Spirit boards were something that my mother always cautioned me about at a child. While not a witch herself, she was no stranger to the supernatural and firmly believed in the unseen world. She always said that messing with a spirit board would open a door which could not be closed, inviting all manner of spirits and demons into our realm.
I can firmly say that I took her advise to heart. While I can appreciate spirit boards for aesthetic reasons, I have never owned one. I have seen some beautiful planchets carved from crystal online, but I would never purchase one.
Those who choose to use spirit boards are well within their right, and who am I to tell another how they should practice? Although I may worry for their safety, I acknowledge that I currently lack knowledge on the subject to back up my concern. I am sure that with plenty of protection spells and the like, one could use a spirit board safely. I have simply never looked into it.

I personally use the spirit board and do indeed take precautions though no matter what there is always the possibility of being greeted by something bad. I have had many good experiences with it but I've also had my fair share of bad. Life (and death) is a roller coaster.
