Hello people who are similarly not dead!
I'm back with another writing piece!
(I've got to live up to the expectations of the adorned authors somehow!)
First off, this is a collaboration with The other half after this one! Finally, and arguably the most important point, is that the art shown here is NOT mine. Instead, it was made by This amazing animator in their undertale anniversary special.
This story is about Alphys and the amalgamations, specifically So Cold. This was always the saddest part of the game for me, and I hope I can convey said emotion through to you. Please enjoy!

amalgamation
noun
the action, process, or result of combining or uniting.
I looked at the small test tube in my hand. I held the power between life and death. I held the will to live, the savour of monsterkind. I held the very fabric of humanity, in my palms. DETERMINATION.
I looked at the fallen monsters, all of them holding as much natural determination as a monster can, yet their bodies could've exploded into a shower of dust at any second. In that moment, I had the key to their survival, and I wasn't going to let it go to waste.
"Hold still" I smiled, as the determination pumped into the monster's veins. They obviously couldn't respond to my speech, as they has fallen down, however it made me feel better about injecting her. I suppose I was a bit afraid, as this was never tested in monsters before. However, I was sure it would work.
After I'd finished with them, I continued my journey from bed to bed, injecting the fallen monsters, until everyone was filled with determination. I looked proudly around the ward, specifically at the monsters. Some of them I've met while they were alive, some that I never got the pleasure to know.
I left the room to get my coffee. It's been a long morning, and I hadn't had anything to drink yet.
Upon returning, I discovered one of the monsters was awake. I sat next to her, for she was one of the monsters I once knew. Her family had brought her in, her son and husband. I knew both of them well, and had hoped that my friend would wake up. I looked at her face, full of pain and fear. I found myself whispering a promise in her ear, saying that I'd help them see her family again, no matter what.
Looking back on that promise, I'm not sure it was for her sake anymore. Perhaps it was just to shield myself from the possibility that things would go wrong. Perhaps it was to trick myself into believing that it hadn't already. But I do know this. It won't ever be fulfilled.
