Galatale Challenge Week 1

Hello people of the Undertale world! My name is Guy (Wilhelm is my oc, and Guy is my nickname), and this is my poem for the writing challenge of Galatale. Now, before we begin, I just wanna say a few things!:

A little backstory about me

I’m a 19 year old gamer who loves playing video games and diving into the lore of them. It’s fun to think about certain elements in a game, and it always makes me curious as to what or why things are happening in the world. I started playing Undertale back in the Summer of 2017, and I gotta say it’s one of my favorite games to date. The game is so much fun, and it has a lot of cool elements that even triple A games don’t even have. One thing I praise this game for is the beautiful soundtrack that it has. There’s not a single song in Undertale that I don’t like, and sometimes I even catch myself humming one or two themes from the game. Anyways, this is my first post ever created. I’m not much of a blogger, but I ended up entering the contest because I wanted to take my partner on a date to this event. I’ve been on this amino for a long time, but just recently decided to dedicate more time here. It’s really the only place I go to now, as other aminos have either lost my interest or got way too toxic for me to stay in. Since then, I’ve made so many awesome friends and interacted with a lot of cool group chats. Every time I , there’s always something that catches my attention. Whether it’s art made by the lovely people of this amino, or some silly topic from a group chat, I’m always finding awesome stuff here!

How did I meet my date?

I met my date, Dragon, back on a little app known as Geeking. I’m sure many people are familiar with this app as I have seen a ton of references to Amino on that app( Fun fact: I found out about Amino because someone referenced it in a public post!). Anyways I was scrolling through the list of posts trying to find someone who was down to roleplay since I haven’t had a good one in months. So as I went through the list, I noticed a post from Dragon, (Can’t recall what it was, but it was Undertale related) and thought “Hey! Maybe I could try out an Undertale roleplay with them.” Thus I messaged this stranger, and thought of a very interesting idea for our Undertale roleplay. At first, I thought of Dragon as a roleplay partner and friend, but as time went on we started getting closer and closer. We gave out some basic info on each other like name, hobbies, favorite colors, etc. we do phone calls once in a while, and have so much fun talking about the world around us. They’re such an amazing friend, and I cherish our friendship deeply! August will mark the first year of our amazing friendship!

Without further ado, here’s my poem for the challenge!:

Here I am going to Galatale with my date.

It’s gonna be so much fun, and I cannot wait.

This will be my first time being at this Gala event.

I’m just glad I don’t have to pay a cent.

My date and I decided to make some art of each other,

But drawing is difficult, especially with my annoying brother.

I hope I don’t make any major mistakes.

Guess I’ll take a break with some Frosted Flakes.

Now I’m working on my poem for this contest.

I may not be good at writing, but I will try my best.

Coming up with things to say is so tough,

But to make up for it, I promise to write enough.

Finished with my poem, I decided to go online,

When my friend sent me a chat request, which was fine.

The request was for a Galatale chat.

To which I decided to in on that.

With so many friendly people all around,

Each and every one of them has an interesting sound.

There is just so many nice people to meet,

That I may not be able to hold onto my seat.

It stinks that Gala’s end will soon be near.

I’m having so much fun being here.

At least I shall have no fear,

Because Gala will return again next year.

So that was my lovely little poem! As short as it is, it did take me a few hours to come up with what to put down,( reason why is at the bottom of the post!). I do work a busy schedule at work, mostly taking up my entire day. Depending on where they put me, I usually don’t have any sort of access to amino or online thanks to the horrible internet, but whenever I can I pull out the notepad on my phone and type in some ideas for the poem. It is, however, difficult to do so since this job does require constant awareness , and looking at a phone while figuring out what to put doesn’t help Haha! Anyways, my poem talks about how I’m experiencing Galatale so far, and I must say it’s super fun!

But wait! There’s more!!

At the beginning of the week, my date and I decided to do this cute little collaboration of our personas together. The adorable part was that we were gonna do each other’s persona rather than us doing our own. As much as I love this idea, I must say it was a big challenge for me to complete. I draw from time to time, but this was the first time I was tasked with delivering something special and important.

Artwork process

This artwork took me around 10 hours to complete as a whole, with about 8 hours being dedicated to sketching the whole peace. I know it sounds like a lot for what is really there, but I’m not a good drawer or artist. I’m used to quick drawings and such, so completing the art felt like uncharted territory to me. Several of my friends gave me some drawing tips on how to properly create a head to make it look more natural and simple. I had to switch to another art style in order to put up a piece that I’d be comfortable with, and although I still think I need tons of improvement on my art, I believe this is one of my best works. Yeah it is simple, but I spent more time figuring out how to put this together than any of the other art pieces I’ve done. I used a standard pencil to sketch a few parts, specifically the head, and then penciled out the main product carefully. After creating the base, it was time to use a black gelpen to trace out the drawing and make it pop. Lastly, all that was left was to color in the art. So I used some standard color pencils to fill it in. All in all, I think I did a good job at presenting Dragon’s persona, even though I still feel like I failed at a few parts here and there.

I also must say their art of my persona was outstanding. I was just blown away by how amazing it looked! Definitely the best art of my persona I’ve ever gotten!^^

Personal thought on the challenge

I had a blast working on this, but there is something I feel like I should address. Keep in mind this is my personal opinion, and feel free to disagree^^. To me and my date, we just didn’t really find the challenge to have an appropriate topic to write about. It’s not bad in any way, but we feel as though this topic was put in way too early for the Gala challenges. People like me who are new to this whole event can’t find much inspiration in the topic if we barely experienced it for ourselves. It’s like asking me what I thought of the Incredibles 2 when I only saw the trailer. Sure I can give you a small description of what I think, but it’s gonna be a lot harder to write down more if I didn’t get to experience the movie. I know you’ll ask, “Well, why didn’t you both pick another challenge option?” Well it was really the only topic that we could’ve done, as we felt like we wouldn’t perform any good with the other options. This is by no mean attacking the challenge or host and saying “This is a horrible topic! I hate it!”. All I’m saying is that maybe this could’ve been a final week challenge as then I could write more about my experience and how I felt about Galatale. Nonetheless, I had a great time working on this challenge!
