gi actually looks good as a

female. I just... Haha... Ok... Again,

you people raving about WYEL... Here's

another early Korean BL with ONE

forced kiss for you. Here, take it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this show as the

crazy King here was quite entertaining.

The fact that the King willingly dared

to show his favour upon Gong-gil so

publicly was quite eye-opening for me.

Choose (Thai BL short)

Ton and Tawan love each other deeply

but their love is tested by Ton’s new

secretary who seems to be the perfect

match for him. Tawan also starts acting

distant and cold towards Ton. :blue_heart:

My Rating: 5/10

This storyline was so clichéd, but I still

kinda enjoyed it. It spoke of the huge

sacrifice of true love and it is enjoyable

if you don't mind an average production.

For love, we can (HK BL movie)

Jun is a reckless and rebellious young

man. Knowing that being gay is not

accepted by his mother, the two do not

talk even though they live together.

Michael is an honest, stable young man

who works in a bank. He meets Jun, and

they fall deeply in love. Due to Michael’s

positive energy, the relationship between

Jun and his mother gradually defrosts.

However, Jun's ex-boyfriend informs

him that he is HIV positive, thus sending

Jun's life into a downward spiral. :blue_heart:

My Thoughts

My Rating: 7/10

This is my first Hong Kong BL! I love

the Cantonese language (I do read it

but I seldom speak it. My maternal

Granny used to speak to me only in

Cantonese). I was pleasantly surprised

by some scenes and the storyline was

also pretty believeable. Overall, a good

change from the usual Thai BLs coz it

was in a language I love and miss alot.

Because of you 应为爱你 (K/Tmovie)

The Yuan brothers, Yuan Jun Cheng,

Yuan Jun Dao, and Yuan Jun Ping all have

different mothers. The 3 of them search

for Lin Xun, as he is suspected to be their

father's son. Adding to the camaraderie

is Jun Dao's roommate Yang Xiang and

Jun Ping's best friend Yan Yue. :blue_heart:

My Rating: 4/10

This was a mess. The eldest son speaks

only Korean coz the Dad's first wife is

a Korean. The second and third sons are

Taiwanese, so they spoke Mandarin. Even

then, dearest playboy Dad having 3 sons

with 3 different women and they are all

gay. Like gosh, from bro-nemies, they

became close and they all had a get-

together with all their partners. Like

what are the odds, right? It's so odd...

Ingredients (Thai BL web series)

This BL was created by a Thai food

company and were looking to create

a romantic BL-themed foodie drama.

Marwin is a musician who is not only in

love with Top and music, but also with

Top's yummy food. Top is an aspiring

chef studying culinary arts. :blue_heart:

Still About Section 377 (S2)

(Hindi BL web series)

Rohit's boyfriend, Sid dumps him over

the phone and before anyone knows it,

his family announces that Sid is getting

married to a local girl in the village.

Suresh (a celeb), Chotu (Rohit's house

-keeper) and Rohit go to the village to

confront Sid. They meet new friends

and learn many important life lessons

during their stay in the village. - bLoBZz

My Rating: 8/10 (S1)

My Rating: 20/10 (S2)

I watched S1 after S2, but thankfully I

was already pre-warned that S2 was way

more astonishing compared to S1. The first

season portrayed the Syresh's acceptance

of his cousin, Rohit's, sexual orientation. It

was also poised as a eye-opener for the

Indian community regarding section 377.

S2 is such a beautiful show. I wouldn't

say it is a BL but more of a slice-of-life

drama. Rohit learnt to be a better person

and Sid finally came out to his family. Their

experiences brought joy to the family and

the ability to love each other for who they

are, and not for their sexual orientation.

Bhakti (a trans lady) was my favourite

character. The actor's portrayal of Bhakti's

character kept me glued to the screen.

Her cries of rejection and sad childhood

made me ugly cry in the dead of night.

This is a definite must-watch drama.

Phew!
