Hi everyone! Today I'll be sharing about

burnouts. I'll first talk about what burnouts

are, and then about some things I like to do

when I'm burnt out.

exhaustion of physical or emotional strength

   stress or frustration

Burnouts often occur when you’ve been pushing yourself really hard for a period of time, but not seeing any measurable results. This may cause you to feel like nothing you’re doing is working and demotivate you, leading to a situation where you no longer have any motivation to keep going.

When you’re burnt out, you may feel lethargic and unable to cope, have difficulty concentrating on work or lack creativity. You may also feel increasingly stressed out and frustrated by your work, or even feel numb about it (stressed to the point where you don’t care anymore). For some people, they can become detached from others, or experience physical symptoms like headaches.

I know I’m burnt out when every task I try to do disinterests me and I can’t keep at one task for long. I usually also feel physically tired and like I need a lot more sleep, even if I’m already sleeping enough hours.

Burnouts really suck, especially when they happen during exam season (which is most common for me). However, there are some things I like to do when I’m burnt out, and I’ve found that they make me feel better and regain some motivation.

As I’ve mentioned in the previous section, burnouts may be caused by hard work seemingly not producing results. To combat the feeling that whatever effort you’re putting into a task is pointless, learn to identify small achievements and celebrate them. This will make you realise that maybe your effort wasn’t so pointless after all and give you some motivation to continue pushing on. Also keep in mind that baby steps are crucial and even if an achievement seems small to you, in the long run, it’ll help a lot.

For example, maybe you didn’t score so well in a chemistry exam overall. However, you did really good for questions on organic chemistry. See, you did actually understand something from all that studying you did! It may be a small achievement, but an achievement nonetheless, and you should definitely celebrate it!

Take some time off your day to go outside for a much-needed change in scenery. When you’ve been working non-stop for a long time, the days may start feel mundane and blend together. Every day is just a repeat of the same things, and there’s nothing to look forward to or feel excited about.

Going outside will break the mundanity of your everyday life, and there’s definitely interesting and exciting things to see outside. Also, this will give you a breath of fresh air and make you feel more refreshed and ready to continue working.

If you’re feeling so tired you can’t even think about picking up a pen, maybe it’d be a good idea to take the day off. Sometimes, we forget to take enough breaks (very guilty of that), and push ourselves to the limit because we’re not happy with how we’re doing. However, in my opinion, emotional and mental wellbeing are more important than good grades in the long run, so it’s important to make sure you don’t over-stress and overwork yourself. Furthermore, sufficient rest will make you feel more energised so you can take on that one really difficult assignment with renewed energy later on.

Spend some time doing something you love, or something you’ve been wanting to do.  For me, I find that watching shows/videos helps me destress. So when I’m really stressed and starting to feel burnt out, I usually put my work aside for the day and binge watch one of the countless dramas I’ve been meaning to watch.

For some people, spending time with friends energises them (extroverts, I’m looking at you)(haha no judgement y’all are great and you do you). If that works for you, set up an outing with a few friends and go have fun!

Tbh, even if you’re not an extrovert, it’s still a good idea to hang out with friends. I’m an introvert, but I find that hanging out with my friends makes me feel happier and less exhausted (except maybe socially, but it’s definitely worth it). This suggestion also sorta links back to my point about going for a walk. Hanging out with friends adds a little something special to your otherwise mundane life. Plus, it creates more opportunities to make memories!

Hopefully this post was coherent. I wrote this

while sleep deprived, so I feel like some parts

sound weird. Forgive me for that

I’ve said this in a previous post, but I feel

like it’s fitting for me to repeat it here.

Though studying hard is important, your

health is even more important. Make sure to

take care of yourself and get sufficient rest!

Don’t overwork yourself, and that

every achievement is something you should

be proud of.

This post got surprisingly (or more like

shockingly) long :grimacing: That’s all from me for

today! If you got this far, imma send you

some hearts :two_hearts:
