My Zelda History

Part 1: A bad start

The first Zelda game I have ever played is: The Legend of Zelda on the NES and I...did not like the game...

I was four years old and was a little sister who's brother had just gotten a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). I was amazed by the console and asked my brother if I also could play. He was kind and said I was allowed to play on his NES when he was not playing.

He had some amazing games for the NES. Super Mario Bros 1 and 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles II The Arcade Game and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2. I really loved those games because they were easy to play. Every game had levels where you had to walk from the left to the right and defeat enemies along the way. I was not good at playing videogames at that age but, since alot of NES games did not have a save feature, I had to practice the levels over and over again, which caused me getting better. I did die alot and was not allowed to play for a long time so I sadly did not finish those games. But it was still fun to play those games because we were progressing, sometimes even reaching the last world or even the last level.

The Legend Of Zelda was also a game my brother got for the NES. When I was four yours old I didn't know how to read English and the game did not explain alot of things. That is why I didn't like the game. I died alot of times and even though there is a save option in the game, I did not come further than the first dungeon.

Part 2: An unexpected turn

In the next 10 years I didn't play any other Zelda game. We didn't have the games that were released on the Gameboy Advance, Nintendo 64 and Gamecube and I didn't want to play The Legend of Zelda on the NES anymore. But luckily due to a coincidence I came across another Zelda game which started my love for The Legend of Zelda games..

The Wii console I got from my parents sadly didn't work anymore, but my neighbours still had a Wii which their children didn't use anymore. Luckily they were very kind to borrow their Wii with a bag filled with games and other stuff for the Wii. In that bag I noticed something very unfamiliar. It was a Gamecube controller and a few memory cards, but back then I did not know what it was and I did not know that Gamecube games could be played on the Wii. I connected the Wii to our TV and when I started the Wii to see if it worked, I noticed there was already a game inside the Wii. It was called: "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker"

I was curious and started the game, but ofcourse I could not come any further than the title screen because I was using the Wii remote. I thought maybe the controller that I found was needed and figured out how to connect the controller to the Wii. Luckily it worked and I began my adventure on Outset Island. And I loved every part of exploring the island. However, I did not know the Wii needed the memory card to save since my English was not that good at that time so I had to play the beginning on outset island three times before I knew how to save the game haha...

Anyway I kept playing the Wind Waker until I finished the game and I loved that game very much. It still holds a very special place in my heart <3 I loved the adventure so much that I wanted to replay The Legend of Zelda game on the NES. I began to replay the game and with alot of help from the internet I finished it. I did not like it as much as the Wind Waker but it was still fun to complete the game. I wanted to know more about the Legend of Zelda and luckily I had a friend who could help me with that...

Part 3: My favorite franchise

My friend from highschool happened to have Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess for the Wii, which we played at her house and I loved to play those games. She also had the book Hyrule Historia and I learned that there were many more Zelda games which also were about going on an adventure. Due to my experience with The Legend of Zelda, Wind Waker, Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess I knew those other games would also be amazing to play so I was determined to play every game of this franchise. And with every game I fell more and more in love with the franchise.

I have almost completed my mission to play every Zelda game. I only have to play Four Swords and then I have played every Zelda game. But since the game is now only available for the Gameboy and is a multiplayer game which requires multiple Gameboys, I don't think I will complete this quest since I think it is not worth the money and time. I do plan to watch a walkthrough in the future so I do know how the story and gameplay goes.

My Zelda Amino Journey

Part 1.1 Discovering Zelda Amino

When I became a fan of Zelda, I did not have many people in person to talk about my love for the franchise. Some did know a little bit about Zelda but besides one good friend there were not many people who loved Zelda like I did. I a colleague asked me which games I played when I told him I consider myself a gamer. When I told him that I played alot of Zelda games he replied saying that those games are for kids and not like the OG games for Xbox and Playstation....so yeah that is why I was searching for a community to share my love of Zelda games with. There were some websites about Zelda games back in the day to talk to people about it but those were not really active.

I was scrolling in the Google Play Store for the 10th time around 2015/2016 to see if there were any new cool Zelda apps. That's when I saw a new app called "Zelda Amino". I was curious and opened the app and what I found was everything I dreamed of when I thought about a Zelda community. I loved the blogs, that there are groups you could and people to talk to about Zelda games. So I decided to make an and make some friends.

Part 1.2 My Zelda Amino Name

When I was making my here on Zelda Amino, I wanted to create a name related to the Zelda games. I really loved that Zelda in Ocarina of Time was called "The Princess of Destiny". I wanted that to be my name but there was already someone with that name who also was very active back then. I tried to come up with something else but nothing sticked like "The Princess of Destiny". So I decided to shorten the name and call myself Destiny. And that is why my name is Destiny.

As an tribute to the origin of my Zelda Amino name, I requested the title "Princess of Destiny" when titles were given away for free because amino hit around 125K . So that's why I have that title ^^

Part 2.1 First years on Zelda Amino: Groups

The very first group on Zelda Amino was called "Secret Links". I being really curious about it so I checked out the blog from KeyOfTime. The blog described what the group was about. It was mainly a fun group to hangout with. You could if you chose a Link from one of the Zelda games and if you could explain why you love that character. I chose Linkle and was accepted to ^^ After the creation of the Secret Links, groups became a thing on Zelda Amino. With permission of Key, other Secret groups were made like the Secret Zeldas and Secret Ganons. There was a group chat for the Links, for the Zeldas and Links and a group chat with the Zeldas, the Links and the Ganons. Being part of the group was really fun! I think I did more groups but sadly I don't :(

Back in the day there was a group called "The Hyrule Times". They offered the title "Warrior of Wisdom" in one of their blogs if you answered all their trivia questions. I was the first one who knew the answers to all of their (I think around) 30 questions. That's why I have the title Warrior of Wisdom ^^

Part 2.2 First years on Zelda Amino: ing Event Team, promotion to curator and the MDMSquad

After a year being on Zelda Amino I applied to Event Team and was accepted. After being on Event Team for a while I got promoted to Curator ^^ and on the staff team I became close with Meritiana and Matthias. We knew eachother already from The Secret Links and Zeldas but I becoming more close with you guys when we all were apart of the staff team.

I loved being on the staff team with Meritiana and Matthias and we often called on Skype because Zelda Amino had either no call options back then or we had huge connection problems on Zelda Amino. We had alot of fun during those Skype calls *insert evil laugh mwahahah*. They helped me alot growing as an Event Team member and Curator and I am very grateful to have met them :)

Part 3.1 First years on Zelda Amino: Stepping down deleting my old

Even though I loved being apart of the staff, my life (school, work. etc.) asked too much of my time and I could not keep up with mod quotations and activity requirements anymore. I was also not very active anymore in the groups I was apart of. I left the staff team and left The Secret Links. It was sad to leave, but I think it was the right decision to step down because I could not keep up with my responsibilities anymore. After I stepped down I was not so active anymore as before but I was still checking in weekly and chatted with my friends here on Zelda Amino.

At some point I decided to delete my old . I do not want to go in detail over all the reasons why I did it, but it was partly because I was insecure about all the content I made and things I did in the past. I am a (slightly retired) perfectionist and was insecure about alot of things and I decided on a whim to erase everything by deleting my old ...I regretted it but I was not able recover my old . Soooo :sweat_smile: I made a new with a different name, Ellie, which is a nickname my friends call me in person. I wanted to stay in touch with friends so they knew that the new member Ellie was me and I luckily got my old titles back from one of the leaders.

Part 3.1 Inactive years: Trying to be active again but failing

I tried to stay active here on Zelda Amino but sadly alot of my friends became inactive or left Zelda Amino and I did not have inspiration anymore to make blogs about Zelda. So I became inactive and I began to check in less and less until it was once every few months to see what had changed and if my friends became active again.

I did try to be active again but I forget alot of things and it was getting harder to reconnect with old friends due to me being embarrased not ing things from their life and not wanting to ask again. So I was barely active and talked with Meritiana, Matthias, Key and Tori sometimes but I lost touch with everyone else.

I also tried to groups again but Zelda Amino was not so active anymore as it used to be and it was hard to start over again and I also did not have that much time to invest in it so after reing The Secret Links or Secret Zeldas I left again.

Part 3.2 Meeting my boyfriend

Four or Five years ago when I was checking Zelda Amino around Easter, there was a hangout call with the Zelda Amino staff where they answered questions from and had fun. The could not the voicecall but they could send messages with questions or something fun. It was fun and something I had not seen before, so I hanged out with the staff and that's when it happened.

My boyfriend said something that made me realise he was from the Netherlands. I can not for the love of Zelda what he exactly said haha. It is very rare to meet someone from the Netherlands in a Zelda community. In my experience most people here on Zelda Amino are from either America or another country in Europe, so whenever I come across someone from the Netherlands, I send them a message in Dutch.

We instantly had a connection when we began to chat. I had really fun conversations with him and after chatting for a few months we decided it would be cool to meet and hangout in person. So we hangout and had also a great connection in person.

After the second or third hangout we hugged eachother goodbye. He noticed some signs during our hangouts that I might like him but when we hugged and we both did not want to let go he knew it was the last sign he needed to make a move. So.. he kissed me on my forehead and cheek, said his goodbye and walked away. As I also started to walk away and looked backwards to him I started to slowly process what had happened, since it was the first time someone made a move to me in person. I wanted to talk to him about it but wanted to do it in person and luckily we already had a hangout planned the day afterwards and after some talking we decided to start dating.

I have been together with him for four years and we are living together for one year :) It feels like us meeting was destiny because there were so many coincidences:

1. Long distance: We used to live three hours away from eachother so we would probably not have come across eachother if it weren't for Zelda Amino.

2. Inactivity: Me and him both were very inactive at that time and it was pure coincidence that we both decided to check Zelda Amino at that day around the same time.

3. Staff call: I think it was the first time a staff call like this was organised. And it happened to be at the same time we were online.

4. From the Netherlands: He happened to mention something in the chat that gave away that he is from the Netherlands.

All those things combined make me believe it's destiny that I have met him. And I am very grateful that he is a part of my life. He has been my rock and I love him very much :)

Part 4.1 Reconnection with ZA

A few months ago I started chatting more and more again with Meritiana, Matthias and Tori. I had a few hangout calls with Meritiana and it really felt like no time had ed and we were back in time to our Skype calls where we had so much fun talking about alot of things. I do have to ask alot of things again since I forgot alot of stuff but I can be vulnerable about it to Meritiana, Matthias and Tori and they are very patient with me :)

I started thinking about posting blogs again about my opinions about Zelda games since it has been such a long time I did that. Almost all of my posts about Zelda games were deleted since they were on my old . I also forgot some details from the games and I wouldn't mind at all to play those Zelda games again and write about them again. So I am right now playing Skyward Sword HD and after completing the game I am going to write a blog about it. My boyfriend has only played a few Zelda games but he also wants to play every Zelda game so I intend to play alot of games together with him and give my thoughts about those games again.

There are also amazing challenges being made by the Event Team and I love the Rupee system, that was not part of Zelda Amino back in the day. So I plan to some more challenges in the future.

Part 4.2 Reviving: Becoming a part of the ZA staff again

During one of the long voicecalls I had recently with Meritiana, she started talking about her experience on the Zelda Amino staff. She described the amazing being part of the staff and also told me that there is less drama and more guidance then back in the day when we were both a Curator. She and Matthias convinced me to apply for Curator and after my application being accepted and finishing the Curator training I am back on the staff again :) I love being apart of the staff team and I hope to help Zelda Amino to be a safe place to express our ion for The Legend of Zelda.

Update: Since August I became one of the leaders of Zelda Amino ^^

Part 4.3 Thank you!!!

During writing my Zelda History and Zelda Amino Journey, I realized that Zelda (Amino) has been a huge part of my life. And I want to thank everyone who has impacted Zelda Amino in becoming the community it is today :)

So thank you to all Leaders, Curators, Event Team from the past to the present who have made Zelda Amino a safe and amazing place, thank you friends from past to present who have been with me during my ups and downs and thank you every Zelda Amino Member who are making amazing Zelda content everyday and sharing your love for this franchise!

You all have made Zelda Amino into the community it is today! You all have been a part of my Zelda Amino Journey and I am very grateful to be apart of this amazing community! I hope to stay for a long time :)
