The room was quiet, with only the occasional clock ticking interrupting the silence, making it hard for him to focus on his thoughts. Finally, Xiaoshi broke the silence and began:

Guang stepped closer with a serious expression and spoke softly in his monotone voice, which held a hint of tenderness.

— “I don’t know… Maybe if we had acted differently, the outcome could have been different.”

— “Yes, but we couldn’t predict what would happen. Everyone takes risks, and sometimes things go wrong.”

Xiaoshi exhaled, holding his head. He looked at Guang, then, clearing his throat, put a hand on his shoulder. His voice sounded more confident now.

— “We’ll do everything we can. This situation will not happen again.”
