Homophobia affects me personally in several aspects of my life. It prevents me from freely expressing my love for the woman I love. It makes me feel insecure and ashamed of who I am. It forces me to hide and lie about my sexual orientation. It exposes me to risks of harassment, arbitrary arrest and violence from the police, family and society[^2^][2]. Homophobia also deprives me of education, work, and health opportunities, as many institutions do not recognize or respect my identity.

I believe homophobia is based on prejudice, ignorance and intolerance. I think people who are homophobic are afraid of what they don't understand or what challenges their religious or cultural beliefs[^3^][3] [^4^][4]. I believe that homophobia can be fought with education, awareness and activism. I believe LBQ+ people deserve to live with dignity, respect, and freedom. I believe that love is stronger than hate.
