Becoming A Priestess For A Deity

Good day all,

I have a question.

I’ve noticed some who say they are priests/priestesses of deities within different pantheons. For example, X person is a priest(ess) of deity Y.

I would like to further devote myself to a deity, and considering my individual circumstances and knowledge surrounding Them, I thought becoming a priestess would be a great idea!

That being said, I don’t know the rules. I’ve come across no sources about this, whether it must be done in an organised group, such as a coven or if priestesses can be solitary? I couldn’t find anything.

Thus, I look to those knowledgeable in this community. If anyone has any information to share, I’d be happy to hear it!

Have a great day,

~V :blue_heart:

Read the book Dedicant, Devotee, Priest by Stephanie Woodfield. I think it does a good job of discussing different levels of devotion.

I should also say I believe being a priest/priestess is an every day thing. You devote yourself to the deity full time, it’s not a once a week or when you feel like it thing. Some people will give themselves the title priest/priestess because it makes them sound important or they want to sound cool. But others actually do dedicate their whole life to a divine entity, like Gaia Rose who’s dedicated her profession to Gaia. While it’s probably not for everyone and those who don’t become priests are any less valid in their worship it can apparently very emotionally and mentally rewarding.

It’s completely up to you and there aren’t any set rules. I’ve considered myself a Priestess of Gaia for years because she’s the goddess I feel most drawn to and I’ve devoted my professional life as well to honoring Her sacred cycles. I will say that I’m also currently in Priestess Training to become a Priestess of the Goddess (ie the Divine Feminine) and that’s been a magickal journey!

All I know is based off of this book that I have that has great information on how to start and what is expected of a priest/priestess. It looks at it at a whole and not just for one specific deity.

Probably just the term. Priest is usually a masculine and priestess feminine.
