Day 4: Favorite Female Character

Hello Everyone and welcome to day 4 of 30. Today and tomorrow will be the hardest for me to choose because there are SO many good characters. I found it extremely difficult to choose, but i chose:

Sophie

︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼

Sophie is a very responsible girl whose life is set on the path of adventure once a curse has been placed on her. She accepts her curse and tries to live on, but she is still herself. An aspect i love in Howl's moving castle is that although Sophie is old due to her curse, when she is herself her youth tends to show through. As if her acceptance of herself and living her own life, instead of being held back by responsibility, is the way to break her curse.

Sophie is not only determined to run the hat shop initially, but to work as hard as she can in Howl's Castle. Her determination for change and prosper is above all her greatest focus. This drives her to work through any obstacles and always come back with a smile. Her determination is above all incredible.

:black_small_square: Insecurities :black_small_square:

I find Sophie extremely relatable in the fact that she is insecure. It makes her more human and realistic. Creating a character who is insecure about her looks but obviously is thought as beautiful by all, portrays a great message to kids:

That beauty is not simply in the eye of the beholder. (that others view you differently than you view yourself)

Side note: This will tie in later in this challenge.

:black_small_square: Effect on others :black_small_square:

As we see, Sophie brings out the good in people. Howl becomes brave because of her. The witch of the waste gets over her obsession with Howl. Markl has a family. And Calcifier decides to stay with Howl. Sophie brings together a family. Along with this they are all happier when she is around. She has a truly lightening effect on people.

:black_small_square: Kind and Selfless :black_small_square:

Sophie has always done what is best for others. Whether it be taking over the family buisness or leaving behind her family because of her curse. Her kindness comes into play towards her family, markl, and even the witch of the waste who had cursed her. She still cheers her on although she has, in a way, ruined her life.

:black_small_square: Beauty :black_small_square:

Sophie is beautiful, and the fact that she does not realize it makes her even more beautiful. Because her beauty is more graceful and associated with her caring personality as well. Both her brown and silver hair are amazing. And as Howl states sophie's hair "looks like starlight" which is a concept i enjoy because it ties into the idea of magic and demons being fallen stars in a way. And how she captures that magical aspect simply in her hair. (However, i do prefer the cool toned outfits compared to the warm toned ones at the end)

Sophie states some amazing quotes in the movie, both inspirational and funny. Her humor is very logical as well but not in a bad way.

"A hearts a heavy burden" is probably the most influencial of them, so i will only quote that one here. But majority of you have seen it and know that there are some amazing things she says

Overall, Sophie is an amazing character through and through. She is beloved by all and is a wonderful role model. Sophie is such a strong female character and represents a large majority of young women. She portrays ideas of setting oneself free and realizing you can break from the things that limit you if you just take the chance. The world awaits you and you may find your destiny. And be someone who makes others lives better by being there, you are worth that influence. You can be the change you wish to see. Anyway, that's all. I'll end it here.
