hello!!! :-)

today I'm finally writing a blog about a different group djdjsjdjs. I'm actually writing this blog for my favourite korean band; hyukoh. they're one of my ults and their music means a lot to me. im writing this because they're soon coming back with a new album called through love and I wanted to spread more attention about it !!! I'm going to be talking about them and their career, but I'll be giving some overall appreciation on the band with every album I talk about. this blog will be about their career + appreciation all merged into one, and I'll give more information on their comeback too. let's go!

who are hyukoh?

hyukoh are a korean indie band formed in 2014. the band was originally a one man band with just oh hyuk however in 2014 the other 3 ed. they debuted with the album 20, and a fun fact is that their album names are the age at the time of release, since they're all the same age!! so who are the ?

honestly they're all slightly awkward and very shy. they have such unique personalities and they all have great chemistry because of how well their personalities compliment one another. they're known for being quite... weird and unusual, but in the bestest way possible. when they're around other people, who are outside of their friend group, they dont talk as much and are quite closed and shy. however, when they're with each other it's a completely different story. they're so funny and loud with each other and you can tell how close they are with one another and how they feel comfortable enough to be themselves :(( I love their weird unique personalities so much.

this is their first album they released. it has my favourite song on it!! wi ing wi ing :) when listening to this album, you can really tell what sound they're trying to go for. this album has a softer, indie sound and I am absolutely in love with it. wiing wiing is what got me into hyukoh so this album is super special to me, considering how in love I am with their music now.

theres one thing oh hyuk said in one of his shows that I clearly because I feel the same way too. he said (roughly) that you should listen to an album all the way through without skipping songs, because albums are there to tell a story. skipping songs on an album is like watching a movie and skipping to the good bits. you miss a chunk of the story. and honestly I've always felt that way too with specific bands and I think it's so beautiful to listen to and try to understand the story that they're trying to get across. that's one reason why I love hyukoh so much; they put so much thought into their music and so much importance is placed on every word they write. their music is truly beautiful.

this album has some iconic hyukoh tracks on it and its so :kissing_closed_eyes: :ok_hand: if you have come across hyukoh before, even if you're not fully into them but have just stumbled across them a couple of times, you may have heard the song comes and goes. that song is such a wonderful song, it's so gentle sounding and for some reason it just makes me feel all giddy and nostalgic. the song has a very great meaning too, talking about how scary growing up can be and how sometimes we just wish we could be children again.

and actually, a thing I really love about hyukoh is the underlying messages they write within their lyrics. a lot of their songs talk about youth and how beautiful yet challenging it can be, this can particularly be seen in their album 23 but it shows in 22 too. they have music that is so relaxing and calming and mood lifting to listen to, but if you also want something to relate to, then they have that too. and another interesting thing is that oh hyuk said he prefers to write in english. he said that because hes korean, he feels like he has to write perfectly if his lyrics are in korean. he doesnt feel that same pressure when he writes in english. I just think that's a super unique way to think about song writing and wanted to share that with you bdnsnaac

this is my all time favourite album by them and I honestly dont think they could ever top this album. even though everything they have released is great, this album is truly out of this world. the tracklist is absolutely flawless, I listen to this album all the way through and enjoy every second of it. some of the songs sound like your typical summer, cheerful tracks. but actually, they have some dark and meaningful messages behind them. how I said they talk about the anxieties we experience when growing up? thats shown a lot through this album, particularly with the song tomboy. my favourite lines are "I'm happy right now but I'm nervous because theres always the calm before the storm" and "sad adults only walk backwards". ahhh it's just so beautiful.

i love that hyukoh arent afraid to be honest, and they always stick to their individuality and it really shows in their music. they itted that when they started to gain popularity, they weren't sure as to whether they should stop writing what they usually would and what they enjoy, and instead start writing in a way that appeals to the general public. they were scared that their writing style doesnt appeal to most people and they believed they should change that, yet they decided against it. im so glad they did. hyukoh's songs are really genius- they have their own sound that's so distinct and individual to them, and they tell stories through their lyrics and people can relate to that. sure, they dont sound like your average group/ band out there but you can tell that what they do is authentic and genuine and I really love that about them.

how to find true love and happiness

if im honest, the title track for this album wasnt my favourite. I absolutely loved and adored the music video, but the audio wasnt my favourite. however the album overall was really wonderful and my favourite is citizen kane. i love the heavy guitar sound in this song, and that it has a more 'aggressive'/ heavier sound to it. it sounds like so much ion has been put into the song and I just absolutely love it. I also think the video to skyworld is so... strange. it's a perfect representation of the group and it really makes me laugh, as well as feel confused djsjsjs. however, although the audio to love ya isnt my favourite, the song and video overall is so beautiful. according to oh hyuk, this is actually the first song about love that hes ever written so I'm incredibly thankful there is such a beautiful video to go with it. they show a diversity of couples in the music video and it makes me so proud. the video ranges from heterosexual couples and nuclear families, to racial diversity between couples, to same sex couples.

and now I'm going to appreciate that. the song may not be my favourite hyukoh song musically, but it remains one of my favourite videos and I will be thankful for it always. as someone in the lgbtq+ community, I appreciate the representation and the acceptance that they show. I always worry that the people I care about will hate me if they found out who I am. my family are homophobic and it truly does scare me and makes me feel alien. and I worry about whether my favourite artists and my idols would accept me for who I am, or if they would disagree with lgbtq+ and essentially disagree with who I am as a person. it's scary not knowing who will accept you and who wont. so to know that hyukoh are okay with showing such diversity in their music videos makes me so proud and feel so accepted. of course I dont know what the boys are like personally, but to see such a beautiful music video really makes me feel loved and accepted.  

through love

their album is called through love and I am so excited. itll be released on the 30th January at 6pm kst. I'm really excited to see what they're going to release. all of their albums so far have really been works of art, they highlight so many issues about growing up and social pressures through their music and i think their music is something a lot of people can understand and relate to. through love sounds like it will highlight issues about love however the track list really intrigues me. they spoke about how they were preparing for a new album months ago, so theyve really put a lot of hard work and time into this album and I know they're not going to disappoint. I'm so proud to say I stan such a wonderful band with such great music. it's so clear how every member is so ionate about what they do and I love what they stand for. theyre not afraid to embrace their individuality and I think theyre perfect idols for showing that its okay to be different. embrace your individuality and uniqueness and do what you love without trying to fit in to the majority. you dont need to fit in to be successful. I just really love them a lot and I'm so excited for this new album.

also I dont know if you already know this but hyukoh are doing another world tour! they have the locations & dates released now so its worth checking that out if you havent already and would like to see them. they usually go to quite a variety of different places so they might just be coming to your city too!:^)
