Healing Properties: This herb can be used to help stop bleeding and inflammation in the lungs, bowels, and stomach due to its mineral content. It’s very rich in fiber. It is also used as a poultice for rashes and sores by increasing blood flow. . Chickweed helps to liquify and remove mucous from the respiratory tract. Chickweed can help burn fat in the body and be used as a topical scrub for acne on the skin. It is well known in treating skin inflammations arising from conditions sh as eczema, psoriasis, acne, as well as many others. For weight loss some research suggests that the flavonoids, tannins, and antioxidants called saponins found in chickweed can help reduce fat in the body. Chickweed extracts can be istered as an emmenagogue, galactagogue, postpartum deputation as well as an excellent circulatory tonic. Chickweed is packed with vitamins C, E, and beta-carotene which is synthesized in the body as vitamin A and gamma-linolenic acid. It is especially rich in minerals such as magnesium, iron, copper, and phosphorus, and antioxidants such as saponins. This herb can be used in it’s dry or fresh forms.
Infusion dose recommendation is steeping 1 tbsp of the her in 1/2 cup of water. Take 1/2 to a whole cup of this mix a day. As a decoction boil 3 heaping tbsp of chickweed in 1 qt water until a pint of liquid remains. For constipation take a cup full of the decoction, warm, every three hours or until a bowel movement.
Magickal & Ritual: While the area of concentration for chickweed is mainly with relationships, it can actually be beneficial in any lunar based working.Chickweed is considered in animal magic or bird magic or when working with a bird totem or patron. Carry or use in spells designed to attract love or to maintain a relationship. To attract a new romance or maintain a current relationship, mix chickweed, roses, and orange blossoms into your bath water. To maintain a good marriage add a little bit into your partners food every day. (Making sure to keep in mind allergies so that there is no negative reactions) To bring peace into your home sprinkle tea brewed from this herb throughout the house. It’s been used in poppet magic to represent fertility, probably because of it’s prodigious production of seeds (makes a lot).
