This blog is going to be kind of a storytime, with tips towards the end!
It's going too be divided into three parts
i) my initial approach
ii) what I got wrong + consequences

i) I N I T I A L A P P R O A C H
My initial approach towards all-nighters was rather intense. I thought oh, I'm staying up so all I have to do is work. If I'm not working I'm wasting time, since I'm awake and putting in energy all I have to do is work.
And I used to work all night pretty intensely, no breaks and no eating or drinking anything.
I think we can all see where this is going at this point, we've all read the importance of taking breaks, but I thought they would be a waste of the since I'm staying awake (smh Ann) and boy did I learn the hard way. Since we had a lot of exams back to back, I was doing this continuously, not sleeping well, or eating.

ii) M I S T A K E + R E S U L T
Pretty clear if you have read the above, I was not taking breaks and time to rest. Overworking myself and trying to justify it as not wasting time. Major mistake. I was not taking care of myself mentally or physically.
The result, an exam had just got over, I had a few days till the next, I had relaxed that day, but I felt so guilty, I panicked. High blood pressure. Fainted. Had to be rushed to the hospital. This had other underlying factors as well. I had to stay two days and was given two IVs. For those of you who don't know the meaning, here :

I was dehydrated, and later got diagnosed with generalised anxiety.
All this in the middle of exams, all of which I could had avoided if I didn't overwork myself and put unnecessary pressure on myself, to keep going, even when I could not. This seemed productive, but it was not effective, I realised that during the exam results. So, during the finals, I didn't pull a single all nighter.

iii) N E W A P P R O A C H
I no longer pull all-nighters till its absolutely necessary, now is not a good example since my sleep cycle is a mess. But, don't stay up all night until absolutely necessary. Also, please take breaks and take care of yourself, get some water and snacks.
Some tips and word of advice:
• plan it out, this goes for anything, but if you are going with the flow, set a timer for breaks, and if you are planning it out, plan breaks too.
• don't go on your phone, at night with no one to stop you, you can go on it for hours, down a spiral, so don't do it.
• if you are like me and want company, or feeling anxious staying up so late all alone, then real time study with me videos are for you buddy!
• do not have too much coffee or energy drinks. I'm guilty of this, but this can have negative effects. Like when you are finally done with work, you won't be able to sleep in peace.
• WATER IS YOUR BEST FRIEND! learned this the hard way too, maybe install a app that reminds you. Or drink water in the breaks! But still be careful, don't get carried away.

I ve never pulled an all nighter...never ever..m just lazy...I just plan out everything already.i hope it will work for u as well :blush:
I feel you. This post really inspired me. Tho it has become my second nature to pull an allnighter for all the wrong reasons I am glad to say that I have found ways to get through it in a healthy manner and without sacrificing my sleep schedule.

Beautiful!! Yeah, during all-nighters I’d spend HOURS on my phone without realizing it... let’s just say I felt brain dead the next day at school :sweat:
