hihi!
so i’m kind of in a bit of a dilemma.
i applied for 6 colleges, 3 of which are ones i wanna go to and 3 that were more of smth i could fall back on. as of now (12.09.20), i got accepted into 4 of them (one being in my priority list (depaul)) and i’m currently waiting for 2 more (iit and uiuc) which are both on my priority list.
since there might be a chance that i wouldn’t get good scholarships from iit and uiuc bc of my gpa being on the lower scale (4.085 weighted, idk what it is unweighted), i decided to accept ission into depaul.
on the plus sides, it’s only an hr away from my house and i was given a scholarship of 23k per yr as long as i keep a good gpa. on the bad side, my dad is kind of going against my decision. he really wants me to go to uiuc, but i doubt that i’ll get any good scholarships there plus i could be in far greater debt than if i were to attend depaul; he also wants me to immediately switch to attending uiuc if i get accepted, and i’m not sure how that’ll turn out considering that i already accepted ission into depaul and i’ve already paid tuition + submitted a few required forms.
my dad also wants me to attend the honors program in depaul just to get the money. i told him that getting into the honors program will require me to take on a leadership role and to attend community services, which is smth i’m very inexperienced in to borderline incapable of doing bc of my anxiety. it also requires me to take more difficult courses, and i’m not too sure if i could handle them since i’d also need to balance heavy schoolwork with other things i do outside of school, which is smth i still need to improve on. and despite me telling him this, he got mad and said to sign up anyways just to get the scholarships.
i’m just not too sure what to do now. my dad isn’t really listening to me and i’m at a bit of a roadblock
apologies for the long bg context / rant,, i’m still new to all this college preparation stuff and i don’t really know how to handle it. thank you for reading and hope you all stay hydrated and have a good day/night!

You are doing great. Do not listen to him. Listen to some music or do something to keep yourself busy when he says that.
I personally would not listen to them don't do something that will make things harder for you, because it might seem "better" to them but you start doing that and that scholarship gets taken away none other then you'll be in more debt, but it would really show to potential jobs.
I would say at least consider Urbana whenever they get back to you. Assuming you live in Illinois, the average cost of going to Urbana is like half of what it would cost to go to Depaul. I don't know what you want to study, but typically Urbana's programs are ranked a decent to good amount higher than Depaul's if that matters to you. The networking and job opportunities would also be a little better at Urbana.
There are plenty of valid reasons why you'd pick Depaul over Urbana, I just don't think you should write off Urbana right away over cost without seeing what they offer.
I'm not sure how a refund would work for whatever amount you did pay should you choose to go somewhere else, but I would imagine you'd just be out of the deposit amount (like $500) and not everything else.
I don't want to push you in any direction or anything, I just wanted to point out the different options you have. I can understand where your dad is coming from, but ultimately it's up to you to decide where you go and what you want to do. Feel free though to message me if you need someone to talk it through with you or if you just want to let your thoughts out :)
