Chapter 3: Into the Mid-Verse.

The search felt like hours, and was uninterrupted surprisingly. Though he eventually found it, an island which gateways were cracked, broken, and all together just left in ruin. The purple archway was surrounded by sand, and a few bones were strewn across the outside. The adventure was truly about to begin, as Dream had never seen such a place like this before. Plenty of AU's, but a world between worlds was a bit of an odd concept. He found it odd that Ink had never brought it up before, but what can someone say about a place that neither the creator nor destroyer can enter.

He truly wondered why that was, the skeleton bent down and let some of the sand run through his boney fingers. What about this place was special? What made this 'Mid-Verse' keep out the two most powerful beings in the multiverse? The negative readings of this place were strong, something his brother could easily feed off of, but a glimpse of hope was visible. Whatever that hope was, well it was sure to be found in time. Though it meant the golden skeleton could actually enter this place, a place that was filled with nothing but negative energy was something he'd never be able to enter, or save. Though, even with a sliver of hope he would be able to make his way in with ease. "Well, what could possibly go wrong, right? I'm sure whatever it is, I'm probably more than capable of helping!"

The skeleton was confident, to say the least. Dream was definitely excited for his new adventure, to find out more about himself than even he knew. Which he thought was a lot, but he wasn't too sure what he could be missing. Clearly from that powerful arrow he unleashed on his nightmarish brother, it was bound to be something. He closed in on the gateway, taking one final look at his surroundings. This was it, he wasn't sure how long he would be gone, but he wanted to take it all in before leaving. With a smile upon his face, the skeleton step into the lit archway, making his way into the unexplored world.

Behind him, the archways doors closed, no one else was getting in it would seem. This was his adventure, and his alone. Though that didn't stop a nightmarish beast from showing its way up to the door. Nightmare had been following behind, but now had no way of entering. This new place seemed to work differently, and in that he was too slow. With Dream in there he couldn't physically entered. This made the beast mad, but he needed to focus more on finding a way to stop his shining brother. The beast sat there at the door, he had to think. He needed a way to tap into the universe without actually entering, which was easier said than done. But evil usually finds its ways, and in a place filled with so many negative emotions, might be easier than normal.

Falling, that was the first thing the golden skeleton noticed. He was falling, and at great speeds. This universe didn't place him gracefully on the floor as many did, no he was falling from high up in the sky, and it was clear an impact like this could be deadly if he didn't land it correctly. The skeleton flailed about, trying to get himself in a good position. He was very panicked, but he needed to focus, if he didn't focus he could die and all of this would have been for nothing. Dream positioned himself for impact, his arms close to his body, and one leg stuck out. He was going to break it, he knew he was going to break it. He just needed to prepare for the amount of pain.

It didn't take too long before a loud snap could be heard in the area, he had been fallen fast. Like he had guessed his leg was snapped in the ankle, and in the knee. His reasoning was simple, he could heal somewhat. Though when he tried he realized his magic didn't work, nor did his bow. Anything magical he tried nothing was happening. Now he panicked, this place took the magic out of people. There was no magic here, none that he could notice. He wasn't in touch with his own soul, not being able to even see that. In pain, sitting on the ground, he had now realized why the creator and destroyer couldn't enter... they were far too magical to have it stripped from them, so they just were banished from this place.

The golden skeleton stood on one leg, his other limping beside it. He had to get a good look at his surroundings. It was dark, and murky. The skeleton had found himself in a swamp, and one with a nasty stench too. Dream tried his hand at walking, and immediately winced in pain, the fall had done a real number on the poor skeleton. Did anyone live here? It was something he truly wondered, though he did see simple wild life like frogs and some dragon flies. The water in the swamp didn't seem like it was in any way drinkable. Not that skeletons needed to, but merely for the fact that if it didn't look drinkable that it wouldn't be good to use for anything else.

The negative feeling of this world fell heavy on the positive emotion skeletons shoulders. It was horrible, that alone made him think that someone had to be in this world somewhere. Though how could he even find people who were living, it was something that puzzled him deeply. He would need to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible. Whoever or whatever lived here needed his help, and maybe they could help him find out more about himself and heal heal him in return.

It was hard to navigate this dark swamp, mostly because of his leg, but also because of his impaired vision. The skeleton simply couldn't see that far out, and there wasn't any signs of civilization anywhere. 'Perhaps that's a good thing though' Dream thought to himself, not actually knowing if all the locals would be friendly or not. Which is also why he was not going to call out for help. This place felt deranged, and definitely not right. Then, he heard it...

A snap of a tree branch, in was faint, but closer than he would like it to be. Something, or someone, was following him. The skeleton started to limp a bit faster into the swamp until he heard it again, another snap. This one however came from the completely opposite side of the other. Dream was basically sprinting on a broken leg now, horrible for it, but fight or flight had kicked in. Without his magic he had no choice but to run deeper into the darkness. Though that definitely set whatever was watching him off.

The trees started to rustle, and the air got heavy. Dozens of glowing eyes could be seen from the tree lines, and an unfamiliar type of creature jumping from tree to tree could be seen. Though whatever it was truly he couldn't tell from down at this angle, he needed to keep up his pace without tripping. Though his running started to cause him to pant heavily, the swamp around him shook as whatever type of creatures followed him.

It was all such a blur, he kept running and running. The creatures gave haste, but the last thing the poor skeleton felt was a thud on the back of his skull, as he fell to the floor. Darkness engulfed his vision as he was now unconscious. The creatures had gotten what they wanted, the had gotten their prize from the hunt. They had won, and Dream had fallen to them. It was only a matter of time until he found out if they were going to end it all.

So! It's been awhile hasn't it? Probably a lot longer than I planned, but hey at least I'm back. Not too sure why I dropped this story, I really have a lot more planned for it, might need to end up making a wiki if I post too much. But hey, I'm sure we'll see where it all goes. After all the future is a mystery. Hope you all enjoy the new concept I came up with, I have a lot more adventures planned for this new world, so be on the lookout for more! Hope you have a nice day y'all!
