Greetings good fellow!
I’ve been writing this blog for a few months now, it turns out that double checking small details is very difficult when the only source for Norse Mythology is the Poetic and Prose Edda, however, I’ve tried to make this as accurate as possible, so if you know your Norse Mythos and see I’ve gotten something wrong, please tell me!

Now if you are into Norse Mythology like I am, you probably know what Book 2 took heavy inspiration from the Norse Myth Of Ragnarok, more specifically, when the armies of Niflheim and Muspellheim began to march towards each other to battle. Pretty self explanatory. However, book 3 has lots of small hints to different Norse Myths, so I decided to do some research on Líf and Thrasír. This is the result of that work.

Sökkvabekkr And Ífingr
Líf’s sword Sökkvabekkr shares its name with the god Loki’s son, who attempted to take over Asgard by transforming himself into a huge wolf-like beast and went rampaging through the land. However, when he crossed the path of a beautiful, young ocean jötunn by the name of Ífingr (The same name as Thrasir’s tome if you ), the girl used herself as bait to lure him to a riverbank, where she promptly dragged him to the bottom of the holy river for hundreds of years, staying by his side to ensure he would never escape and the holy waters would force the boy to maintain his original humanoid form. But as the years wore on, she grew attached to Sökkvabekkr and the two eventually fell in love, despite the whole thing of Ífingr trapping him at a riverbed for a few centuries, and she bore his child.
When Ragnarok began, Ífingr and Sökkvabekkr returned to the surface together, where Ífingr was promptly killed by Loki for releasing his son, and it turns out kids don’t like it when you murder their lovers, so Sökkvabekkr responded by taking on his giant wolf-bear form again, ate the sun, the moon and then threw his father into the fires of Muspell.

So it could be inferred that at some point, Thrasir would die (again?) and Líf could kill Loki, however, because we dint really know who Loki is at the moment, any link between the two is unknown.
Another way to look at it is that if Loki really is a god, which would make a lot of sense when you think about it, she may have been alive when Líf and Thrasír founded Askr and Embla, and, this is a bit of a theory, in exchange for the power to open the gates to other worlds, Líf and Thrasír made a deal with a god, Loki. It’s possible this plan backfired and Loki pulled the classic “equivalent exchange” thing we get from Disney villains, taking Thrasír’s life in exchange for the power, and this would take place after she had bore a child, of course, much like how Ífingr did before she was killed. This would lay the ground work for some much needed backstory of Askr and Embla, since we actually know very little about how they came about, while also giving us lots more information on Loki!

So this was just a small piece to get a look into the characters and why they could be relevant, but then again, this was entirely made up for your entertainment. It kinda hurts to lie about a Mythology I love so much. Dang.
