Hello lovely people of AAA! I need to inform all of you about a very important widget here that you may all know about...

That's right, the public chats widget....

:bangbang: Quick PSA :bangbang: -Hello lovely people of AAA! I need to inform all of you about a very important widget here that you may all kno

Now, as it stands, there's probably 400+ public chats sitting there, and like 5 are created, AT LEAST, every day. 2/3 of these will be inactive very quickly.

This makes our job a real pain in the butt. So stop doing it. Stop creating new public chats for the same purpose that dozens already exist for. It's cluttering the system and I don't like dealing with inactive chats.

What constitutes an inactive chat, you might ask yourself? In my opinion, if no real conversation has been held within a month, it's inactive. That's a very generous opinion.

Regardless of this, 2/3 of the public chats will still be inactive anyway. So stop creating new ones. Just chat in already active ones and help me out a bit, okay?

That's all I have to say currently, thank you for listening!

Happy drawing everyone :two_hearts:

Seeing this comment section makes me question human intelligence. Kayla made a blog saying something that's common sense and people attack her for her wording, or by saying she's not doing her job properly.

First of all, she never said to stop making new chats entirely. She said that people should chats that already exist, or if you create a new chat, keep it alive. Don't just create it for no reason and leave it be. Public chats are a bigger responsibility than many people think. Oh and if your public chat dies, do everyone a favour and delete it on your own.

Secondly, leaders and curators aren't machines that spend their life moderating an amino 24/7. Yes it's a hard job, but people should respect that and help a bit instead of purposely making their work harder.

Also don't tell someone how to do his job like you're an expert on the field. Just because you're a leader or a curator of an amino doesn't mean you're a professional. It's good giving advice and suggestions POLITELY, not calling them names and telling them they suck at what they do. Everyone has their way and everyone has room for improvement. As I said earlier, they're not robots that work here, they're people.

And lastly, she just asked a simple favour, something so simple yet people complain like she asked them to clean up the whole amino. You don't have to do anything more than think before making a chat. See if chats with the same theme exist, or if you want to make a chat for other reasons, then put some effort into it. Not just create it and forget it.

People complaining about this either don't get what Kayla meant, or they're just lazy and irresponsible, believing the curators and leaders are their slaves or something. Don't make a mess out of such a simple request.

As a leader of an amino, I can't say I agree to this rule at all. Here's the thing, Public Chats are the lifeblood of any Amino. Preventing new ones from being made is as good as cutting off an arm. Apart from posting, people come here to chat and make friends.

I understand the problem of inactive chats. I know how annoying it can be. But you can't just kill half an entire feature! There are other ways to solve this issue and this is definitely not a solution. If you want Public Chats gone, do me a favour and go to ACM and disable the Public Chats function.

How about this - take some time and have your entire mod team clean up the public chats section. Disable all the chats that have been inactive for a WEEK. Not a month. A WEEK because if nothing happens after a week, theres a 99% chance it's dead. New chats that don't go past "Hi" can be disabled after 3 days since its likely they're dead too.

It's tough and it's going to take awhile but cleaning up the chats is a better fate than basically shutting this feature down. And after this, make it an official rule that dead chats with no activity after a week will be disabled.

Another thing I take issue with is the tone of the blog. It's a tad emotional and informal and highly condescending.

"This makes our job a real pain in the butt. So stop doing it. Stop creating new public chats for the same purpose that dozens already exist for. It's cluttering the system and I don't like dealing with inactive chats."

You can't just tell people to stop doing that! For as long as Amino exists, people will create chats, it's a fact.

"This makes our job a real pain in the butt......I don't like dealing with inactive chats" I hate to break it to you, but it's your job as a to help deal with these chats by disabling them since none of us normal s have mod powers. Please don't make it seem like it's your member's fault for making you do your job that you volunteered for.

Even if you didn't intend to say this, people do take your wording as you blaming them for doing something they are in complete right to do.

If you make a post like this next time, perhaps try to do it with less emotion. A more proper reasoning instead of using the argument that us s are making your life difficult and I quote "a pain in the butt" would make people less triggered.

I hope you take my advice into consideration and rethink this rule. My PM is open if you want advice or help.
