Hey guys! I’m back with some photos and stories of my experience in Cinderella these past few months. This past week of tech week (and kind of the whole show?) was honestly the worst I’ve ever gone through. Despite me not minding being in the ensemble, this ensemble just kinda made me sad. Ensemble isn’t used a whole lot in this show so for most rehearsals that we were called for, over half of us (most of these kids being 12 and under) sat around not being used while they worked with the leads. It just got really frustrating that they were squandering our time.
Anyways, tech week was similar with squandering if time but also, people didn’t know their dances, giving us less time to run cue to cue for tech. Oh, and we never got notes during rehearsals OR tech week. Is that normal? It isn’t for my local CYT. We were expected to improve without any help and I’m pretty sure even on Broadway they give the actors notes. Sorry, I’m just a bit bitter about this show.
So our FIRST cue to cue “run through” was a performance of a school day show (if anyone isn’t aware of what that means, it’s just performing for schools that come). Finally, after each school day show, we got notes. Haven’t gotten notes since other than “good job/great work” and “if you guys impress me with your energy, I’ll reward you with a treat but I’m 98% sure that won’t happen”. Um, rude much? There are EIGHT year olds in this show and people who fight with mental issues (which the director doesn’t like). Also, the director said not everyone is going to get notes because he doesn’t think some people can take it. What about the people who can’t take it when they DON’T get notes? Dang, this wasn’t supposed to be a rant.
On a lighter note, some line drops and mishaps happened: Cinderella fell over a misplaced box (and laughed it off), Lord Pinkelton forgot some of his speech, Prince Topher dropped a line that was a cue for us to start dancing, a stage crew member got stuck onstage and had to hide under the stairs and later crawl out behind the ensemble... overall this show has been quite an adventure. Sorry you didn’t have a completely positive experience, I know what that feels like. I’m sure the show was great! Also—CYT buddies ayye
