Lately I’ve been re-watching a lot

of my favorite dramas or just dramas from

my early K-drama watching days for feelings

of nostalgia. Currently though, I have been

re-watching My Mister which happens to be

one of my favorite dramas to this day - and

one of the reasons for that are the beautiful

soundtracks, so I figured this blog was the

perfect opportunity to talk about them.

As hinted from the title, I’ll be ranking and

reviewing my top five OSTs from My Mister.

Okay, let’s get started!

"True love makes painful tears fall

because it was such a sad world.”

What truly carries this song is Woolim’s

unique and   one   of a kind voice. His vocal

tone has such depth and the way he starts

the song almost sounds haunting. As the song

progresses, the song production gets such a

rich texture that matches the soul and grit of

Woolim’s vocals. The lyrics speaks of longing

and you can definitely feel this desolate feeling

within the instrumentation   of the track even

without knowing the lyrics.

"Like running around a hamster wheel,

I’m endlessly wandering.”

This track has two versions: the original

and a piano version. What I love the most

about this is that the same song with the

same lyrics can sound so different and

somehow convey different emotions from

certain parts of the lyrics that the other

version doesn’t. The original version has

a very mellow feeling whereas the piano

version has a more beatific feeling. And

where the chorus sounds more emotive

in the piano version,   the verses   carry

more weight in the original version rather

than the chorus.

"The fact that you’re so dazzling

Is because I’m too dark of a night?”

There’s nothing too complex at the start

of the song which is where I think it’s strength

lies. The song   isn’t too big sonically rather

there’s just the strings and these whimsical

sound effects in the background in the begin-

ning; so as a listener, you really pay attention

to JaeHwi’s voice - whom has such an interest-

ing vocal tone and then the song really builds

with the strings and drums, which are super

pretty    with JaeHwi’s vocals. Additionally, the

lyrics are a small ode to the moon and it makes

references   to    comparing   oneself’s   to   the

brightness of the moon but also how lonely the

moon   must    be,   which   is    always   such a

beautiful metaphor - something    can be so

beautiful but under the surface and can be

made tragically beautiful.

"As if nothing is wrong today

Another ordinary day es.”

Seung Hwan’s voice marries perfectly

with the lyrics of this song to make it into

such a beautiful masterpiece. I believe the

somewhat conversational   tone of lyrics

sung over such a delicate melody is what

really makes the song so good. The lyrics

start in a first   person perspective before

the latter half of the song addresses what

the former half states in a second person

perspective - this a lyrical structure that I

found interesting since it’s only sung by

one singer here whereas usually with a

lyrical pattern like this it’d be a duet. The

song’s lyrics matches nicely sonically with

what the viewers see visually of the daily

struggles we watch the characters of My

Mister encounter.

"Will this long sadness ever stop?

Will warm sunlight ever shine down on me?”

This soundtrack is the one that stuck

with me long after I finished watching My

Mister for the first time. I believe what makes

a great soundtrack is listening back on it and

that song being able to paint the story or

convey the emotions a character or capture

a scene of the drama vividly in your mind.

This song I think does such a good job at

connecting with the sentiments of our female

lead Ji An, and the way the singer emotes the

lyrics is done so beautifully. The lyrics of the

song speak of feeling like life is a   bit of an

an endless loop and feeling like yours dreams

have slipped through your fingers. The words

carry this feeling of aimlessly wandering with

desperate hopes for something better.
