Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite game of all-time. Everything about this game-

*besides the camera and some of the areas that require motion controls don't control all that well*

-I love. Now, I have written a review of this game in the past on my brotha collab. So I'm covering the game again. Call me unoriginal! I don't need your approval anyway! :triumph:

Let's start this blog off with the plot, which shouldn't take that long to discuss considering this is a Mario game. Basically, Mario heads over to a festival and as soon as he arrives Bowser comes in with a U.F.O of all things and rips Peach's castle from the ground and brings it into space. woAh

It's more than most mainline Mario games, at least. If I'm honest, I really liked the story. It knows it's Mario and doesn't have to go big, but they still give a good explanation as to why Mario is zooming around space in the first place. Obviously not a selling point, but still.

Alright, what's next on the list...OH! The level design, the thing that makes a platformer a platformer. The thing that makes or breaks a game of this kind. no pressure tho maro this is a revew srry if it's scary

But basically, it's great, the level design is great. There are a few meh levels, like the level where you and a g i g a n t i c boo must race for a power star. And your only way of controlling plumber boi is pulling him towards these blue stars, via motion controls which can be annoying, but besides that the levels are very nice. But let's go over a few of the noteworthy levels, shall we? Seriously should we I'm not sure-

Honeyhive Galaxy/Gold Leaf Galaxy

I'll get to the reason I group these two together in a second.

Honeyhive Galaxy is definitely the most iconic level from the game. This is one of the first levels, and you already get weird shit...BEES!! :honeybee: ...but who cares, all anyone cares about - including myself - is the queen bees ass.

In all seriousness, this level sets a president for what's to come, with it's charming graphics, characters, music, and platforming. Plus Mario looks cute in his little bee outfit :weary: :ok_hand: :sweat_drops:

Gold Leaf Galaxy

The reason I group these two together is because the first level in this galaxy is a Autumn re-skin of level one in the aforementioned Honeyhive Galaxy. But the levels that follow are waaay better than Honeyhive, as it's waaay more creative, and uses plenty of different obstacles, and just overall sets itself apart from the other galaxies far better than Honeyhive. It also looks a hell of a lot better now that they switched over to Autumn, like mentioned before.

Space Junk Galaxy

Another iconic level from Galaxy is Space Junk Galaxy. The main reason I love this galaxy is because it combines everything I love about Super Mario Galaxy into one. The motion controls work perfectly and don't feel forced, the camera problems (which I'll get to soon) aren't really prevalent, as the camera doesn't ever need to be messed with. They take so many ideas and put them together, and it just flows. You have the blue star things I mentioned didn't work all too well on the race against g i g a n t i c boo, but here it works because you don't feel rushed and there's not as many obstacles. Which, I feel is better for motion controls.

Gateway Galaxy

I'm planning on writing a blog about good tutorial levels, so I won't go too in-depth, but this level is really good at teaching the player how to play. You start chasing a rabbit around a spherical planet (makes sense), which introduces the player to that mechanic. This galaxy also introduces blue s, star pieces, black holes, a few enemy types aaaaaannndddd, sexy waifu Rosalina :heart_eyes:

On the topic of Rosalina, she's a great addiction to this game, and to my hidden SD card I keep for when I'm alone. She has an interesting backstory as to how she left earth, and it's just nice having another character around when Peach is gone. You know what, Peach can stay with Bowser, I'll keep Rosalina :eyes:

You know what I love? Power ups! Speaking of power-ups Super Mario Galaxy has a lot of them! Let's talk about those power-ups! :smiley:

The power-ups are alright. They're nothing special. I've already talked about the bee power-up a little, but what does it actually do? You can fly until your stamina runs out. What about the fire and ice power-ups? They shoot fire balls or ice balls. Cool. And uh, who cares?

a few more things.

Let's just start with the camera. Since you play this game with a Wiimote and Nunchuck, in order to change the position of the camera, you use the d-pad. It works, sure. I can live with that. But the big problem with the camera is the player rarely has control over the damn thing. And when you can control it, it's very small movements. That's basically my only problem with the game.

Earlier I mentioned that one g i g a n t i c boo you have to race, and how I felt the motion controls weren't fit for something like that. Well there is another level similar to that, but instead of racing you must collect 100 purple coins in a minute.

THIS SHIT IS SO HARD

I don't mind a challenge but this was so hard the first time around. When I went back to it, it was a piece of Peach's cake, but damn. When I originally played through this shit I almost broke my Wiimote, haha.

Graphics

Looks beautiful. Every galaxy is full of color and life, mixed with a backdrop of an empty black void we call space...or something like that. Looks lit af that's all I know :fire: :100:

The design of a majority of the enemies is the same from past games, but there are a few new enemies. The textures all look fine, but if you get too close...ehhhhh not so much, but it works just fine. Everything looks fine. Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine. That's the best word to describe it.

Music/Audio

Now for the best part of the game, the soundtrack. I don't even know where to start, there's so many good tracks. Now I'm no Anthony Fantano, I don't even know how to review music. So instead I'm just gonna link a playlist of the *fire emoji fire emoji fire emoji* tracks. Let's ah go xD
