Today is a very special day for me, since

this is simultaneously my first blog for

          #GREATclasses,    and   my   first   collab-

eration with the lovely Jamie! This collab

will focus on the corruption in Korea, and,

while Jamie will handle the corruption in

real life in her own part of the collab, I

will do my part of the collab on fictional

part of corruption: corruption in dramas.

Now   for   this blog I will   look into a

          dramas that incorporate corruption and

in what way they incorporate it into the

story. There are a million different ways

someone   can   be corrupt in a lot of

different job positions, and so it’s good

to see multiple examples of shows with

          positions that   are   easily corruptable.

          Let’s take a look!

Corruption has been around in dramas

as long as dramas have been around!

The story   of   the good guy secretly

          having a second agenda, threatening

our hero. Corruption is a great way for

          dramas    to    depict    conflict    within

          working space, especially in business

or law related dramas. Now for this

blog we’re going to be discussing two

types of corruption, namely that takes

place in big corporations, and those

that take place in the law.

In general,   corruption   is   a form of

         dishonesty or criminal activity under-

taken   by   a   person   or   organization

entrusted with a position of authority,

         often to acquire illicit benefit.

         Corruption may include many activities

         including    bribery   and   embezzlement,

though it may also involve practices that

are    legal    in    many    ways.    Political

         corruption occurs when an office-holder

or other governmental employee acts in

an official   capacity   for personal gain.

         Corruption   is   most   commonplace   in

         kleptocracies,   oligarchies, narco-states

         and mafia states.

         Corruption    can    occur    on    different

         scales. Corruption   ranges from small

favors   between   a   small   number   of

         people (petty corruption), to corruption

that affects the government on a large

         scale (grand corruption), and corruption

that is so prevalent that it is part of the

         everyday structure of society, including

corruption as one of the symptoms of

         organized crime.

Corruption and crime are endemic socio-

         logical   occurrences which appear with

regular frequency in virtually all countries

on a global scale in varying degree and

         proportion.    Individual     nations     each

         allocate   domestic   resources    for    the

control and regulation of corruption and

         crime. Strategies to   counter corruption

         are     often     summarized     under     the

         umbrella term anti-corruption.

When researching, I found a bunch of

interesting shows that have this exact

trope, and while corruption in business is

not as common in Korean dramas as the

other form or corruption,   this one had

plenty of show to choose from.

         Min-Ho's   (Jung Kyoung-Ho)   father   ran

large company, but his death led to his

uncle taking over the company. Because

of this,   Min-Ho grows into a cutthroat

investor. Min-Ho then undergoes a heart

          transplant surgery   and   his personality

changes.   Thanks to his new heart, he

begins to have warm feelings and he falls

in love with a woman named Soon-Jung.

Though this may seem like a romance

story, this is actually very heavily focused

on people trying to take over and or ruin

someone   else’s   business.   It’s   full   of

people trying to use money and power

and bribing   and manipulating other to

get what they want within the company,

and it’s one thrilling and corrupted ride!

Rich and uncivil people who think they

the special Squad 38. This motley special

instead of a place of hospitality by CEOs

not to light, but does get serious when it

needs to get serious. It depicts the story

between two twin brothers, one judge and

one criminal.    when    the     judge    goes

missing, the criminal takes his place and

uncovers a huge net of corruption in the

episodes.   This     show     is     all   about

corruption within the police forces and

law system of Korea and how one person

being uncovered   can easily uncover a

whole network of crime hidden within the

people that are supposed to protect us

          from those exact crimes.

It’s amazing how well they manage to

make this such a nail biter of a show,

especially with all the technical aspects
