even though the end of september hasn’t fallen upon them, jisung’s friend group decided to go to a halloween themed fair that had just opened its gates earlier in the week. at first, jisung wasn’t thrilled with the idea of going; seeing that things easily sacred him, he was bound to embarrass himself in front of his friends.

walking up to the entrance of the haunted house, jisung was the very last one in the crowd of his friends. he trailed behind, lazy steps dragging against the gravel below his feet. “come on, jisung! let’s go inside!” donghyuck screamed after him, waving him over with a smile. hiding a pained grimace, jisung walked closer to his friend group. the strong wind in the cold air made him shiver just as jaemin wrapped an arm around him and walked them past the haunted house’s entrance.

right as he walked in, the lighting in the room was a low BLUE, and there was a faint ringing noise coming from what seemed to be a door at the far back of the room. he had noticed the blue light shining all the way from the line he was standing in before coming into the house. chills ran through his whole body as he gripped strongly onto jaemin’s sweater sleeve.

”let’s just move to the next room…” jisung said quietly, a scream coming from the far end of the haunted house right as he finished. they moved along, shuffling quickly further towards the next door.

when he entered the next room, he was met with dark red lighting that made everything else in the room look black. a huge collection of photos were dangling from the air, and even when looking up, jisung couldn’t tell where the string that held those photos met the ceiling. eyes still on the closest picture to him, jisung walked forward as if on autopilot, observing the photograph. it was of a boy; a small child holding onto a bear. this child smiled, seemingly unaware of what was occurring behind him. there was an obscure shadow creeping up behind where he was sat, almost ten times bigger than him.

jisung quickly pulled his eyes away from that PHOTO, not wanting to imagine anything else. he noticed the other pictures floating around, all an assortment of creepy, bone chilling situations that he would never want to experience. “well this sure isn’t LA VIE EN ROSE…” jisung mumbled, observing his surroundings. unfortunately, he was so preoccupied with looking around that he didn’t notice someone standing close to him. he bumped into the figure, snapping out of his unpleasant reverie.

”i’m so sorry!” he apologized, looking up to see a man older than him, gently smiling down at him. “are you okay, kid?” he asked, and jisung noticed how nice the man looked. “yeah, i’m okay, sorry for bumping into you.” the man laughed, and jisung felt some tension leaving his body. “were you here with your friends? i’m sure they’re looking for you right about now,” the man questioned, looking around.

it was quite hard to see because of the dark lighting and the pictures hanging so low from the ceiling. “um, yeah, i was. i can’t see anything though…” jisung replied hesitantly. “it’s okay, let’s go see if they’re somewhere else,” honestly jisung shouldn’t be walking with a stranger but at this point he wasn’t so worried.

as they were leaving, jisung almost tripped over his feet on the threshold of the door. he and the man —who he learned was named taeyong— conversed about many things, and jisung slowly felt himself getting more comfortable with his presence. he acted sort of like jaemin would when he worried about him, but in an older and more mature way. his nurturing side sort of made jisung sad, for they had just met.

”oh, hey, there are my friends,” jisung said when they finally walked out of the house and saw his friend group pacing and looking around. “i’m glad we could find them this easily,” taeyong replied, observing his friends. “i’ve GOTTA GO,” jisung said, wanting to comfort his friends as fast as possible. “okay. here’s my phone number. i work as an editor, but i’ll make you a priority if you call,” taeyong said as he laughed. “thanks!”

”CALL ANYTIME. when you’re sad, happy, mad, just call, yeah?” taeyong said. jisung nodded, smiling one last time to him and turned around to walk towards his friends. he ended up getting attacked by hugs and frantic words, but in the end, his friends were happy to see him again.

he ended up talking to taeyong often and visited him at his editing job. he looked up to him as a hyung and the older often hung out with jisung and his friend group. whenever he tells people he met taeyong by accident at a haunted house, it always makes people stop and laugh.
