Mordern Black Metal Bands Taking It Above And Beyond - Part 1.

GREETINGS MY BLACK METAL BRETHREN

Again it is I, your friendly neighborhood black metal nerd, Kay!

Well..there are many..MANY modern black metal bands.

From the first wave and second. Beyond those 2 lies the 3rd wave, also known as "Modern Black Metal."

Metal in general is totally going insane.

From the point of prog and tech death.

Black is one of the predicesors of the evolution of genres.

From what Venom and Celtic Frost started, to what Mayhem and Darkthrone did with that sound, all the way to..what these bands are doing.

These are the modern wave of black metal bands, and how they've taken black metal beyond what it could ever be.

Mgla

Out of this whole list..Mgla has to be the hardest to explain.

They rose up in 2017 when they released there highly talked about and praised album Exercises In Futility.

They bring back the old old style of Darkthrone. The Under A Funeral Moon days. That's sort of slight inspiration. But in general they make it there own. They even have inspirations from watain and Dissection. But other than those bands that is all I can think of.

They have really made there own style of screechy haunting black metal. Along with very slow melodic parts that just make there songs even darker in ways.

Mgla is an up and coming band and I recommend you check them out.

Rotting Christ

I think Rotting Christ, Not only in black metal but in general are one of the most unique and individual sounding bands.

They bring this holy/unholy percussive ritualistic voodoo like style that is so fun.

They're catchy.

The vocals are unlike any other.

It goes from deep operatic singing, to very unique shriek yells.

Guitar work is very groovy with very classic heavy metal like solos.

Drums can go from blasting, to EXTREMELY percussive ritual like beats.

I don't think there's a band in the world that sounds like Rotting Christ.

They've always been praised.

If you are looking to get into black metal this band is perfect.

Istapp

Istapp is a band from Sweden that took the cold dark Nordic side of immortal and the musical influence of Darkthrone and Dissection and made it something that a lot of people would consider happy black metal.

I call them Snow metal lol.

With the fun classic black metal drumming, the catchy melodic guitars, and the extremely raspy vocal style.

Istapp will soon be one of the biggest bands black metal has ever seen.

Impaled Nazarene

Finland's own...uhh..

This band is.. Strange.

They're black metal but they have a very punk/grind influence.

They're taking black metal in a more..relentless punky dirrection.

Like a faster more destructive Hellhammer.

Its dark in ways that aren't supposed to be dark.

They're so percussive. The main thing that sticks out in all of this is the drums.

Impaled Nazarene has always been consistent yet destructive.

They have a satanic punk attitude that I myself love.

Very very very extreme band

Saor

Saor is pretty much .. The most beautiful band on this list.

The pure..composition.

Just listen to a song like Autumn Rain. It really takes you to a trance.

Saor puts the atmosphere in atmospheric black metal.

There isnt much to say than just..beautiful.

Batushka

Batushka..is..

I don't know.

They're probably the newest band on this list but the..most different.

Like..not only do they put on an unholy amazing show. But there music is like if you went back in time and you were a knight during a storm.

Its like Ragnorok.

Its like a battle.

This is unholy battle music.

Its so epic and soaring yet so brutal.

They put on one hell of a show.

The music itself is so hard to describe.

My favorite thing through it all is the vocals. There's like 3 or 4 vocalists? 1 of them do harsh vocals, the rest sing so very deep and opera like. Its like dark souls boss metal edition I love it.

They look very Badass as well.

And those damn bells man

Revenge

Okay so..we know obviously

Emotions can't make music

But Idk..Revenge sounds like Hate is making music.

This band oozes hate.

Its so dark and uncomfortable in such a good way.

Its war metal so it has to be that way but Jesus man, this shit is out of physical and musical control.

I think this music has killed a few people. I'm just being honest this stuff is so intense.

The drums are so machine gun like.

The vocals are so disturbing. It goes from sounding like a demonic heyena to a demonic alligator. Or maybe even a bear.

The guitars...Well let's say nobody knows whats being played here.

This shit is out of hand in such a good way.

Moonsorrow

I love Moonsorrow so much.

They're a very sentimental band to me.

They're one pagan band that will show you what true spirit is.

It's like you're running through a forest in an intense battle.

They get your blood pumping so much.

They're slow, chanty, makes you wanna march.

Go out at night and take a run listening to this band and see how far you get from your home.

Trust me.

The strange stringed instruments being used in the background, the chanty screechy vocals, the marchy slow drums, and oh my Odin the amazing catchy guitar work.

This band is to die for

Carach Angren

Carach Angren is not only the most popular band on this list but the most hated.

I always hear "Carach Angren is not even black metal."

But they are. They're symphonic.

These guys are inspired by obviously Emperor and Dimmu Borgir. The symphonic side of black metal.

They are extremely melodic.

My favorite parts of this band is the drums and vocals.

The vocals are so crunchy and high.

And the drums are so fast and just amazing in general. Carach Angren is paving a way for a lot of symphonic bands coming in. Not just with black but in general.

Blut Aus Nord

A strange mysterious French band..that is runned by only 1 person. Identity unknown.

Years ago started a series of albums called Memoria Vetusa.

Memoria Vetusa III is when Blut Aus Nord started to take off.

They're a sensation in the avant garde side of metal at the moment.

They are probably the most mysterious sounding band.

Very nature like.

The inspiration cannot be drawn from anywhere. This band is strange And unknown. And I have a feeling Its gonna stay that way.

This is the first part to a tiny series I'll be doing. There is plenty of bands I missed but I will definitely be having them on the list in the future.
