Holy moly I finished a story-

Excuse my motivation while it fails to work :D

(ALSO BIG THANKS TO AMINO FOR DELETING THIS DRAFT WHEN I WAS ALMOST DONE AND MAKING ME REDO THE BLOG-)

Anyway, it's another songfic, this time for the gay ass fish and her waifu. I fell in love with the original version of Water by Andrew Huang, the lyrics just screamed Alphyne to me. Then I found this version and it set the scene perfectly for me, giving me the idea for what kind of mood and setting I wanted.

It was gonna be longer but I ended up liking this ending so lols rip original plan

So yeah. Have at thee

How much could one person give for others?

Their soul? Their heart? Their life?

Was there anything more a single, solemn person could throw into hell to lift others towards heaven?

Atop a great mound of dirt stood an aquatic warrior built of infamous determination and muscle. Her hair was pulled tight into a practical ponytail, hanging quietly between her shoulder blades, her knee gently bent as she looked out across the land, her broad shoulders and pointed spear accenting her powerful silhouette against the sunrise.

She curled her fingers tightly around the familiar shaft of her weapon, her chin slowly raising as she held her head high.

This was what five years of war had lead her to, the end of the second monster vs human bloodbath, a final battle doomed to fertilise the soil with dust and decay alike. A characteristic grin broke across her crooked teeth, her eye glittering as it surveyed the soon to be battleground below.

Thirty more minutes. Half an hour until the horns were blown and all hell broke loose.

Rays of gold broke through the morning fog, sheening her blue scales with thin films of gold. She felt the gentle warmth against her skin, enjoying the sensation it gave her, particularly around the jagged edges of her battle scars where the heat felt painfully searing. Perhaps it was a masochistic thing to enjoy, but it reminded her of all she’d suffered, all she’d survived, all she was destined to power through again and again until her duty was fulfilled.

Her confident expression solidified in the pale light of dawn while her tired lover struggled up the hill to meet her.

Sink or swim again… I'll give you my hand

She looked so strong.

Emotionally, physically, mentally, everything the reptile was not.

Her claws dug holes in the mud below as she grasped the mound, hauling herself up towards her ever powerful paramour. The scientist’s yellow scales held dirt and red remnants of wounds between them, unfortunate effects of poor hygiene facilities. Her eyes felt rough and dry from sleep deprivation, her muscles aching, her expression weary. She barely had the energy to cry anymore.

“Undyne…”

Her voice was frail and fragile, broken and brittle. She didn’t have to say anything else, the warrior taking her cue to move her spear aside and take the smaller monster under her arm. She held her in her strong grip, her smooth scales against the reptile’s rough ones.

Words were never strong enough. Hell couldn’t describe what they’d been through together, love couldn’t describe what they felt for each other. It was an endless struggle to express all they held within while the grass moved gently against their feet in the soft breeze and the cooling sensation it provided rippled across their cheeks.

'Til we reach the end, there's never dry land...

“Guess this is it, huh?”

It felt so ludicrously calm, a simple statement spoken by the warrior, her casual tone such a blunt contradiction to everything running through the smaller one’s head.

“I-It?” She repeated, resting her head against the taller’s torso. It was comforting to feel her still breathing, her muscles firm, her scent of determination and sweat soothing to her senses.

“Yeah… It! Y’know, the part where we battle heroically and defeat the enemy against all odds to win the war? That!”

Her naturally rough voice picked up here and there to give her a calm, humorous tone, the corner of her lips lifting in a smirk.

“Y-Yeah… That…”

The warrior picked up on her less than confident tone and finally tore her gaze from the golden sunrise to look at her. Her eye softened, her heart lifting, her stomach twisting. Even now she could barely get over how lucky she was. She knelt in the soft mud before her, feeling the cold damp soak into her faded jeans. Now they were at the same height, she took the opportunity to place a hand on her cheek.

“C’mon now.” A grin danced on her scarred face. “Do ya think I’m lyin’ or somethin’?”

We'll catch a glimpse of light

“I th-think…” The reptile looked away, a salted tear crawling from her eye.

When the stars are out tonight

“... that you’re not invincible, Dy…”

We can make it there, we can make it all alright

The warrior snorted softly. Her lips closed over her yellow dentiture, still curved in a confident yet slightly more serious manner. Tilting her head ever so slightly, she gazed at her anxious lover with a tenderness very few people saw from her. “I know, Alph…. But I’m damn near close to it.”

Might drift until we die

The reptile swallowed in an attempt to moisten her dry throat.

And reflect that lonely sky

“Maybe… But there’s a ch-chance…. And you-...”

But I'm fine if I just have you by my side

“... I’m scared you won’t know when to give up.”

°

I made you a promise

Her spear fell to the ground with a dull thud against the mud, freeing up her left hand to gently cup the reptile’s other cheek and move her gaze to meet her own. “Hey. Listen to me.” She spoke, prompted by the smaller’s closed eyes which opened to reveal her chocolate brown stare.

I'll keep though we are just

“You’re right… I have absolutely no intention of giving up. And I know what you’ll say, you’re gonna say that I’m too naive and that I have to be more realistic… But I AM being realistic. We WILL win this battle, we WILL win this war, and you can damn well bet your ass we’ll come outta it stronger.” Her grin returned in all its over-confident glory. “And y’know what’ll happen then? When we’ve built a new kingdom and we’re basking in our victory? Y’know what’ll happen...?”

Two bodies of water….

“... I’m gonna marry ya, Alph.”

°

The words rang in the smaller’s ears, a short breath leaving her, her tail curling around her legs while her blood began flowing stronger than ever. Heat crept across her cheeks under her beloved’s palms, her eyes lost in the taller’s intensely deep pupil. A small, shaky giggle escaped from her lips despite her attempt to hold it back.

In that moment, mere minutes left of the calm before the storm, things felt as fresh and jovial as they had years ago underneath their humble mountain.

Noting that she was lost for words, the warrior let out a rough chuckle and repeated her promise to solidify it.

“I’m gonna marry ya!”

She pulled more giggles from her lover, so perfectly content to exist together, their final moments of peace before the bloodshed started up again. The warrior’s eyes briefly flicked to the dirt lining her nails before she focussed on the reptile again, her voice softening. “I only need ya to agree and I’ll have everything I could possibly want to strive for.”

Cold as ice again, you won't come around

“D-Do you seriously think I’m gonna say no?” The reptile whispered in response, quivering slightly in her battered and thin garments.

“Fuhuhuhu!” An ever characteristic laugh erupted from the taller as she scooped her tiny love into her arms, lifting her off the ground as she rose to full height. The scientist felt the tip of her tail lightly brushing the fertile ground below before she curled it around the muscular waist of her love for added . She allowed it to rest in the soft curve of her lower back as she positioned her arms around her neck, both meeting each other’s lips in a mutual display of affection.

It had never felt sweeter, the possibility of this being their last intimate exchange lingering above them and driving their ion further while blissfully oblivious wildlife chattered and chirped the soundtrack to their scene. Loose pollen danced over their shoulders and pale gold sunlight rested against their heads.

Of all the sunrises they’d lived through together, this was simultaneously the darkest and the brightest, an angel bathed in blood.

I can be a friend, but you want to drown

Shadows against the brilliant light, their silhouettes eventually parted, their heads lowering onto each other’s shoulders in search of comforting fulcrum. Their minds were settled, if only for a minute or two. Blank echoes of previous struggles retreated to dungeons hidden in the tenebros corners of their thoughts.

Blood flowed, lungs breathed, neurons fired.

They were still alive.

Slowly, the reptile trailed a discoloured claw along a pale scar wrapped around the warrior’s bicep. Her lashes gently grazed the silt collected in the tiny grooves of her glasses as she blinked calmly, relishing the moisture pulling together the cracks in her dry eyes. She chose not to open them again, vaguely drifting between tired slumber and vague awareness.

In the meantime, her doxy turned her gaze back to the ever stunning display of woozy pinks and warm auburns. These colours merely clung to the edges of the horizon now, morning blue engulfing the vast stretch above. She exhaled deeply. The time had almost come.

“Hey Alph… You wanna come help me put my armour on? I think I’m cuttin’ it a bit short…”

We'll catch a glimpse of light

The scientist opened her eyes once more to take in her succoring smile.

When the stars are out tonight

“O-Of course…” Her voice remained tired, yet soothed.

We can make it there, we can make it all alright

In response, the taller allowed her to slip from her hold and plant her feet back on the soft pat of mud beneath them. She kept her arms firmly around her, resting her yellow chin against her chest as they continued to gaze softly at each other. Movement had begun below.

Might drift until we die

The warrior’s arm moved to pick up her discarded spear again, keeping the other around her love’s shoulders.

And reflect that lonely sky

It felt as though they could never pry their scales off one another.

But I'm fine if I just have you by my side

But they had to, eventually.

°

I made you a promise

Fingers intertwined and locked themselves together, warming the dips between them with the blood which flowed within. Nature rustled with the disturbance of impending battle, both monster and human rallying themselves to begin the battle.

I'll keep though we are just

Here, at the end, all hope they had left boiled in their souls and burrowed into their muscles to power their weapons. Fortitude resonated in the warrior’s voice. “You mean the world to me, Alph… I’m gonna come back to ya. I promise.”

Two bodies of water...

“... I know, Dy.”
