— ⚜ Percival, or Percy to his friends, is an amateur knight of the Hylian Renaissance following the First Dark Age. He grew up as a viscount; heir to the small territory of Winchester in the now densely populated Faron Woods. An only child, pampered by his late father and mother, he has become quite prideful - but he is a comionate young man.

His father, Arthur Basilio Winchester, was an honorary member of the Hylian Naval Guard, and was often absent on long voyages. When he was home, however, he treated his son with the highest warmth, and taught him to fence.

His mother, Genivieve Adelaide Winchester, was a descendant of the late Elizabeth Demetria Winchester, or Liza, as was her pen name. Taking a cue from her ancestor, Genevieve was a valedictorian scholar, going on to do massive research in the linguistics field.

Percival, as such, grew up full of ambition, believing nothing was outside of his reach. When he was younger, he was told he was the descendant of a great hero, and this only ignited his ions more. So, when Percival set out on a journey of self discovery, he had the full of the world, and yet, no knowledge of it.

During his travels, he became acutely familiar with his troubled family’s past, via means of the ghost of the Hero of Twilight. Optimism unshaken, Percival resolved to seek justice for his defamed father; and with the power of the ghastly Vengeful Godling, sought out the traitor Sophocles and slew him.

Along the way, he made many friends, some of which being direct descendants of the pioneers of the Dark Age. Namely Ruth, Diana, and Elena, granddaughters of the Cleric Queen Luda and her wives, and Owain and Gawain, descendants of Talo and Malo.

With a new posse formed, Percival returned victorious to his mother, earning the Winchester family the respect that was stolen from them.

—⚜ Nomenclature

Percival - Created by the 12th-century French poet Chrétien de Troyes for his poem Perceval, the Story of the Grail. Chrétien may have derived the name from Old French perce val "pierce the valley", or he may have based it loosely on the Welsh name Peredur [1]. In the poem Perceval is a boy from Wales who hopes to become a knight under King Arthur. Setting out to prove himself, he eventually comes to the castle of the Fisher King and is given a glimpse of the Grail.

Bertrand - Derived from the Old German elements beraht meaning "bright" and rant meaning "rim (of a shield)". From an early date it has been confused with Bertram and the two names have merged to some degree. Saint Bertrand was an 11th-century bishop of Comminges in . Another famous bearer was the English philosopher Bertrand Russell (1872-1970).

Winchester - From an English place name, derived from Venta, of Celtic origin, and Latin castrum meaning "camp, fortress".

—⚜ Presentation

Percival is fairly small in stature compared to his peers, a byproduct of his mixed heritage making his height genes cancel out. He has messy, dark ginger hair that appears almost brown when wet. He never cuts his hair, but instead gathers it into a low ponytail. He has a mole on his left cheek, similar to his mother, and inherited his bad eyesight from his father. Percival has several cords for his glasses, but they always end up irritating his ears.

He enjoys wearing bright, lightweight clothing. While Greek styles are the most popular in Hyrule at the height of its Renaissance, Percival prefers a more refined, somewhat ostentatious style reminiscent of the first Dark Age. His favorite color to wear is gold. The only accessory he tends to wear are a pair of golden hooped earrings - a gift from one of his many cousins.

His fencing rapier is made of 300 maraging steel, a compound of nickel, cobalt, titanium, and small bits of bronze. It has dual quillons meant to protect the hand, forming the shape of a spade. As is tradition with naming parts of rapiers, his rapier is called Sforzando - a musical term meaning to have sudden emphasis.

—⚜ Personality

Being generally headstrong, Percival is very prone to making mistakes. He often rushes in without any plan, thinking that brute force will get him through everything. It often does, but that's mostly by dumb luck and due to the exasperated family guardian desperately knocking him away from death's door. Percival believes that he's a very gallant person; one who has the power to save people, to reach out and help the needy. Unfortunately, the way he goes about this is often condescending, due to his status.

But his intentions are nothing but pure! He has a heart of gold, and if you find yourself in his company, he will do everything he can to make you comfortable. Percival, at heart, is a people pleaser - his parents wanted him to be self-assured, and so he was. He has good humor and loves to joke about, although things do tend to fly over his head.

Confused easily, and unable to grasp complex subjects - especially those relating to science and or mathematics - Percival flies through life like the freest breeze, only getting by on what he needs to know. He is often ignorant, but he wants to know more about the world - when he isn't making himself believe he's on top of it, anyways.

— ⚜ Ancestry

Although for most of his life Percival has yet to realize it, he is related to one of the many heroes of Hyrule. The Hero of Twilight is his great-great uncle, and his spirit has been looking out for him ever since he was little. Hylia knows he needs it, as accident-prone is Percival's middle name. Twilight, the spirit's preferred name, is an enigma to Percival, despite their many meetings. He has an air as cold as ice, and his expression is always blank, calculating, watching. Somehow he still manages to be exceedingly kind to Percival, menacing as he is. Twilight is his main magical tutor, since he is uninitiated otherwise. Though Percival doesn't know it, he has roped him out of danger countless times via possession.

Furthermore, since Twilight is related to the Hero's Shade, and since all the Links share an essential Hero's Spirit, he has an extended family that he knows very little of. They aren't around much, but they do drop in from time to time for a little divine intervention. Percival's other great-great uncle, Colin, was married to Zora King Ralis, who looks after him any time he enters the Lanayru Province.

Though Percival is none the wiser, these ghosts are quite fond of him - they haven't had a child so independent and confident in a long time. They're his biggest fans. Percival appreciates the attention!

—⚜ Trivia

• Percival is terrified of dogs. His best friend as a child had a small pomeranian that used to chase him around their yard. He's never gotten over it.

• Percival eats unpeeled oranges.

• He pronounces "pecan" like "pick-en", because he's a dumbass.

• Percival was originally an OC developed for my TCOMC au; in that story, his father and mother are Midna and Twilight.

• In most iterations where Percival receives a Triforce piece, he usually gets Power or Courage. Sorry, but he is....not wise.

• Percival has a truly ridiculous amount of cousins, due to the Winchester family producing many sets of three children in each generation. They all call him by increasingly annoying nicknames. Percy-kins is his least favorite.

• Percival gets both deathly seasick and broke his ribs the last time he tried to ride a horse, so he walks everywhere. He wears heavy duty boots to combat This.

• Percival's scar on his cheek is not from a traumatic event - he actually just fell down a hill and scraped a branch with his face.

• Percival's fighting style is based on Inigo Montoya and Mercutio.
