One of the best scenes of the first movie of Twilight is the Baseball scene. We all enjoyed watching our vampire family playing and showing off their strength and skills. It was such a fun scene to watch but here's the fun fact—it wasn't fun for the actors while shooting.
So, the scene was shot in Oregon and it was constantly raining there. And since vampires sparkle in the sun they had to only shoot during cloudy weather. And that led to long waits and very unpredictable scheduling. The actors had to stand around in the freezing cold and soaked and uncomfortable between takes.
Nikki Reed wore wigs in the first movie as we know of and her wig wasn't holding up well in the damp conditions. Along with that, makeup would smear or wash off and constant touch-ups were needed. But the most challenging part was that the actors were rigged to wires. They had to run in slow motion while being lifted into the air with the wire tied to them. It was painful and left bruises. Some actors had no stunt experience and were absolutely terrified of the wire stunts.
So, what looks now like a smooth and fun montage was infact shot over many days because of the weather delays, coordination issues and safety concerns.
Costumes were a problem too. Ashley Greene had to pitch in heels while doing ballet-like moves. And the actress reported it was very painful and slippery. Kristen Stewart even said in an interview, “It was freezing. It was raining. And I was like, ‘Why are we doing this right now?’”
But despite the pain and everything the whole scene was iconic and loved. And finally the use of Muse’s "Supermassive Black Hole" made the whole thing more entertaining and lovable.

More than a Game
‘It was just a game,’ Renesmee thought as she sat in the back seat of her father’s Jeep. Her mother, Bella, was in the front enger seat, and her father, Edward, was in the driver’s seat. He started the engine and began driving to the location deep within the forest. Renesmee looked out the window at the ing trees and the steep, slippery slopes as they turned corners along the road. Hope Jacob is fine, she sighed. She knew they were supposed to train, and then, out of the blue, both her parents had decided they were going to play a game—but not just any game. This was the game her mom had once said meant the world to her: one that was both exciting and thrilling, yet had cost her almost everything. Renesmee ed every detail. She still didn’t fully understand how hitting a ball could be so exciting, or why she was running in a semi-octagonal-shaped circle just to avoid being tagged by a ball from teammates.
Renesmee closed her eyes and drifted into a comfortable sleep. After what felt like forever, they finally arrived. Bella looked back at her daughter. She had grown a lot in the past few years. She was nearly fully grown now, and Bella just wanted to help her enjoy some of life’s simpler pleasures. Bella gently touched Renesmee’s leg, shaking it. “Hey, we’re here,” she said softly. Renesmee opened her eyes, revealing her glossy, sleepy brown hues. “Did you rest well?” Bella asked. Renesmee nodded, then sat up and stretched. She opened the car door, slipped out, and let her feet touch the ground before closing the door behind her.
Renesmee’s eyes widened slightly—she had never been here before. Out of all the places her parents had taken her and all the beautiful sights she’d seen in her few short years on earth, nothing had looked more stunning than this. She took in the entire view of the open space surrounded by trees. But these weren’t just any trees. Renesmee ed her mother once mentioning redwoods that grew near the ocean’s edge—tall, magnificent, and among the oldest trees in the world. She couldn’t the names of the others, but the redwoods stood out because of their reddish bark and patterned texture. The air here smelled fresh, crisp, and clear. A deep sense of peace settled over her.
Maybe I can bring Jacob here, Renesmee thought as she began walking with her parents toward the gathering spot, where Rosalie, Emmett, Jasper, Alice, Esme, and Carlisle waited. They all greeted them warmly—but that wasn’t everyone. Renesmee turned at the sound of twigs snapping and bushes rustling. She glanced slightly to the left and saw wolves emerging from the brush. Her eyes locked on the leader stepping forward: brownish-black eyes staring only at her. She knew those eyes anywhere. The wolves shifted into their human forms—Jacob, Seth, Leah, Paul, and Embry. Bella greeted Jacob with a hug, and Edward gave him a light pat on the back. They both turned to Renesmee and smiled.
“Surprise,” Bella said to her daughter, a smirk playing on her lips. She knew Renesmee well—and knew her idea of family was usually limited to just her parents. But if she really thought about it, her family was huge. She had gained so many friends from around the world who had once come to protect her. A few years ago, she had appeared no older than five or six—maybe seven at best. Now, she was nearly as tall as her parents. She had been told she would reach full adulthood by the age of seven and wouldn’t grow or age after that. She’d learned a lot from Nahuel and his aunt, who had stayed for a while to help Renesmee and the Cullens better understand the gifts that awaited her. Like Renesmee, Nahuel was gifted, but he was good at hiding it.
Jacob smirked at Renesmee’s mild embarrassment as he walked over, leaned down, and teased, “What’s wrong, Nessa? Scared we’ll win?” His voice was playful, and Renesmee knew that tone well from training with him and spending time together.
She shoved him playfully and replied in the same teasing tone, “In your dreams would you ever beat us.”
Jacob’s smirk widened. He loved challenging Renesmee, keeping her sharp—especially knowing she’d been a target since the day she was born. But today was about peace between the packs. No one had broken any truces, and as long as Renesmee and Jacob were alive, no one ever would. Their diets were simple, too, and Renesmee had to it—she genuinely enjoyed the meals Jacob and the others made. She could live off either diet and be just fine.
Jacob turned to the others. “Wolves versus Vamps,” Seth blurted out, earning several amused stares. Renesmee laughed—Seth was still young like her. And with the vampire numbers having increased lately, more wolves had begun shifting. Jacob had told Edward it wasn’t normal for them to shift before their fifteenth year, yet lately, some had turned at twelve. It hurt to shift, sure—but now, with no recent threats, there had been no need to patrol. That’s why they’d all agreed to surprise Renesmee with a proper game of baseball, in keeping with Cullen tradition. And now, Jacob and a very select few were allowed to .
“Players to your marks!” Alice called out, breaking the tension that had started to build after Seth’s outburst. First up was Jacob. He held the bat, eyes focused as clouds began forming above. Alice eyed Jacob, noting the confidence in his stance—his grip on the bat firm and well-balanced.
Alice smirked, took a breath, and pitched the ball. It curved slightly, but the moment the bat made , a thunderous crack echoed through the clouds. Renesmee jumped, lips parting in awe as she looked to her father chasing after the ball. Esme, standing beside her, gently placed a hand on her shoulder and smiled warmly. “Surprise, sweetheart,” she said—knowing this was what Edward and Bella wanted their daughter to see and understand. Renesmee smiled, letting her eyes follow Jacob.
He ran fast and hard. Edward caught the ball and threw it to Emmett, who stood ready. Jacob dove, sliding into home base just as Emmett struck his leg with the ball. Bella, acting as referee as always, looked at them both and called it: “Safe.” Jacob grinned and brushed off his pants and shirt before walking over to Renesmee. He leaned in and asked, “Think you can beat that?” His grin was infuriating.
“Careful, your ego is showing,” Renesmee shot back, knowing he was only teasing.
Edward stepped up next, holding the bat and pointing it at Jacob, having overheard his comment to Renesmee. Jacob chuckled, and so did Renesmee, as Edward resumed his stance. With barely any effort, he sent the ball flying across the field and into the trees. Seth, Leah, and Paul rushed off to retrieve it while Jacob lingered beside Renesmee. She had assumed this was just a game—but he hoped she would come to understand its true meaning. It wasn’t just about the thunder each time the bat struck the ball. Even Jacob knew that. And he hoped Renesmee would come to see it too.
Hit after hit, out after out, safe calls, taunts, and teasing banter echoed across the field. Eventually, the score was tied—20 to 20—and Renesmee would decide the final inning. She looked down, unsure. Bella smiled at her and said gently, “Don’t focus on winning. Look around you. Win or lose, we’re all here for you.” Renesmee smiled and nodded, then approached the mound. She swung the bat lightly to find her grip, then positioned it at her side, eyeing Jacob.
“Good luck, Nessa!” he teased with a wink. She shook her head as he pitched the ball. It curved slightly. She swung—nothing. No thunder, no . She groaned and stomped her foot in frustration.
“Jacob! Ugh, throw the ball right!” she yelled. Seth only shrugged.
“It’s okay, Renesmee! You got this!” Rosalie cheered, making Renesmee look over at her godmother’s encouraging smile.
“Yeah, go Nessie!” Jasper added—earning a smack from Bella and a deadly glare from Rosalie. He only smirked and tipped his hat to them before watching Renesmee step back into place.
She missed again. “STRIKE TWO!” Bella called. Renesmee groaned, dropped the bat, and walked away, frustrated. She didn’t notice Jacob following, calling her name.
She sat alone for a moment. Why? Why can’t I hit the damn ball? she thought, staring at the ground. She was so lost in thought that she jumped when someone touched her shoulder. Reacting on instinct, she grabbed them and flipped them over with ease. Her eyes widened when she saw Jacob flat on his back. She covered her mouth, muffling her apologies as he laughed from the ground. He was definitely hurting—but he laughed loudly. Renesmee raised an eyebrow at him.
He sat up, still chuckling, and faced her. She buried her face in her hands, muttering another apology. Jacob pulled her into a quiet hug, rubbing her back and whispering that she was okay. After a minute or two, they walked back together.
Bella and Edward rushed to hug their daughter. “Sorry, Mom. Dad,” she said softly.
They both shook their heads. “No worries, sweetie. If you want to stop, we can,” Bella said gently.
“No! I want to finish. Please?” she asked. They nodded and looked to the others. Everyone returned to their places. Bella stood behind home plate to referee. Jacob stood on the pitcher’s mound. Alice and the rest were scattered across the field.
Taking a deep breath, Renesmee took her stance. She locked eyes with Jacob, who glanced at the others, then back at her. He bent his leg and pitched the ball hard, curving it slightly with a flick of his wrist.
She swung—and this time, thunder cracked louder than before. The ball shot across the field and into the distant trees, descending near the beach line. Renesmee sprinted, rounding the bases. Her heart pounded. She saw home plate in sight—and dove. The ball whipped past her, brushing her arm as Jacob tagged her. Both were breathless. Renesmee looked up to Bella, whose wide eyes had seen it all.
“Safe,” Bella declared.
“Safe?!” Renesmee repeated in disbelief. Jasper and the others ran over to congratulate her. She beamed at Jacob, who was smiling—no petty comments, just pure iration. Edward and Emmett lifted her in the air in celebration. For the first time, she realized: baseball was more than just a game.
As they packed up and headed for the cars, Jacob, moments before shifting, hugged Renesmee and kissed her forehead. “Good job,” he whispered—a kind gesture of praise. In his wolf form, he nuzzled her when she hugged him. She looked into his eyes and knew: he understood. The Cullens’ tradition had meant something deeper. Jacob, Seth, and the wolves left as Renesmee climbed into the car with her parents. Rain began to fall, thunder rolling in the distance.
Renesmee stared out the window, rain dripping and splashing on the glass. She closed her eyes, humming softly. Then she said aloud, “It’s more than a game.”
Edward and Bella smiled at her—and they continued home.
