the tune of this song got me. i couldn't even the lyrics, yet the tune kept going on in my head, as well as sandeul's falsetto. talking about sandeul, he has a healing, powerful voice, one that's perfect for singing osts, one that holds a million stories in it, language barrier or not. the song describes the struggle of dealing with awkwardness and i can relate to it so much, which is probably one of the reasons why it is on this list. sandeul sings us a story where he's trapped in an awkward time, as he wants to take that one step left towards his love, yet his social anxiety doesn't let him. so he says that he will find the courage and approach her "someday", asking her to lead him on. such a unique concept, not just the ost, but even the drama as a whole, and sandeul's golden voice makes it just complete.

not a very known one, but one of my personal faves. it starts off with this somewhat acoustic sound, if not for the occasional pounding of bass, and you would think that it's just one more usual song with a pretty voice. but surprisingly, after a very quick build-up and a hardly discernable drop, the singer unleashes her full potential, singing with all her heart along with the slow drums and subtle strings. seriously, i love how she stresses on certain words at sentence endings, and how the drums plays along to her singing in places, rather than the opposite, stopping when she stops singing, as if made to work together like that. u sung eun's high notes had so much impact, after picking up momentum and that really made the song a distinctive one. the lyrics tell us this tale of falling in love with someone who seems to be getting further away, and hoping for their heart to reach them, while waiting in a melancholic mood.

sewoon's angelic voice, and the dreamy piano melody combine together to make this ethereal, unbelievably beautiful track. the simplicity of the instrumental puts all the focus on sewoon's vocals, emphasising on the allure of his falsetto. he sang each note with so much sentiment, flawlessly summing up the relationship of the lead couple in the drama through his lyrics, which seem so meticulously written, dripping with sweetness. "the only one who shines on my heart like that starlight in the night sky is you" has to be my favorite line, as that mere sentence fully conveyed the unreal feeling of being in love and looking at only one person. the overall song has a really soothing vibe, even when it reaches the bridge and the vocals seems to get a little more desperate and intense, until we come to the subdued high note, which i thought could have used a little more power, but this way, it had a kind of elegance that might have been lost otherwise.

probably one of the most known osts out there, yet i couldn't help but include it. punch kept this calming voice throughout and the blanketed ad-libs added such a nice effect. chanyeol's slow rapping and his light harmonisation with punch put in so much color to the song, while his deep voice gave me goosebumps. the song was composed by an indie band, rocoberry. twelve of their songs were rejected, and one of them went through seven revisions, which already proves how hard they worked for this song, and the success of "stay with me" was a complete surprise. they also said that they took inspiration from the script of the drama itself for the lyrics, which shows why the ost goes so well with the story of the drama. i loved the little transition from punch's singing to chanyeol's rapping so much, i know it wasn't anything much, but the way the instrumental stopped, then came in with the piano note and bass .2 seconds after chanyeol started rapping was fascinating.

an epic, intense roller-coaster ride throughout. the strings make this so dramatic while the striking edm add a modern touch. the song truly stands up to its title, it makes us feel "alive", with all its vibrant colors and hard drums. this song itself is so unique, mixing electronics and theatrics, along with energetic vocals and a trendy-at-the-time rap style. it kept this tension all along, keeping us on our toes and everytime this played in the drama i couldn't help but brace myself because this very heavy song just had that effect. the music here is so complex, i'm still trying to make out the instruments they used amidst the dense synths. guitars, kick drums(?), strings, piano, all contribute to make this feel like a constant build-up. i loved the part where they cut back on the electronics, and it was mostly ad-libs over a cinematic background track, before it escalated into the high note and the gorgeous last chorus, which was also filled with high notes in the back. certainly, a heck ton of efforts went into this.

seriously, i love this so much. they kinda overused it in the drama though, which surely put a damper on all the hype i felt about it when i first heard it, but here we are, two years later and it's still one of my fav osts. it leans towards rock, something we don't hear that often from monsta x. an electric guitar opens up the song before kihyun comes in, comparing himself to a broken timer switch. talking about lyrics, these were full of metaphors, so painstakingly written, and they portrayed their love story in such an explosive, no pun intended, way, which was just perfect for the instrumental. i really liked how they put trap beats during jooheon's and changkyun's verses and that surprisingly worked well with the guitar. the highlight of this was kihyun's falsetto for me, like kihyun has one of my favorite voices in kpop and his falsetto is oh so pleasant to listen to, especially the moment when he switches from head voice to chest voice. hyungwon could have gotten better parts, but in the end, i love the song and that's that.

emotional rap with soulful vocals have been a recurring theme for osts, and my fav type of ost, probably because they're the ones that always manage to get the most emotions out of me. it starts off with the sweet, ballad-esque sound, as kim nayoung sings us a beautiful, yet painful story of waiting to see her loved one. i really appreciate how they alternated between mad clown's rapping and nayoung's refrain right before the chorus. the strings add such a dramatic effect during the singing verse, then that, along with the barely audible acoustic guitar, fade out as the rapping starts, leaving mad clown to ride on the beat perfectly. i've always liked mad clown's rapping, but this kind of desperate, soul-touching rapping is the best we got from him, especially how he picks up on intensity, to reach a peak and then loses some energy, as if saying that's he's tired, fully conveying the feelings of his lyrics "you're still there even though i push you out, and now you're inside my dreams."

listening to this song always makes me feel this kind of emptiness- maybe because i loved this drama so much, it brings back all the emotions i felt while watching. it has such a hazy, dainty melody, that i can't help but get lost in its unadulterated charm. basick has been among my top rappers, needless to say, he outdid his part here too. his verses were so clean, easy on the ears, over the piano, while inkii and her distinctive voice helped create this extremely emotional atmosphere. onto the lyrics, this song would probably be the one with the best lyrics in my book. it's filled with metaphors from beginning to end, yet it's not that complicated to understand. each line has its own meaningful significance and it seems as if they were written by lyrical geniuses. the kdrama itself has a pretty complex story, one that you have to really dive into with your full attention, and the same goes for this song, making it a perfect fit.

i hadn't watched the drama before i heard the song, mostly because there was not a romance tag on it, even though i love lee joongi. i actually found this song because of flowsik, and eventually, it is what made me watch the drama. the way it started with the flute-like melody and bubbling bass, along with flowsik's breath-taking rapping and uniquely deep voice had me trapped in its beauty. minkyun's vocals then kicked in and davichi being the queens of osts, i did not expect anything less from her. the drums started building up, as the singing got more ionate, only to go back to its previous pace after the 'fake' drop. i absolutely loved the way she draws out the "plane's", and also how the rapping came in right after, then bringing back the melody which we heard in the start along with flowsik's little "ay ay ay's". it ended on such an epic note, the last chorus being a rich overlay of minkyun's silvery vocals and flowsik's repeated verse. their voices intertwined together so smoothly, as the drums in the back made up this very fitting beat, giving me the chills to the end.

my all time favorite kdrama, of course it contains my all time favorite ost. this is just... a complete masterpiece, i don't even know how to describe it. scars and healing, this song provides it all. jang jaein has this unique tone, one that makes this track so distinct. the piano melody here is one of the most heart-wrenching ones i've ever heard. i don't know how just instruments can make me feel this many emotions, but the piano here surely does, while the more subtle, acoustic guitar adds to the desperation that is conveyed in the rapping. nashow rapped like his life depended on it, sheer fierceness and tight flow making it difficult to concentrate on anything else. the lyrics aren't any brighter either, they talk about wanting to escape from their pain, to find their memories and their true self, and there couldn't be more suitable lyrics for the story in the drama, yet they make it all more saddening, i can't count the amount of times i teared up because of this.
