Aryll awoke on Christmas morning with a smile on her face. Today was Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year. The time where she got presents and ate delicious food that Grandma made. She went outside. Due to climate change, there was snow on Outset Island this year. It was quite cold, but not cold enough to freeze the ocean. She went by and picked some holly growing underneath the porch.

"Merry Christmas!" She said to everyone she ed, giving them some holly. She got many warm greetings in return. She climbed to her hideout to taste the cold, salty air. There were no seagulls though, because it was cold and they had all gone to Windfall Island for the time being. She used her telescope and scoped out the sea in hopes of seeing a small boat, but she didn't. She shrugged. Perhaps it just wasn't the time yet.

When she arrived back home, Grandma had prepared a wonderful and delicious breakfast. Aryll ate it so fast that she got the hiccups. Looking out her window, she heard carolers caroling some classic Christmas tunes, such as "We Three Gods" and "12 Days of Christmas"

"We three gods of orient are

Bearing pearls we traverse afar

Hyrule Fieeeeld

Deaaaath Mountain

Following yonder fate

Ohhh, star of wonder, star of night

Star with royal beauty bright

Westward leading, still proceeding

Guide us to our Triforce light"

"On the twelfth day of Christmas, my princess gave to me:

Twelve important songs

Eleven moblins fighting

Ten bosses lurking

Nine temples waiting

Eight Triforce shards

Seven years of sleeping

Six sage medallions

Five golden skulltulas!!!

Four empty bottles

Three kinds of arrows

Two awakened sages

And a princess as a pirate!"

Aryll enjoyed the carolers. They sounded lovely every year.

But finally, after all morning of waiting, it was time to open presents. There were dozens of presents under the tree.

One of her presents was a new shiny telescope to replace the one that Link had borrowed and never returned. She also got some bird watching items along with a flute to play music with. She loved all of her presents. She hugged Grandma and said thank you. But something still didn't seem right about this day...something was missing...

"Grandma...why isn't big brother home for Christmas? Did he forget ?" Aryll asked with tears in her eyes.

"Aryll my dear...your brother is a busy boy. He maybe just didn't have time today like we thought he would. We were all expecting him" Grandma replied.

Aryll began to cry softly as she walked up and sat by the windowsill, staring blankly to the ocean. The cold air and her warm breath made fog on the window. She drew a picture of her and Link holding hands with seagulls flying around them. That's how she pictured Christmas. She pictured it with her brother, the one she truly looked up to. She hadn't seem him in months. He could never forget Christmas, could he...? She imagined them playing together in the snow, making show angels. She pictured them using telescopes to spot goofy things in the forest from afar. She pictured herself running over and hugging him as he hopped off his boat for the first time in months and setting his feet on his home island.

"I promise I'll see you on the holidays, Aryll. I'll do whatever it takes"

He had said.

But for some reason...Aryll didn't see that happening. She waited all of Christmas Eve and all of Christmas morning. She wanted to wait for him before opening presents so they could do it together, but now the only presents under the tree are the ones Link didn't open. She cried into her dress as she thought of her big brother and how much she missed him.

Aryll decided to draw another picture, a picture of Link on the ocean. She began to draw the waves and the clouds. She was about to draw the boat, but then she saw what looked like a real boat in the background. Could this be?!

She ran outside and saw her big brother sailing on the King of Red Lions. As he hopped off, he hugged her tightly. Aryll began to cry even more, but this time it was tears of joy. Grandma came and gave them all a huge hug as well, happy to see her grandson once more.

"I'm home, Aryll. Just like I had promised months ago"

Okay so tbh this was inspired by my own experience- my older sister is in the marines and she found out a month ago she couldn't come home for Christmas and she couldn't come home until the 27th. She was rly heartbroken as well as everyone else at home. Well apparently yesterday she found out she could come home today on Christmas Eve and she didn't tell anyone and she came home today and surprised us and I legit cried my eyes out I was so happy :sob: honestly one of the best gifts ever

Also P.S. I legit thought of all the Christmas song lyrics myself :joy: :joy: :joy: Merry Christmas Zelda Amino!!
