Well at least it wasn’t Geno I’m not sure if I was the only one who thought Geno was gonna pop up when the trailer focused on Mario either way it’s Steve and I’m honestly still bummed about the character in question not because I hate Minecraft I’ve played it before and I did enjoy it I was just really hoping a Gen 8 Pokémon would be revealed instead but nope it’s another 3rd party character. After the last fighters which was filled with 3rd party characters all of which I didn’t care much about I was and still am hoping this one won’t be like that.
Just in case anyone is curious the characters that I personally want in as DLC are as follows
4. A 2nd Splatoon Character specifically DJ Octavio

I really like Splatoon it’s probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite Nintendo franchise and I really liked DJ Octavio as a villain in the first two Splatoon games plus Smash Bros could use more villain characters.

I’ve never played the game before but I love the music in it and for that reason alone I want him in as a character I think he’s highly unlikely however due to Sony having far more relevant and popular choices like Crash & Spyro who I don’t believe are still owned by Sony but instead owned by Vivindi Games.

Sonic was planned to be in Super Smash Bros Melee and if that happened he would’ve been the first 3rd party character to be in the Smash
series instead he was for whatever reason not in that game and made his debut in Brawl and has been in the game sense. Other recent 3rd party newcomers like Ryu from Street Fighter had Ken as another rep meanwhile Sonic is still alone and I think it’s about time Tails ed him.

Pokémon is my favorite franchise of all time and sense Sword & Shield has been out I’ve been wanting a gen 8 rep. But I’d be fine with almost any Pokemon but the reason I want either of these two is because Rillaboom is my favorite starter out of the Galar Trio and like many others have said there isn’t a fully evolved grass starter in Smash yet as a playable character. I wanted Urshifu because I simply like its design and it would make sense to add him to promote the Sword & Shield DLC. I still think a gen 8 Pokémon could happen after all next year is Pokémon’s 25th anniversary but I won’t get my hopes up.
Either way I kinda hate how there’s been so much of a focus on 3rd party characters so far I wish they announce more first party characters but that’s just my opinion. Either way let me know what you thought.

I do see where you're coming from with your desire for 1st party characters rather than 3rd party characters, but I assume the most likely reason for why 3rd party characters are chosen is simply because they sell better compared to 1st party characters. There's more of a reason to buy them than Byleth or Min Min. Personally, I feel this was a good reveal and I can't wait for the presentation to go over his moveset.
I hope the next choices are the following:
Sora - I've been wanting him in since the base game and I feel he'd be a perfect fit for Ultimate.
Reimu Hakurei - This indie character in my eyes is the best choice. Plus, Nintendo can use her and wouldn't go through legal issues.
Obstagoon - I prefer it over the Galar starters in of personality, and I find Urshifu to be really boring and a waste of a really good mechanic for a fighting game character. Plus, it's a combination of a European Badger and Jean Simmons. How could you go wrong with that?
Sigma - Now that Spirits can be promoted, he feels like a good Mega Man rep. He's a 3rd party character that's also a villain, he brings a new world to the roster (Mega Man X), and doesn't have a Mii Costume or Assist Trophy. He practically fills out a character bingo card.
But hey, there's 2 things we can agree with: thank goodness it wasn't Geno and that 7 theory was a dumbest crap we've ever heard.
I’d be happy with Obstagoon also yeah I figure 3rd party characters are more exciting for most people.
But what is the 7 theory?

7 theory was (well) a theory that Geno was the character because the number 7 kept getting brought up. Challenger Pack 7, being Fighter 77, and that Geno originates from a game that involves 7 stars.

No way, Steve is really coming to smash? My brother showed it to me and I thought it was a parody or joke. Also I never thought of Parappa coming to smash, but that doesn't sound like a bad idea. But how would paper fight? Hmm
Minecraft Steve never seemed like a crazy choice to me. But If Mr. Game & Watch another flat 2d character can have a working move set I think they could think of something for Parappa.
