Slight violence warning .
I was gonna hold onto this chapter a bit longer because I was working on cover art, but I'm running out of time because I have to send my phone in tomorrow. I'm deeply deeply scared of losing all my writing. Unfortunately, there isn't enough time to save all the chapters I'm working on. I also had a fanfiction. I was writing about Veran, but it may be forever lost, too.

Keon stuck close to the shadows, keeping the sickly bundled hero as close as he could, without jeopardizing his stealth. He'd unfortunately had been forced to breathe through his mouth. It wasn't the kid's fault he knew. But Keon was not looking forward to how awkward it was going to be to try to scrub him.
It wasn't like he would be able to do it himself, and Keon didn't want him stinking up his bed. He supposed it was just an indignanty they would both suffer. So far, Keon had only seen one Gerudo woman patrolling the night, tall woman with noticeably lighter red hair than the norm.
Even with just her torch light, it was strickinly noticeable. He wandered than why his gaze lingered. She wouldn't be a threat far away as she was. Being a full blooded Sheikah, his excellent eyesight gave him the advantage of being able to see her from afar without her seeing him. Still, though, he made sure not to be careless as he krept into the nearby alleyway.
It was much darker down here, but it at least reduced the chances of being seen. The smell wasn't much better, though. He struggled suddenly, coming close to actually dropping Link as he conked out unexpectedly, increasing his weight.
"Wake up!" Keon whisper hissed. "You can't sleep yet. We aren't safe yet."
Link stared up bleary-eyed, seemingly disoriented. He was about to continue his walk when he caught a reflection in Link's eye. Worling behind him, he'd nearly screamed bloody murder when he saw that same woman right behind him.
She did NOT look happy to see him either. She'd lunged trying to grab at him, but Keon was slightly quicker. Completely put off by her speed, scared out of his mind, he made a run for it.
So frantic was his mind, that he didn't think about where he was going until he almost collided into the sandstone wall. There was nowhere to go.
"Yiga scum! Come wondering our town?! Who the hell do you think you are!?"
Keon just barely dodged a spear thrust only to have her giant hands eclipse over his face. Panicked he jerked away only to his horror he realized that move had unmasked himself.
When she paused to stare at him, he realized it might have actually been a blessing. A small one, quickly before she could seize him again, Keon fished through his pockets and grabbed his emergency spell card, and threw it down. All at once, everything vanished, the last impression being the angry stare of the woman as he fled.
_
Link jerked upright, his stomach in his chest as he realized they were falling through the air. His savior twisted and struggled trying to right them before managing to teleport them again, this time, they collided with something solid, Keon winced. Taking the brunt. But it wasn't over. Soon, they were rolling. Keon instinctively wrapped his arms around Link, trying to take the brunt of the next fall. Link was hurt, but only slightly.
He panicked hurriedly, trying to get off of Keon so he could breathe. Link stared down at him, worried trying to think before Keon reached a hand up. Dismissively patting his head.
"I'm fine, it'll take more than that to -" Keon gasped as the kid clung on to him, sobbing. Pausing, he awkwardly patted his back. "You must be overwhelmed, huh? Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. I saw the Hylian champion cry. You must have been through a lot."
"T.. tant kk.. youn."
Keon pulled back, looking down at him. * Was that supposed to be a "thank you?". There was no way his mouth had been stitched that long. He would be dead.*
"You're uh.. you're very welcome." He'd notice than the way he was looking at him. He felt himself growing uncomfortable. He was the hero, it was just not right for him to look at him like he was a savior.
He had to momentarily look away from those adoring puppy dog eyes. "This is my house, uh.. you're safe now."
" tanttkk kuu."
"Yeah, yeah, don't mention it. Come on, tub, you go stinky." Keon stated halling Link over his shoulder. He would immediately regret that decision, however, as pain shot from his shoulder all the way to his spine.
"Ow- f-fuck!" Keon paused a minute, gritting his teeth. "Can't be helped..." he muttered, limping to the door.
"Sor, ss- sorry. "
"Not your fault," he wrasped.
_____
Link hadn't felt so comfortable in ages. Just being clean was a blessing from Hylia. He hadn't minded being washed as much as he thought he would, he'd perhaps grown used to just being an object to be toated around. This person at least treated him like he was human.
Logically, he should be a lot more wary. It wasn't like the last guy hadn't been kind at first. But, he wanted to believe this mysterious figure in the cyclops mask was a good person. A hero even, maybe he was the hero chosen by the Gods that some locals spoke of?
*It sure was odd when he held that curly knife at me, though. Was he considering killing me? Why? Maybe he thought I was someone bad? I don't even know who I am. What if I am someone bad? I don't want to be someone bad...*
He let out a startled yelp when he felt someone prodding at him.
"Sorry kid, er- Link.. your Link, right?"
Link cocked his head, seeming confused. "I.. I don- don't know who I am."
His companion froze, eyeing him in trepidation . An orangeish sweater hung limp in his arms. "What? Are you joking?! How do you not know who you are!?"
"I.. I donno any-tin I.. I." Link paused, trying to gather his thoughts. "Was in water, was glowy.. and - and, ter was drippy eyes. Like yer mask."
His eyes widened further. "I see.. do you why you were in there?"
Link shook his head.
Keon gave a thoughtful look, "they had to have been desperate to use THAT. I thought that whole idea was scrapped.." his face scrunched in annoyance. "Did that dirtbag king go back on his ban just to?" He trailed off, realizing Link had no idea what he was saying.
"Forget it, my name is Keon. You can live here for a time."
"Tanttkk kuu, I- wish could repay bu-"
"Kiddo, that's sweet and all, but it's not necessary. I'm helping because I want to. You're just a kid, I couldn't leave you like that. Also, I wanted to ask, and well, there is no way to ask without being insensitive but. Why are you talking like that? Isn't Hylian your first language?"
Link stared down in embarrassment. "I don know.. uh. Guess was cause was not spose talk, s-so forgot?"
Keon frowned sadly. "Dang, I'm sorry, kid. I can't imagine all you went through. I only know half the picture considering where I found you. One more question: Why did they leave you behind?"
Link shuddered. "T-tey got caught a-and tey were sayin I wasn wort te risk cause I was prob-lee too old be sold.. I t-tot tat meant tey let me go but, you know.."
"Gods kid, I can't believe you got caught up in all this." Keon stared as everything started to make sense. He'd wandered out of the shrine of reserection completely helpless and had been taken, probably deceived.
"If I ever find out who these people are, I'll kill them, I swear. " Keon fumed. Looking down, he realized he was still holding the sweater. "Ah here, put this on. Your clothes can't be saved."
Link nodded , and he tried with great trouble to get the shirt on. In the end, Keon needed to help him with that too.
"I'm sorry, kid, I'll fix your wrists soon. I'm just trying to give you a bit of a breather first. Because well, it's gonna hurt, and I am NOT an expert."
"Uh- n-know some un who is?"
"I mean, yes, but if I told her I'd be trouble, and she'd murder you on sight."
"Why?"
"Uh well.. because I'm actually not supposed to be helping. Technically, we aren't even on the same side. Actually, it could get worse than straight-up murder. If anyone found out you had no memories, they'd use you, I won't have that. You made your choice long ago, even if you don't . I wouldn't want my choice taken from me."
"What is yer side?"
"I'm part of the yiga clan, we umm. We are very against the royal family. I suppose you don't even the royal family, do you?"
Link shook his head sadly.
"I see well.. you could probably benefit from some shut eye."
