Most people wouldn’t associate coffee with witchcraft or spirituality. But if you are a true coffee lover, you know that first sip in the morning can be felt down in your soul... Tell me I’m not the only one! And there are actually many ways to work this brew into your practice also.

Coffee is very earthy, and can be relaxing(if you don’t drink enough to make yourself have the jitters) and can be used to help in grounding. It can also help ward the against negative energy, thoughts and emotions. A great way to set intentions for the day is with your morning cup(or four) of coffee. Think of what you want out of your day, or even say it into your cup, and as you drink, receive it! You can also add other ingredients and call on the properties they represent, be it sugar and cream, or even spices and herbs like cinnamon, nutmeg, peppermint, it’s all up to you!

Coffee grounds or beans can be used in jar/bottle spells or sachets to give spells a little speed and extra power. Beans, grounds or brewed coffee can also be used as offerings to some deities and ancestors also. You can also use blessed or charged water in your coffee maker to brew with. I personally have only used full moon charged water, calling on the power and energy of the moon that the water possesses.

Divination with coffee is a popular practice. If you don’t mind drinking coffee with a bit of grit to it, when you are done with your cup you can practice tasseography and read the coffee grounds, just as people read tea leaves. If scrying is more your forte, you can pour a cup of dark black coffee and use it as a scrying mirror, or even use the swirls of cream as you pour it in.

Coffee is used so many different ways in many different religions and paths of spirituality. Crowley even wrote an invocation of coffee!

These are just ideas of course, and there are some awesome ideas in the links I’ll provide for source reference, but essentially it’s all up to you and how you choose to use coffee in your practice. So brew a pot and start working your magick!
