《 Introduction 》

Howdy! I'm just gonna be showing some art as the title says. :V

I'll be including progress shots, details, and going in-depth to show how I made my drawing. Gonna be honest, but I forgot to take more and I don't wanna go back to that large file. Most people probably aren't feeling up to reading that, but I'm sure there might be some lurker or someone who finds it useful!

I actually recently adopted this style of posting while I was off in another community mainly due to feeling guilty at being mostly posting art and wanting to do something different. Sharing tips and other things is actually pretty fun!

Ever got that feeling that your art isn't good enough?

Welp, I struggled here. I should get on with improving! :O

I haven't posted in a long time, but I've been improving at least. Needless to say, looking at my old posts is rather embarrassing. °^°

《 Progress Shots & Analysis 》

Just gonna say that this drawing isn't really the best, but it still doesn't mean you can't learn anything if something isn't good enough.

First of all, I took the "Pen (Sharp)" brush with a variant of purple to sketch out a head. Starting with a circle and guidelines, then working my way through there. I drew in facial features and erased most of the guidelines.

I flipped the canvas to make sure everything looked decent in perspective and anatomy, so I used the transform tool to correct anything that looks off. I also just realized there was a "Perspective Correction" option when using the transform tool.

I went on to finish the sketch. I actually spent most of the first hour sketching! The struggles are real here! d(QwQ)b

I eventually performed some modifications and lowered the opacity to trace over the sketch using the same brush at a darker color of purple.

I'm not the best at lineart and usually a ton of my drawings end up looking like a cartoon especially with the eyes. e.e)

If your shaky at lineart, use the "Correction" feature or any type of stabilizer if you're using a program that has that. MediBang's "Pen (Sharp)" tool kinda does arrange itself from what I noticed.

After the lineart, I start filling in with light shades of colors. You'll find out why soon enough.

I set my bucket to expand by 1 pixel, usually filling in the canvas. You might find some unfilled areas so take a brush to fix that. Some can go unnoticed, but you can temporarily darken your colors to see that.

Each color is put at a different layer and grouped into a folder.

Once I'm finished coloring, I add another layer above one of the color layers and then use the "Clipping" layer option.

I take my "Watercolor (Wet)" brush set at purple for shading. To be honest, I didn't know what I was going with so I went all random (lol the neck though). Still kept in mind that I need to base it off of the light source's location.

I start to lower the opacity and make a few adjustments. I usually use "Multiply" when it comes to this as a blending mode. I then duplicate the shading layer and arrange it into a different hue, saturation, and brightness. That layer is then blurred using "Gaussian Blur" from at least 5 or below in strength.

A gradient with the same color as the original shading is put on top and then adjusted to look alright.

Once again, the shading is adjusted to look better. I added in some blurred yellows at the end of the shading with the blending mode "Overlay." I also added in a light gradient with "Overlay."

At this point, I forgot to take more progress shots.

I kept going till the final product came! :D

I used a bunch of gradients, blending modes, and all that.

I created a background using the shape tools because I'm lazy and I've been doing that a lot over the weekend. I eventually merged the background together and added effects to it with duplications on different blending modes. I also duplicated another, enlarged and moved it, and set it to "Hard Light" as the blending mode. There's another where I moved it and then set it to "Burn."

Chara was merged and duplicated. The duplicates were set on "Multiply" (Which was blurred by one pixel) and "Overlay" with opacities lowered. Gradients set to "Overlay" were added in. I also adding in an extra shadow and extra lighting to top it all off!

Got that there signature. :P

Used a regular "Pen" and set my correction high because I'm as bad as Jerry when it comes to things like this. >.>

Used a bucket, magic wand, and colored it to fit in with the drawing's colors.

《 Extra Tips 》

• Prioritize Colors! - Colors are pretty important. Despite the lineart, I can say that the colors helped boost up the drawing and most of the time was spent on that.

I started out with pale colors. The shading started with blue and purple, but was adjusted to look better. Use gradients and blending modes to help!

• Tools - Put them to good use! If you're unfamiliar with your tools, try messing around, but observe too. If you find out their uses, it'll definitely be helpful in due time if that tool does what you want.

Example: Although I was overly reliant on this, the blending modes helped a bunch. I learned how to use them by looking at YouTube tutorials, speedpaints, and experimenting by myself.

• Go With the Flow! - During my time drawing this, I found myself not thinking too much. Sometimes over thinking and getting frustrated over one thing can mess up your art! Try to calm down and find out ways you could fix that. Otherwise, just ignore it. Sometimes unintentional actions can create unintentionally great things! :D

Just don't get to chill, though. Otherwise you might skip over something important.

I wonder what's been going on around here. Haven't been looking here for a long time. Just thought that I should come by and make a post despite my interest kinda fell as time ed, I still love UT.
