True Crime is a non-fiction genre typically seen in novels, film, and podcasts. The author presents the details and findings about actual crimes that involve real victims. The True Crime genre has become very popular in recent times due to mass media creating fictional shows, movies and novels, and cold-cases being reopened due to modern technology and evidence.

Growing up I loved fictional crime and mystery novels, I always wanted to try and solve the case before I finished reading. My parents thought I would end up being a Forensic Scientist or Criminologist. As I got older I started watching fictional crime TV shows with my dad, our favourite is The Mentalist. Although I also watched True Crime documentaries on Netlfix, I found these overly dramatic and not very interesting. Instead I turned to YouTube where I started watching videos made by Bella Fiori and Bailey Sarian. I would highly recommend these two lovely females, their channels mostly focus on True Crime murders and serial killer cases with some beauty and fashion content as well. I find them both very entertaining and like the way they explain each case, they talk about the victim's life and keep their names alive. Especially with cold-cases or missing people it is important to keep their names and photos relevant.

While my main interest for True Crime started out as solving the crimes in fictional novels, then watching TV shows, it also gave me a potential career that would help others. I have since started studying something very different from Scientific work, but still have a big interest in this topic. Hearing about cases motivates me to educate others on how to stay safe, protect themselves and avoid unfortunate circumstances. I am ionate about keeping cold-case victims and missing peoples names relevant so that no one forgets them and hopefully their families find closure.

Don't travel alone, especially at night.

If you are alone tell someone when you're leaving/get home and give them addresses and numbers.

Be aware of your surroundings, if you are alone don't wear earphones with music playing loudly.

Avoid isolated places, like alleys, and don't stay in places with minimal lighting.

Don't accept car rides from strangers.

Don't walk close to the road-side of a path, avoid going past parks or abandoned buildings.

Don't accept drinks or food from strangers.

Don't get drunk or do drugs outside of your home or without someone sober that you trust staying with you.

If you feel like someone is following you call someone and talk to them, cross the street and make sure you know your location.

Don't associate with criminals or people participating in illegal activities.

Avoid people with violent tendencies or forms of sexual perversion, for example being non-concentual.

Show confidence when you walk, keep your head high and back straight.

Learn basic self-defence, carry an alarm device or pepper spray for emergency.

Scream loudly and fight back if someone touches or grabs you. Get others attention by saying things like Fire! or R*pe!
