Hello UTA! It's April here, and I'm back with a new story! I decided to the Undertale challenge hosted by the official Team Amino! I procrastinated writing it until now lmao Anyways, I sat down and wrote it all in one shot... However, while copying it to paste it in a word counter, I deleted it... Luckily, QuickMemo+ (my notes app) had saved most of it! I had to rewrite the ending, but I think it came out even better and seeming to be less rushed! I had more complications with while copying and pasting, such as the 10,000 character limit for pasting on my phone, but I was able to do it! Anyways, I hope you enjoy the story! Have fun reading it! XD

Whirling Memories~ A Neutral Route Story-[IC]Hello UTA! It's April here, and I'm back with a new story! I decided to the

A child opened their eyes, staring through the hole far above them. The sky faded from a light blue to a dark blue towards where the child assumed was west. They sat up and looked around them. The cavern was- unusually- a dark blue. They seemed to have fallen on a patch of golden flowers- most likely buttercups. The hole let in only a certain amount of light, just enough to engulf a an a portion around the patch of flowers, the flowers themself, and of course the child. In the light, the rocks covering the entire cavern was a royal blue.

The child stood up, messing around with their hands. I've been here before, the child thought. They eagerly took a step forward, one after another, until they approached a large arch. They shrugged and stepped through.

In front of them was another golden flower, however, it had a face. It smiled- it seemed oddly familiar, and even sickeningly sweet. The child shuffled forward.

"Howdy! I'm Flowey; Flowey the flower!" A voice arose from the flower's mouth. The child blinked, faint memories whirling in their brain. They knew what was coming next. The flower was going to engage in a fight with them, trick them and try to kill them, a tall goat-woman was going to save them, blah blah blah... Flowey sent out "friendliness pellets", which were actually bullets.

The child yawned and easily dodged them. Flowey was surprised, but put it off as though it was a mistake. He sent out another set, to which the child dodged again. This time, Flowey was visibly angry.

"Is this a joke? Are you brain dead? RUN. INTO. THE. BULLETS!!!!" Flowey yelled. He realized what he said and quickly "corrected" himself with, "I mean- friendliness pellets." He smiled again, letting put more bullets. The child dodged once more. Flowey's face changed into a devilish face, yet he still smiled. He questioned whether or not the child already knew what was happening and claimed that they was just wanted to see him suffer. They rolled their eyes at him.

Suddenly, a ring of bullets surrounded the child. Flowey smirked and screeched, "Die." The child stood in place, waiting for the bullets to reach them. Out of no where, a ball of fire hit Flowey, who yelped then disappeared into the ground. A tall female anthropomorphic goat came into a view, and comforted the child, checking if they needed to be healed.

The goat-woman introduced herself as "Toriel, caretaker of the Ruins" before informing the child that they were the first human to fall down in a long time. She then invited the child to follow her. They obeyed- they had always been to told respect their elders.

Toriel led the child to a room with two sets of stairs, where they found a sparkle twinkling in the leaves. They approached the sparkle. The child gasped as they were overwhelmed by a wave of determination. They grinned before following Toriel up the stairs, which led to an archway. Toriel disappeared into a new room, to which the child followed. There were six buttons on the ground, to the side of the light purple path, and a switch was on the wall. Toriel turned to the child and smiled.

"Welcome to your new home, innocent one. Allow me to educate you in the operation of the ruins." With that, Toriel stepped on four of the buttons, creating an open square formation. After that, she pulled the switch on the wall down, which caused a line of spikes to retract back into the ground. Toriel stopped in front of the opening in the wall.

"The Ruins are full of puzzles. Ancient fusions between diversions and doorkeys. One must solve them to move from room to room. Please adjust yourself to the sight of them," Toriel stated. She turned and left the room. The child spotted a sign and strolled over to it. The sign read: "Only the fearless may proceed. Brave ones, foolish ones. Both not walk the middle road." The child didn't understand, so they shrugged and decided to just follow Toriel.

Toriel told the child to trigger several switches to open the next room before running ahead. The child skipped over to a switch and pull it down. Toriel moved ahead to the next switch, as did the human child. They pulled the switch down, triggering Toriel to move forward. The child followed and encountered two switches. One had multiple arrows pointing to it, but curiosity got the best of them, so the child reached for the opposite switch. Toriel gasped.

"No, no, no! You want to press the other switch." The child glared at Toriel before snorting then pulling down the correct switch. Toriel smiled and nodded, then moved to the next room. The child hopped behind her, grinning and humming.

Toriel stoppes the human and gave a serious look. She gently remarked, "As a human living in the Underground, monster may attack you. You will need to be prepared for this situation," Toriel paused. "However, worry not! The process is simple. When you encounter a monster, you will enter a fight. While you are in a fight, strike up a friendly conversation. Stall for time. I will come to resolve the conflict. Practice talking to the dummy." The child got a chilling feeling in their body. Somehow, they knew what the goat said was untrue. They shook their head and approached the dummy, entering into a fight. The child followed Toriel's instruction and spoke to the dummy. It was a dull conversation- I mean, of course it was! Dummies can't talk! They aren't living creatures!

Toriel smiled and slightly clapped her hands before moving along. The child followed happily, glad to make Toriel happy.

"There is another puzzle in this room... I wonder if you can solve it?" Toriel pondered. She quickly moved forward, as did the child.

All of a sudden, a Froggit hopped over, engaging in a fight with the child. The child jumped back, but ed Toriel's instructions. The child decided to flirt with the Froggit. The Forggit started to prepare something, but Toriel stepped in the middle, giving the Froggit a stern look. The Froggit looked scared as or hopped away. The child blinked, insure of what just happened. The child looked back before following Toriel into the next section of the room.

They spotted a cluster of spikes. Toriel stared at the puzzle, a worried look on her face. She turned her attention towards the human and meekly uttered, "This is the puzzle but..." She looked away and continued, "Here take my hand for a moment." Toriel leaned down and grabbed the child's hand, gently pulling the child along. She walked in an odd, intricate formation. The spikes retracted as Toriel walked.

As soon as the two stepped off of the spikes, Toriel let go of the child's hand and turned towards them, explaining, "Puzzles seem a little too dangerous for now." She quickly bounced over to the next room, the child following closelt behind.

Toriel looked down at the human, a sad look on her face. She looked away- the child could have sworn they seen a small amount of tears escape Toriel's eyes. She wiped the tears away in one, swoft motion, then looked at the child. Toriel gave a weak smile.

"You have done excellently thus far, my child..." She trailed off and sighed. "However... I have a difficult request to ask of you." Toriel stopped and took a step forward, looking straight foward. She looked highly uncomfortable and upset. "I would like you to walk to the end of the room by yourself." Toriel raced off ahead. The child was frozen in their tracks, blinking, confused.

"Uhh... What's going on...?" The child slowly moved forward, a million thought racing through their mind. What was Toriel planning? Was Toriel okay? Was the child going to be fine? Or was something going to attack and...- kill them...?

It seemed like hours before the child reached a pillar, but they knew it couldn't have been more than five minutes. The child shuffled over to the pillar. They could see Toriel was obviously there, and she porbably knew that, but she still stayed silent. The child chuckled and played along, acting as though they didn't know where she was, trotting over to the ipening of the next room. Toriel raced in front of them and smiled.

"Greetings, my child. Do not worry, I did not leave you. I was merely behind this pillar the entire time," Toriel reassured the child. The child nodded, and Toriel proceeded to thank them for trusting her, informing them that she was testing their independence.

"I must attend to some business, and you must stay alone for a while. Please remain here," Toriel continued. "It's dangerous to explore by yourself." She said sternly. Toriel seemed to be pulled into thought. Her face lit up and she pulled out a cell phone.

"I have an idea. I will give you a cell phone. If you have a need for anything, just call. Be good, alright?" The child took the phone from Toriel's hand. She gave a charming smile before standing up and leaving the room. The child got a devious smirk on the face and immediately dialed Toriel's number. They slyly began to flirt with her. The child could feel her blush through the phone. She giggled and remarked that the child would not an "old lady" like her. As soon as Toriel hung up, the child laughed.

They stood around, waiting for eight minutes. They were getting bored... They sighed and onched out of the room. Their phone rang, so they picked up.

"Hello? This is Toriel. You have not left the room, have you? There are a few puzzles ahead that I have yet to explain. It would be dangerous to try to solve them yourself. Be good, alright?" The child gasped. Was it a coincidence that she called about leaving the room AS SOON as they left the room?

...Was she watching them?

The child looked around, frantically. They seen a Froggit sitting there in the open. They carefully slinked forward, their body tense. The Froggit looked at them and said, "Excuse me, human. I have some advice for you about battling monsters," the Froggit stared at the child, waiting for some kind of response. The child calmed down, and motioned for the Froggit to continue, smiling with comfort. "If you act a certain way or fight until you almost defeat them... They might not want to battle you anymore. If a monster does not want to fight you,  please... Show some mercy human." The child nodded in understanding. They walked around, when suddenly, a Whimsum engaged in a fight with the child.

The child freaked out and attempted to hit the Whimsum with a stick. The Whimsum scurried away, scared. The human gasped, realozing what they had done. They sadly continued roaming the room and encountered another sparkle. It made them feel determined again, but they still felt a bit down about the Whimsum. A Froggit approached them, forcing the child into a fight. They attempted to foirt with this one. It blushed but did something unexpected... It attacked the child.

They gasped and barely dodged the attack. A memory flashed before them. They seen themself kill the Froggit. They blinked the memory away, then told the Froggit it could leave. The Froggit smiled, ribbited, and hopped away.

The child went into a room thar branched off. There was a bowl of "monster candy". A sign was propped up near it. The sign said, "Take one." The child took only one, then left the room. They strolled over to the next room. As soon as they entered the next room, they were attacked again, but this time by a Moldsmal. They growled in anger. They were getting tired of this, so, they did something they never wanted to do.

The child attacked the Moldsmal. The Moldsmal was pushed back with a slapping noise. Oddly enough, it made a soft screeching noise. The child was not expecting such, but it attacked back; the Moldsmal threw pieces if itself towards the child. They stumbled back as the attack hit them. The bits of gelatine burned their skin, causing them to screech. They frantically tried to brush everything off of them. In revenge, they attack again. The Moldsmal tried to dodge, but failed. It lurched forward, throwing itself at the child. The gelatine monster was slow, enabling the child to dodge it easily. They rolled their eyes and threw the stick at the monster. It hit the Moldsmal, causing it to burst into dust.

The child fell to their knees, exhausted. Their day had been a long one, and this hadn't made it any better.

The realization of the consequences that could possibly follow this action began to set into the child's mind. Suddenly, a rush of memories came back to them. They ed everything they had done in the past- every time they spared a creature, every time they killed one...

Their eyes filled with tears. They lifted the bottom of their shirt up and leaned their head down, wiping their eyes. They bunched up their shirt and screamed into it.

They heard an odd noise above their head. They slowly lifted their head up. In front of their eyes was a black button with orange trim. Inscribed on the button, in large orange lettering was the word "RESET". The child looked around, seeing if anyone was watching. It seemed as though everyone had ran off. So, the child hesitantly reached for the button. Their hand touched it, the button made a clicking sound.

The world around them went blank, everyrhing turned black. Their memories rushed away from them. They could see them whirl away into the void. The child grabbed for the memories, but they rushed away. The child screamed out into the void. Their voice cut out, everything- including themself- disappeared.

...

A child opened their eyes to a large cavern with a small hole in the top.
