Day 25- Being Set up by Friends

Marinette, Alya, Adrien and Nino all made plans to go to the cinema. But what if someone (or some people) were to purposefully cancel?

The rest of the week was pretty monotonous. School. Work. Home. Repeat. Luka and Mari hadn't spoken since Monday which made Marinette a bit concerned; was he purposefully ignoring her?

"So, you up for going to the movies this weekend? I've asked Nino and Adrien and they're coming along too." Alya and Marinette were stood outside the school gates at the end of the day.

"Yeah, I'd love to come. What's the film?"

"We were thinking of seeing that new romance one." Alya grinned at the bluenette.

"Is there something you're not telling me?" Marinette crossed her arms.

"I've pretty much told you everything. We're meeting at the cinema at around 2 so make sure you're not late." Alya checked her watch before she started walking away. "I'll see you then."

Once Mari got home she told Sabine her plans before picking up a folder of unfinished homework. She spent most of the night completing it so she would have the whole day free to hang out tomorrow.

Marinette stood in front of her wardrobe the next morning, contemplating what to wear when she met her friends. She pushed clothes back and forth on their hangers as she tried to decide what kind of mood she was in. Dress? Top and tros? Skirt? It was starting to warm up slightly but still pretty cold so she ended up choosing a plain black top with a red skirt, black leggings to keep her legs warm and matching red jacket. She tied her hair into a loose ponytail as she had lost one of her hair ties and picked up a small over-the-shoulder black bag. She put on a small amount of makeup, just some mascara, a little blush and nude lipstick, and made her way downstairs. 1pm. Plenty of time. She had a brief bite to eat before checking her phone to make sure the plans hadn't changed. Unlocking the front door she kissed her mother goodbye and stepped into the afternoon air.

She took a few stops along the way before reaching the cinema. It was 1:55, she was early for once. She pulled back out her phone and texted her mom to let her know she had safely arrived. Putting her phone back down she noticed a blonde boy heading her way. She gave a little wave as he stopped directly in front of her.

"Hey Bugaboo." He grinned as Mairnette glared.

"You're never dropping that name are you?" Adrien shook his head.

"Why would I? You certainly look like a ladybug today with the colours of your outfit." He gestured to her red and black outfit as she blushed nervously.

"It's just a coincidence. And I could say the same thing about you Kitty." She looked at his outfits. He had black tros with a green stripe on either side. But then she noticed what top he was wearing and butterflies swarmed her stomach. "Y-you're wearing the top I made for you." Adrien looked down and grinned.

"I'm the cat's meow. And why wouldn't I wear it? It's a nice item of clothing." Marinette tried not to stare to much at his top as it looked like she was looking at his chest so she averted her eyes.

"Its 2 o'clock so Alya and Nino should be here soon." At the mention of their names both of their phones vibrated simultaneously. Marinette glanced over to Adrien and he simply shrugged. She grabbed her phone and read the message.

{ALYA} -Mari I'm so sorry but I've had to cancel, something came up. I promise I'll make it up to you-

"So, Alya's not coming." She sighed and put her phone away.

"Neither is Nino." Adrien showed him the message. Weirdly enough, it was almost identical to the one she received. Then it clicked.

"Alya you're going to pay for this when I see you." She muttered under her breath.

"What did you say?" Marinette jumped slightly when he spoke.

"N-nothing. Listen I think this was their plan all along. I think we've been set up." Marinette quickly took her phone out, typed out 'you're dead when I next see you' and sent it to Alya before fiddling with it in her hands.

"You mean, they made this plan just so we could be alone together. Smart and well executed, I'll give them that." Adrien quickly checked the time. "So? Are we watching a movie or not? We're here so we might as well watch something."

"Yeah, as long as it's nothing scary. I hate scary stuff." Adrien nodded at her response as he held open the cinema door for her. As they stepped inside a warm breeze swept over them as they checked the list of films being shown in that hour. After discussing for a few minutes they finally decided on an action-adventure film (not too sappy yet not too scary, a perfect choice that suited the pair).

Buying tickets and snacks they sat down in their designated seats as the lights started to dim. As the adverts started playing they whispered backa and forth to each other as quietly as possible. It ended up being a challenge, especially when Adrien was trying his hardest to make Marientte laugh. She tried her best not to cave in but she ended up giggling a small amount. She received a few unpleasant looks from the people around her, which made her a bit uncomfortable, but Adrien was there to cheer her up again.

As the credits rolled to signal the end of the movie, the lights flicked back on as people randomly started standing up and leaving their seats. They waited for the crowd to die down before they followed suit and closed the door behind them.

"You know what? I'm glad Alya and Nino ditched us. I got to spend time with just you which is always great. Maybe we should arrange to come again, just the two of us."

"I'd love that." Adrien grinned at her reply.

"You ok with walking home by yourself? If you want I can ask and see if I can give you a lift?"

"I'm fine walking. I'll see you in school." She waved at the blonde boy before walking the long distance back to her home. The more she thought about it, the more she agreed with what Adrien had said. Maybe Alya and Nino ditching them was a good thing after all? Even though their time spent together was short and most of it was spent in silence, she still had a great time. Although saying that, any time she was with Adrien she normally felt that way. No wonder she was falling so hard for this boy...
