The Intro

Evolution is a slow process, taking thousands of years for the smallest of changes to occur. Sometimes, however, every few millennia, evolution leaps ahead.

And so the homo-sapien became homo-superior.

Mutants have been around for almost as long as humans have, however they began to attract public attention in the 1960s. It seemed the gene that caused the mutations, known as the ‘X-Gene’, experienced somewhat of a boom.

Many children would discover upon adolescence they were not ‘normal.’ This was often traumatic, depending on the mutant’s ability, as being unable to control their powers could have lead to harming someone close to them. Or, if their mutation changed their appearance, making them unable to as human, they could have faced discrimination and violence from others.

Some parents began to fear their own children, and tensions were rising as humans began to feel increasingly unsafe with a superhuman population living among them.

Public opinion on mutants varies, with some believing they are humans like everybody else and deserve to be treated fairly as such. Many more fear and hate mutants, waiting for the day they overtake the human race.

With so much unknown about mutant-kind, there are not many places one can be safe and find companionship. And so the greatest telepath the world has ever seen, Charles Xavier, created his school: Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Devoted to the teaching, training, and safeguarding of young mutants. It also serves as the base for the aptly named X-Men. Mutant heroes that protect and work with humans rather than against them.

It is here mutants grow their abilities, make friends with others like themselves, and train to be heroes.

Over time this school has grown and switched heasters several times, but one thing will always stay the same: it will be a safe place for young mutants.

The Plot

It is now 1997 and public opinion on mutants has been plummeting recently due to a series of attacks on cities by radicals calling themselves ‘Legion’. believe humans inferior to themselves, and would see them wiped out. Not much is known of Legion other than they have considerable numbers, with no mutant under a level 3 in their ranks.

The students at Xavier’s School, now known as the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, believe themselves to be safe. They keep up with the news but life goes on. There is much for the students to still learn, both about the world and themselves. The heads of the school, Wolverine and Kitty Pryde, are not naive though, and have put more of a stress on the training of the students to use their abilities. They hope they won’t have to. There is peace, for now.

New laws being debated in government due to the appearance of Legion as well as the revival of the Sentinel program could end that peace however, and all mutants need to be ready. For it could be the start of a war.

2. While this is a roleplay about mutants and heroes, every hero, no matter how great, has a weakness. Keep this in mind when creating your character(s). Being overpowered is boring anyway, where’s the fun in it?
