Hey guys, I've seen a few posts on this Amino about where to start in the big world of Wicca. I'm very new to this path myself, I'd still class myself as a beginner but I thought by sharing some information maybe I can help inspire others on their journey. 🌙 :star:

Wicca is very flowy, you can customise your practise a lot. It sounded very daunting to me at first but now I adore being able to flow into whatever resonates with me the most.

ALTAR

So the first thing I did was put together my

altar. Some witches prefer to have several, or even mini ones to take with them when leaving the house. Box altars are also handy because they can be tucked away and easily brought out when you need to. Get creative with your altars there is no wrong or right way to set them up, they are a reflection of you and your intent.

I set mine up on a spare antique cabinet. I layed an altar cloth over it (unused table cloth) and placed a vase of fresh roses. I gathered all my crystals that had previously been cleansed and placed them in a crystal bowl in the centre. I also added a little crystal tea light candle holder with candle. It's evolved since then but it was perfectly inspiring to begin with.

I did have my tarrot cards on there but have since removed them as I'm not familiar with them at all.

BOOK OF SHADOWS

Now a book of shadows is such a personal and important thing to most witches and wiccans. It's a personal journal with all your gathered information. Most of the time, a book of shadows is carefully planned out with a lot of detail and personalisation. It doesn't have to be though, I wouldn't call my journal a book of shadows as it's raw, unedited and not very planned out.

SUPPLY'S

Incense.

I had never burned incense before, my sister has often used them in her home and I've always found them overpowering and unpleasant, but I'm here to learn right?

I went down to a cheap dollar store and checked out what they had. I strayed away from incense named like 'harmony' or 'calmness' as I wanted an authentic smell. I did a quick google search and decided Sandlewood would be nice as it's a earthy scent extracted from tree bark. I also grabbed some White Sage incense as well. I was not dissapointed, I thoroughly enjoyed both these scents and was plensently surprised to find my family enjoyed having them lit as well. So it was a win win.

~Incense is great for setting the tone and influencing your energy and vibrations. It's also a representation of the element AIR and because it burns it also creates ENERGY so you can use it for your spell casting.

Candles

So far I have only used white unscented candles. White is a neutral colour so it can be used to represent any colour. It also represents the Goddess, purity, higher-self and peace, (just to name a few). So I find them suitable for my intent. Other colours represent different elements and representations so make sure you are selecting the right colour to match your intent. You can also rub oil into an unscented candle if you have a particular scent but I have not yet tried this method.

Crystals

I already have an assortment of stones and crystals, I started collecting them when I was a child. If you don't have any crystals and are wanting to purchase some then I reccomend..

Amethyst - Amethyst is a stone of spiritual protection and purification, cleansing one's energy field of negative influences and attachments, and creating a resonant shield of spiritual Light around the body. It acts as a barrier against lower energies, psychic attack, geopathic stress and unhealthy environments.

Clear Quartz - Clear quartz is highly prized for its ability to clear the mind of negativity to enhance higher spiritual receptiveness. It is considered the master of all healing crystals due to its ability to magnify or amplify healing vibrations of other crystals.

Rose Quartz - Rose quartz, a pink crystal that is a very soothing and calming stone. Symbolizing love and harmony, it helps open your heart to give and receive love. It also encourages you to forgive others and especially yourself, helping you to move on. It emits vibrations of love, harmony and peace.

Citrine - Citrine is a golden, yellowish crystal and is among the most beloved of all. Everyone loves Citrine for its beauty and its healing properties, especially for those who want to invite more prosperity and abundance into their lives.

Black Tourmaline - Black tourmaline is considered among the top protective stones. It can also help you with grounding and create shield against harmful electro magnetic fields.
