No one ever believes in horror stories. I can't blame them. Something so unrealistic could never exist. The shadows that creeped in the dark, and cried out your name. Fake. The woman who goes around carrying her head in search of lost souls. Fake. I've always been a skeptic, but I never expected that to change. Not until this day.

I couldn't believe my eyes as I stared at the ungodly creature that lay before me. Maybe it was the fog playing tricks on me. There was no chance such a thing could exist.

I could not be anymore wrong.

As I approached the thick fog, a body became more clear. It wore clothes just as I did. It had hands just as I did. It was almost human, except for the head that lay upon people's shoulders, was not there. I stared in disbelief. My body frozen in fear.

It didn't help that I was the only ome in the parking lot. I tried to holler for help, but nothing came out. I tried to cry but my tears refused to flow. As if stricken by lightning, my body stood in place as it aggressively shook.

It felt like my body was no longer my own. I couldn't control a thing I did. I could only stare at the creature that stood in the middle of the parking lot. People began to exit a car as they ed by the creature. They bore no reaction, as if it were only a figure of my imagination.

I've never believed in fairy tails. Nor the scary stories parents told you before you slept. Of how the boogyman waits in the closet as you sleep. Of how the monsters crawl under your bed, waiting. Everything waiting. Until death takes your neck by its hands.

Squeezing until every ounce of your soul is ripped out.

The people had left for the stores. I thought that if I could make it inside, I'd be safe.

I could not be anymore wrong.

With every shaking breath, I pushed farther. The lights of the stores were blinding, and to my surprise, the man was gone. I let out a sigh of relief as I looked back at the crowded store. The peoples rushing from one aisle to another.

I felt my heart race as I gazed at them. What if I looked insane running inside as if my life depended on it. Though I knew it did, they did not. No one seemed to care, but there were a few odd glances every here and there. This was fine. Nothing I can't handle.

I decided to walk around to cool my head off. That's when it hit me. I had to go back home. I had to that thing once more. That is if it appeared again. I was never religious but even if there was no God, I prayed. I prayed to whomever might hear. Rather it be the holy man people call God or the vast emptiness we call the universe.

I was desperate. Anything would feel better than being here. I watched as a man made his way to the exit. "Um. Sir!" I called out while sprinting towards him. He was tall and well built. Even if he were a criminal, it was better than dying by a headless being. "I think someone's breaking into my car. Please come with me."

He noticed this lie. I was never a good liar, but I couldn't tell him what I saw. I couldn't go back. No, I won't go back. "You sure about that?" I nodded my head vigorously. Please don't say no. He sighed and asked to bring me there. Finally after months on end, I smiled.

"Thank you so much!" I felt safer as we traversed the dark foggy road. There was no sign of that ungodly creature, but I paid no attention to this. I was simply happy that someone actually trusted me. I could feel my body begin to tingle as we got closer to the car.

"Looks fine to me." I grinned at the empty parking lot. "Yes. It's just me." He raised a brow and looked around. "So it is." He turned on his heels and began to walk away. Just as any man would. I scavenged through my car, and pulled out a sharp blade.

I wasn't going back, because no one was there to take me away. I lunged at the man. As I was prepared to dig the knife into his neck, he changed. I watched in horror as the head that I once thought was real, fell. Was I imagining this? Maybe I had cut his head off before realizing it. Yeah that must be it.

My body trembled as I slowly got off the man. I took small steps away from the dead body. From what seemed to be a dead body, until it turned to face me. I laughed as it took a step closer. Every step back I took, it stepped two times closer. I was getting nowhere.

It had me, and there was nothing I could do about it. The only choice I had was to accept my fate. Even a serial killer can be afraid of the dead. Afraid of things that should not exist. Of the shadows that creep in the dark corners of this world.

I closed my eyes as I let that headless being wrap its hands around my neck. Squeezing until I could no longer breath.

Snapping until I too became headless.

Just like I did to you. My dear Noah.

Oh my god. This was incredible! You’re a very talented writer. I could picture everything that was going on in my head!

or, rather, lack of head, haha

This is my favorite in the challenge! It’s absolutely jaw-dropping. :)

I am—

What??? Excuse me??? HUH??? Okay, lemme just cool my head down and then jump into this—

First, when I saw the beginning, I instantly thought of the quote “Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, is the truth” and gosh, does this hold true, especially for the ending!

When they saw the headless man and that no one else could see it, two major explanations for this was 1) they are hallucinating the headless man 2) they are hallucinating the other people and it’s actually an empty lot and abandoned market.

When they were planning killed the man, “I wasn’t going back, because no one was there to take me away” confused me so much and when I went on, my entire head was just filled with question marks.

Did the serial killer go mad from killing too many people? Did the guilt get to them? Did their twisted mind finally crumble? Was this whole story a farce and the serial killer is imagining it in a psych ward? Did that man truly die? Did the serial killer die? When their head snapped, were they murdered? Or is it a metaphor for suicide? Who is Noah? Did their killing spree start with their beloved person? And all of this was a result of guilt and atonement? So many questions, so little answers.

This is an awesome piece of work and I enjoyed it a lot!!!

Lmaoo thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it ok so explanation:

The guy had killed their lover Noah by cutting their head off. He was in prison for a long time and he was also mentally ill. He killed the police who were in the prison and found himself in a parking lot. He was hallucinating the headless man/Noah. He basically went mad and that's why he killed Noah. He genuinely loved him and hates that he did it so yes this happened due to guilt. He tried to escape the guilt/ running into the store, but went mad again because people kept glancing at him. So he tricked the first guy who was leaving into going to his car. He killed him and then started imagining the man was Noah's headless body. The headless man was fake and didn't actually snap his head off. He cut his own head off.

Oh but overall this story is supposed to be one where you can basically make up different reasons things happened kind of like a loose ended movie but this is the actual thing that happened.
