So...ever since this movie hit the rounds, I've seen post after post. This is the new horror. Scariest horror film since Barbarian... If you get it, its terrifying! So... i sat down and gave it a go. Is it all its made to be? Overhyped? Lets get into it!
Skinamarink!
So, there's no real plot here. The film maker wanted more atmosphere than story, and it really shows. Its about 1 hour and 40 minutes long, and the story is only maybe 2 minutes...if that. So what is the story? Well, from what I can gather is, Kevin fell and bumped his head and is now hallucinating.
There's some stuff that leads me to believe this. One is the dad says it while talking to someone on the phone I believe. And the rest of the film has loops. And no one in frame. People without faces. Lots of whispering with distorted voices. Even Kevin's attack is looped, then he's there again asking if they can watch something happy...and ends with a man telling him its time to sleep and the man has no face and won't answer Kevin...
So yeah. I've heard lots of theories. Its child abuse or neglect...etc. but since nothing really connects, it only makes sense its in his mind after falling down the stairs. But let's forget the convoluted nothing plot and move on to something that matters more.
This movie was made on a 2 million dollar budget...and is nothing more than bad camera angles, whispering, and staring at walls. I know people will go "but its an art piece. You just don't get it!" No. Art says something. It leaves crumbs for you to follow. Babadook? That's an art film. This is just a guy with a camera with nothing to say. If you read the plot it says "two kids wake up to their parents missing and doors and windows vanished'. Do they? They parents are there for a scene telling one of the kids to look under the bed. And its not until over an hour in, that one makes a phone call saying they are cut and feeling sick and are waiting by the door that's not there...
All of this is a really bad tell, and show nothing. Theres one jump scare and takes an hour to get to. Then another 30 minutes with maybe 2 minutes of anything happening. This movie feels like watching a ring camera and hoping something on it matters.
So...other words...this is a horrible movie from a talentless wannabe film maker, using "art" as a cover for wasting over an hour of peoples time. And fans are too dumb to see it and want to believe that the five minutes something happens actually has deeper meaning. Save yourself...and don't watch this. Want to see good horror films? Taking of Deborah Logan i believe its called...watch that. Its amazing. Skip this at all costs. I watched it for free...and still feel like I overpaid by 2 million.
