I want to discuss one of the oldest most used tool in the witchs tool box. This tool have been around and documented all the to 1550BC in Egypt. Yep that old!! This tool was mostly used for medicine for 6000 year pior to being used in the kitchen. Herbalist and or medicine people use it grind and smash herbs to make their medicine. Then 6000 years later it was used in the kitchen to grind spices that had been introduced to different cultures. 10,000 years later this tools design is completely unchanged. Materials for it have changed some. They are made from, stone, crystal, wood and metal. The most commonly used one is the original good old stone ones. They are strong and durable.

The mortar and pestle is a witche best friend when it comes to herb use. There are many times we need this handy friend to crush up things into powder. Powder for incense or oils. Sometime we need things like pepper corns and all spice in smaller pieces. The blender can blend too much or way too little. You can never go wrong with this tool when it comes to needing some herbs crushed or powdered.

So older simple tools can be the best. You can find these almost anywhere. Yes even a thrift store. You dont have to spend alot or have a huge one. Sometimes old is always better than new.
