Chaos is the state utter confusion, a confused mass or mixture. Chaos magick is misunderstood it's not dark harmful magick it's random and nonlinear, it's unknown which is why people tend to fear it.
Basically chaos magick is a system for where you use different parts of different paths. Chaos magick grew out of a desire to strip away beliefs, attitudes, and moral ethics leaving behind techniques for effective change. Chaos magick emerged in England in the 1970s when brittish occultism was dominated by Wicca and Thelema. Peter Caroll once said, " Magic will not free itself from occultism until we have strangled the last astrologer with the guts of the last spiritual master." 1978 was a pivotal year in chaos magick.
With the publication of 2 books and the establishment of the illuminates of thanateros (IOT), the first chaos magick organization. Even though Peter Caroll and Ray Spearman are considered founders of chaos magic, Aleister Crowley was a marginal yet early and ongoing influence particularly for his syncretic approach and emphasis on experimentation and deconditioning. Chaos magic emerged by Austin Osman Spare, " Of name it has no name, to designate. I call it Kia I dare not claim it as myself. The Kia which can be conceivable ideas, is not the eternal Kia, which burns up all belief but is the archetype of "self" the slavery of mortality."
In the chaotic system of belief Kia is a physical concept of universal consciousness or unity. Chaos is the force which has caused life to evolve itself out of dust and is currently most concentrate Manifest in the human lifeforce,or Kia, where it is the source of consciousness. To the extent that can be Kia can become one with chaos it can extend will and perspective into the universe to accomplish magick. I realize this is confusing but this is as simple as I can put this subject.
In chaos magick we use gnosis. Which is an altered state of mind in where a person's mind is focus on one goal or purpose and l other thoughts are cast out. It comes from the common Greek noun for gňosis.
Gnosis is any form of deep meditative state induced to perform magick usually in rituals. Inhibitory gnosis is induced by deep and repetitive breaths and cleaning the mind from anything and everything cluttering it. Chaotes, or chaos magick practitioners, believe if you believe it it is true to you. Keep in mind these have exceptions such as practicing closed practices. Ecstatic gnosis is reached through intense arousal aimed to be reached sexual excitement, intense emotions, chanting, drumming, dancing, skydiving, and bungee jumping. Indifferent vacuity is where you see your intended spell has already happened while keeping your mind still. Indifferent means no interest and vacuity means lack of thought.
Synchromystisism is the act of realizing meaningful coincidences in the seemingly mundane with mystical or esoteric significance. Described as existing on the border of areas ready considered bordered. A form of post modern animism that combines the notion of meaningful coincidences with the quest for the divine or self actualization through experience of the divine.

Sigils are perhaps the most popular thing in chaos magick. Sigiks help you achieve goals and co create your reality. A sigil is a symbol you create with the intention of changing your reality in accordance with your will. All sigils are encoded with a specific purpose like for protection, attracting a romantic partner, etc. Sigils were used in the past to symbolize and conjure up spirits, these days they are used to Manifest. As chaotes we use belief as a tool like we use wands and athames. If you believe something in that moment, it is true within reason.
